Schroeder's appointment to Gazprom's board would give Europe a resource for influencing the company

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin saw a benefit for Europe in former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's nomination to the board of Russian Gazprom (MCX:GAZP), which he said could gain direct access to information about the gas giant's operations and influence decisions.

Schroeder, who is also chairman of the shareholder committee of Nord Stream, the pipeline operator, has been nominated to Gazprom's board of directors, which will be elected at the annual meeting on 30 June.

Europe blames Gazprom for holding back gas supplies to its market and high spot prices for the fuel, but has been slow to launch the new Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Gazprom, for its part, attributes the decline in exports to Western Europe to a lack of gas purchase requests and calls the new pipeline a purely commercial project, beneficial to Russia and the European Union.

"Today, a lot of people in Europe are very concerned about whether there will be regular supplies of Russian energy resources to Europe in general, and to Germany in particular. And I think if such a decision is made that Mr. Schroeder may be a member of Gazprom's board of directors, then, just for the purpose of control, including by an independent expert, which in this sense is Mr. Schroeder, a man of integrity, whom we respect, and who, above all, sets the task of implementing the interests of his own country", Putin said at a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

"The FRG, the Europeans will have a person who can both influence the decisions taken as a member of the board of directors and certainly receive unbiased information from there, directly from Gazprom. I think that will only benefit our cooperation, and we can only be happy about it," he added.

Putin reminded that thanks to Schroeder, who supported the first Baltic Sea pipeline to Germany, Nord Stream, Germany now gets gas five times cheaper than on the spot market.

Putin added that the new pipeline to Germany, Nord Stream 2, has been ready for commercial operation since last December and everything depends only on the German regulator to decide whether to start supplying through this route.

USDRUB is back in the stall and continues to move to its rightful place in the corridor.

The finicky horses have been restrained, (that would be a Vysotsky song), I beg you not to gallop away.

On radio BUSINESS FM

there is talk that the market has probably come to its local highs, that the market may yet see pressure from a likely rate hike and the market's puppyish optimism will change.

p.s.

well, probably now it is logical to fix the positions or at least part of the positions

Balance. Against that backdrop, the rest is not so important. :)

Biden is handsome!

I love that old man, falling down the gangways either from old age or dementia.

I think we should send him a birthday card with a wish to talk more rubbish.

I really love him, he's so cute :)

If he were my grandfather - I would ask him one question before a public speaking, grandpa say in SELL or BUY ?
