Pentas

Pentas is an Expert Advisor (EA) that watches five order-flow style patterns on XAUUSD M5. It enters only when several patterns point in the same direction within one hour.

The five patterns (weights in brackets)

  • Absorption (30): heavy volume with little price progress after a push.
  • Divergence (25): a new high or low that the intraday cumulative delta (estimated buying volume minus selling volume) does not confirm.
  • Initiative (20): a strong-bodied bar with above-average volume and delta.
  • Value area touch (20): a rejection at the previous day's value area low or high.
  • Exhaustion (15): three bars in the same direction with declining volume.

The EA estimates delta and volume from MetaTrader tick volume. It does not use exchange order-book or footprint data.

Entry and exit

  • A trade opens when the combined weight in one direction reaches 60 within 12 M5 bars. This usually means 3 of the 5 patterns agree.
  • Trades only between 13:00 and 21:00 GMT. One position at a time.
  • The stop loss (SL) is placed beyond the pattern extreme and kept between 0.3 and 3 times the M15 Average True Range (ATR). The take profit (TP) is 3 times the SL distance.
  • Positions still open after 120 hours are closed. An optional break-even stop is available.
  • No grid, no martingale, no averaging down. An optional news filter pauses new entries around US FOMC rate decisions, Consumer Price Index (CPI) releases and Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) releases (off by default).

Recommended

  • Symbol and timeframe: XAUUSD M5 on a broker with low Gold spreads. Attach the EA to one XAUUSD M5 chart. The EA also reads M15 internally.
  • Account: hedging recommended.
  • Minimum deposit: 1,000 USD with a fixed 0.01 lot. For 0.5% risk per trade, 10,000 USD or more is recommended.
  • Set "Broker GMT offset" and "Broker daylight saving rule" to match your broker's server time.

Backtest (MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, Every tick based on real ticks, XAUUSD)

  • Period: 2024.01.01 - 2026.10.01. Initial deposit 1,000,000 JPY, leverage 1:1000.
  • Settings: risk 0.5% per trade (fixed lot set to 0). All other inputs at default.
  • 302 trades, profit factor 1.44, net profit +51%, win rate 33.4%, maximum balance drawdown 8%, maximum equity drawdown 8%.
  • The screenshots show the Strategy Tester report and balance curve of this test.
