Volume Analysis | Order Flow | Price Impact | Market Response
TapeResilience is a market activity analysis indicator for MetaTrader 5, designed to help traders study the relationship between trading volume, directional pressure, price impact, and subsequent market reactions.
Instead of relying on traditional Buy/Sell signals alone, TapeResilience evaluates unusual market activity and observes how prices respond after significant directional movements.
The indicator combines volume activity analysis, directional imbalance, price impact measurement, and post-event confirmation into a structured chart-based system.
KEY FEATURES
-
Volume Activity Detection: Identify unusual volume activity compared with historical averages.
-
Directional Pressure Analysis: Evaluate buying or selling pressure when suitable market data is available.
-
Price Impact Measurement: Examine how much price moves relative to detected directional activity.
-
Market Response Classification: Identify Accepted, Rejected, and Stalled price responses.
-
Visual Activity Markers: Display color-coded volume activity dots directly on the chart.
-
Event Ribbons: Highlight completed market events and their confirmation periods.
-
Information Dashboard: Monitor the active data source, market activity, and latest detected event.
-
Custom Alerts: Optional popup and mobile notifications for newly confirmed events.
-
Customizable Parameters: Adjust activity thresholds, directional imbalance requirements, and confirmation periods.
HOW TO USE
Step 1 — Install the Indicator
-
Open MetaTrader 5.
-
Go to File → Open Data Folder.
-
Open the MQL5/Indicators folder.
-
Copy the indicator file into this folder.
-
If using the MQ5 source file, open it in MetaEditor and compile it.
-
Refresh the Navigator and attach TapeResilience to your preferred chart.
Step 2 — Understand Volume Activity Colors
The indicator displays small colored dots beneath completed candles.
-
Gray Dot: Volume activity is below its historical average.
-
Blue Dot: Volume activity is at or above average.
-
Gold Dot: Volume activity exceeds the configured surge threshold.
These dots represent relative volume activity, not direct trading entry signals.
Step 3 — Understand Market Response Signals
TapeResilience evaluates the subsequent price response after a qualifying directional event.
-
Green Arrow — Accepted Up: Upward pressure followed by positive price continuation.
-
Red Arrow — Accepted Down: Downward pressure followed by negative price continuation.
-
Orange Arrow — Rejected Buy: Initial upward pressure followed by a bearish price response.
-
Light Blue Arrow — Rejected Sell: Initial downward pressure followed by a bullish price response.
-
Stalled: The price response remains below the configured confirmation threshold. This state is recorded without a directional arrow.
Signals are assigned to the confirmation candle after the observation period is completed.
Step 4 — Choose the Data Source
TapeResilience supports four analysis modes:
-
SOURCE_AUTO: Automatically selects available data, with fallback to bar-volume analysis.
-
SOURCE_TRADES: Uses exchange trade ticks with valid directional Buy/Sell flags.
-
SOURCE_QUOTES: Analyzes directional Bid/Ask quote changes.
-
SOURCE_BARS: Uses OHLC price information and available bar volume as a proxy.
For Forex and XAUUSD symbols without suitable exchange trade data, the indicator may use quote activity or bar-volume analysis.
Important: Quote-based and candle-based analysis cannot establish actual aggressive order flow or confirm genuine institutional absorption.
Step 5 — Adjust the Main Settings
| Parameter | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Activity Surge | 1.60 | Required activity relative to the historical baseline |
| Directionality | 0.62 | Minimum directional imbalance |
| Baseline Bars | 12 | Previous candles used for event activity comparison |
| Response Bars | 3 | Completed candles required to evaluate the subsequent response |
| Volume Baseline | 20 | Historical candles used to color volume activity dots |
| History Events Bars | 120 | Historical range used for event analysis |
| Show Activity Dots | true | Display volume activity markers |
| Show Ribbons | true | Display completed event periods |
| Show Panel | true | Display the information dashboard |
Step 6 — Enable Alerts
Open the indicator settings and enable:
-
Popup Alerts: Display notifications when qualifying responses are confirmed.
-
Push Alerts: Send notifications to a configured MetaTrader mobile application.
Historical events loaded when the indicator starts do not trigger alerts.
TRADING APPLICATIONS
TapeResilience can support several analytical workflows:
1. Directional Continuation
Study whether unusually strong directional activity is followed by continued price movement.
2. Potential Absorption and Rejection
Observe situations where strong directional activity produces limited immediate price impact, followed by an opposing price response.
3. Market Activity Monitoring
Use relative volume dots to identify periods of increased market participation and evaluate the surrounding price structure.
4. Historical Event Review
Compare previously detected events and their subsequent reactions to develop and test trading hypotheses.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
TapeResilience is a technical analysis tool, not an automated trading system.
Confirmed response markers are based on completed candles. Historical event ribbons illustrate completed events and should not be interpreted as information that was available before confirmation.
The indicator does not guarantee future price direction, trading profitability, or the identification of actual institutional orders.
Data quality and signal availability depend on the symbol, broker, trading session, and available tick history. Always test the indicator with your preferred market and timeframe before making live trading decisions.
