One Chart, Whole-Account Protection: A Practical Guide to Our Free Account Protector

Most trading accounts don't die from one bad trade. They die from one bad day. A stop-loss protects a position; almost nothing protects the account. Aegis Account Protector is our free utility that adds that missing layer: attach it to one chart and it watches the whole account — every EA, every signal, every manual trade.

What it actually does
Aegis never opens trades. It only watches your equity, margin and daily P/L, and steps in when a rule you set is breached:
- Equity trailing stop — close everything if equity falls a set % below its running peak. This is the one most people are missing: it locks in open profit instead of watching it evaporate.
- Maximum total drawdown — close everything if equity drops a set % below your peak balance.
- Daily loss limit — halt for the rest of the day (optionally closing open positions) once today's loss hits your limit.
- Margin-level emergency — close all before a stop-out, at a margin level you choose.
- Daily profit target, consecutive-loss pause, weekend flat, and a news pause.
Hard stops vs daily stops — the design decision that matters
Hard stops (equity trail, max drawdown, margin) fire once and stay HALTED until you press RESET. A breached account should not quietly re-arm itself and keep trading — you have to look at it and make a decision. Daily stops (daily loss, profit target, losing streak, weekend) clear automatically on the next trading day. While halted, Aegis can keep the account flat by closing anything that re-appears.
Three setups we actually use
1. Prop-firm challenge: daily loss limit 4% (close positions ON), max total drawdown 8%. Most challenges are lost to exactly these two numbers — automating them removes the human failure mode.
2. EA portfolio on a VPS: equity trailing stop 10-15%, margin emergency 150%. Whatever the EAs do, the account keeps at least ~85-90% of its peak equity.
3. Night scalper watchdog: daily loss 3%, consecutive losses 4. If the market regime breaks the strategy, the damage is capped at one bad night.
Setup in one minute
Attach to any single chart (the chart symbol doesn't matter when "protect all symbols" is on), enable AutoTrading, set your limits, done. The on-chart panel shows the armed guards, equity drawdown, day P/L and floating P/L at a glance, plus PANIC (close everything now) and RESET buttons. Scope can be narrowed to one symbol or one magic number if you only want to guard a single strategy.
What it cannot do
It acts on the prices your terminal receives. It cannot prevent slippage, weekend gaps, or a broker outage — no software can. It reduces the tail, it doesn't delete it.
The tool is completely free — no locked features, no registration. If it helps your trading, a short review on the product page genuinely helps us and keeps tools like this free.
