Designed to set the trailing stop function for orders.

Trailing stop is a function that automatically moves the stop loss of an order following the price. The stop loss moves towards profit and stops if the price reverses. It is used when a trader cannot control an open deal all the time, but wants to take the maximum from the trend movement.

  1. Button to go to the Trailing Stop panel.
  2. Enable/Disable Trailing Stop.
  3. Trailing stop settings.
  4. Setting the start of the trailing stop function.
  5. Apply settings only for orders that will be opened on the current symbol. This checkbox is only available in the Multicurrency mode.
  6. Apply trailing stop settings to orders opened on the current symbol.
  7. Load the Trailing Stop template.
  8. Save the Trailing Stop template.
  9. Distance for start trailing stop in points. Enter the distance from the order opening price to the trailing stop start level in the field. At the same time, if the points are entered with a minus sign, then the start level will be postponed towards the loss.
  10. Measure from stop loss:
    • Disabled - the trailing stop function will start moving the stop loss when the current price reaches the start level.
    • Enabled - the trailing stop function will start moving the stop loss when the calculated price of the trailing stop reaches the start level. That is, the stop loss will start its movement from the start level.

How to set a trailing stop

Trade Panel saves and applies trailing stop settings for each order separately, which allows you to:

  • Set different trailing stop types for orders at the same time.
  • Enable trailing stop only for some orders.
  • Edit the trailing stop of an individual order without affecting the trailing stop settings of other orders.

Set/editing a trailing stop for a new order

Before opening an order, go to the Trailing Stop panel and set the trailing stop function. This trailing stop will be applied to every new order.

Set/editing a trailing stop for existing orders opened on the current symbol

Go to the Trailing Stop panel, set the trailing stop function, and click the "Apply to open orders XXXXXX" button. When you click on the button, this trailing stop will be applied to already open orders on the current symbol.

Set/editing a trailing stop for an open order

Go to the Order Management panel on the Tr tab and set the trailing stop function. This trailing stop will be applied to the current order.

Multicurrency mode

The trading panel can work with all symbols and orders from one chart, this is ensured by switching symbols using the "Chart Control" panel.

For convenient work in this mode, the panel provides the ability to save trailing stop settings for each symbol separately.

When the Multicurrency mode is enabled, an additional checkbox "only for XXXXXX" will appear on the panel. Use this checkbox if you want to apply the current trailing stop setting only to orders that will be opened on the current symbol.

Trailing stop types

The panel supports 5 types of trailing stops.

Trailing Stop Standard

Classic trailing stop. Stop loss follows the market price with a given distance.

  1. Distance from the current price to the stop loss, with this distance the stop loss will follow the price.
  2. The minimum step of the trailing stop.

Trailing Stop Fractal

Stop loss moves along the tops of the fractals, the size of the fractal is set in the settings.

A fractal is a pattern consisting of three or more candles (bars), where the central candle is the maximum or minimum in this pattern.

  1. Chart timeframe for fractal search.
  2. The number of bars in the fractal.
  3. Stop loss offset from the fractal.
  4. The minimum step of the trailing stop.
  5. Symbol spread size. *

Trailing Stop MA

Stop Loss moves along the line of the Moving Average indicator.

  1. Timeframe of the Moving Average indicator.
  2. Period of the Moving Average indicator.
  3. Averaging method of the Moving Average indicator.
  4. The used price of the Moving Average indicator.
  5. Bar number for calculating a trailing stop based on Moving Average (bars are numbered starting from zero and directed from right to left).
  6. Stop loss offset from the indicator line.
  7. The minimum step of the trailing stop.
  8. Symbol spread size. *

Trailing Stop Parabolic Sar

The stop loss is moved by the Parabolic SAR indicator.

  1. Timeframe of the Parabolic SAR indicator.
  2. Step of price change of the Parabolic SAR indicator.
  3. The maximum step of the Parabolic SAR indicator.
  4. Bar number for calculating the trailing stop based on Parabolic SAR (bars are numbered starting from zero and directed from right to left).
  5. Stop loss offset from the indicator line.
  6. The minimum step of the trailing stop.
  7. Symbol spread size. *

Trailing Stop Candle Wicks

The stop loss is moved along the lows of the candles for buy orders and the highs of the candles for sell orders.

  1. Chart timeframe for searching for candles (bars).
  2. The number of candles from which the utility will choose the minimum or maximum value for setting a stop loss.
  3. Stop loss offset from the candle.
  4. The minimum step of the trailing stop.
  5. Symbol spread size. *

Trailing Stop Trend Scanner

Stop loss moves along the Trend Scanner indicator line. **

  1. Timeframe of the Trend Scanner indicator.
  2. The period of the Trend Scanner indicator.
  3. Trend Scanner indicator coefficient.
  4. Bar number for calculating a trailing stop using the Trend Scanner indicator (bars are numbered starting from zero and directed from right to left).
  5. Stop loss offset from the indicator line.
  6. The minimum step of the trailing stop.
  7. Symbol spread size. *
  8. Move stop loss only towards profit:
    • If enabled, the stop loss will only move in the direction of decreasing the loss.
    • If disabled, the stop loss will follow the Trend Scanner line, both in the direction of decreasing and in the direction of increasing the loss. In the off state, this parameter is applied only when Bar shift = 0, while it should be borne in mind that the number of position modifications will increase.

"Step" parameter

Stop loss repositioning step by trailing stop - the minimum distance from the current stop loss price to the next stop loss price (in points).

"Shift in bars" parameter

Number of the bar whose data will be used to calculate the stop loss level (numbering of bars starts from zero and is directed from right to left, that is, backwards relative to the current bar).

"Indent" parameter

Stop loss offset from the calculated price of the trailing stop (in points).

"Start in points" parameter

Distance from the order opening price to the Start level of the function. The trailing stop will start working when the current price reaches the Start level of the function. If you enter a value with a minus sign in the field, then the start level will be postponed towards the loss (it only makes sense if the order is already open and the current price is in the loss zone, further than the start level).

Checkbox "Measure from stop loss"

Sets conditions for enabling Trailing Stop:

  • Disabled - trailing stop will be activated when the current price reaches the start level.
  • Enabled - the trailing stop will be activated when the settlement price of the trailing stop reaches the start level. That is, the stop loss will start moving from the start level.

* In the trailing stop by indicator calculation, a chart is used, which is plotted at the Bid price. Since Sell is closed at the Ask price, you can specify the spread size so that the function indents by the spread size from the calculated stop loss level for Sell orders.
If you do not understand what this parameter is for, then set it to 0.
** Attention! The trading panel does not display indicator lines. This indicator is a separate product and is not part of the TradePanel product. If you purchased TradePanel, you can get Trend Scanner for free. Write to us in a personal message and we will tell you how to get Trend Scanner for free.
Attention!
The "Trailing stop" function is performed by the panel. This feature will only work if your terminal and panel are turned on. If you turn off the terminal or panel, this function will also be disabled (will not work).
