Ninja Trinity XAU: Three Independent Strategies for XAUUSD M5 - Developer Note
Hello traders,
In this post, I would like to share a developer note about the thinking behind Ninja Trinity XAU and the direction of its latest version.
Ninja Trinity XAU is an Expert Advisor for XAUUSD / GOLD on the M5 timeframe.
The product name comes from the original idea of combining multiple independent trading concepts instead of relying on one single entry style.
Over time, however, the EA has evolved beyond its early structure.
The latest development baseline is now version 1.39 (RC3.9), and this version reflects a more practical approach to recent gold-market behavior.
Why I Updated the Structure
Gold does not move in one consistent way.
There are periods when long-side momentum works well, and there are also periods when short-side opportunities become more important. In addition, volatility, spread conditions, and market timing can strongly affect performance on XAUUSD M5.
For this reason, the latest version was updated with several practical improvements.
The main development points include:
- Automatic long/short risk allocation based on the daily bullish or bearish regime
- Addition of an independent short strategy for bearish market conditions
- Activation of short strategies J, K, L, M and N
- Suspension of underperforming strategies G, H and I
- Portfolio protection linked to equity drawdown
- Stronger volatility, time-of-day and spread filters
- Additional checks for market-closure conditions, margin availability, lot normalization and minimum SL/TP distance
From a developer’s point of view, these changes were not made just to increase profit in a backtest.
The purpose was to improve how the EA reacts to different market environments, especially when gold enters stronger downside conditions or unstable short-term volatility.
Practical Point
One important lesson in EA development is that a strategy should not be judged only by total net profit.
When I evaluate an XAUUSD system, I also look at:
- Profit factor
- Maximum drawdown
- Number of trades
- Long/short balance
- Recent market performance
- Whether the short side is contributing consistently
- Whether execution safety checks are functioning correctly
- Whether risk concentration becomes too high during difficult periods
In the latest Ninja Trinity XAU baseline, short-side performance became a more important development target.
The reason is simple: gold does not always reward long bias.
If the EA cannot respond properly to bearish conditions, the overall system becomes less robust.
That is why the latest version includes stronger short-side participation and daily regime-based risk adjustment.
What Traders Should Check
If you test Ninja Trinity XAU, I recommend checking the following points carefully in MT5:
- Use the correct XAUUSD / GOLD symbol from your broker
- Use the M5 timeframe
- Confirm spread and commission conditions
- Confirm leverage and free margin
- Check the broker’s contract specifications
- Review the total trade count, not only the final profit
- Check long and short performance separately
- Check whether recent short-side results are contributing meaningfully
- Review maximum balance drawdown and equity drawdown
- Check whether the EA behavior changes significantly under different broker conditions
- Run a demo forward test before considering live use
If you are updating from an older version, there are also practical points to remember:
- Do not run the old EA and the new version at the same time
- Update only when there are no old open positions
- Do not use old SET files with the new version
- Test the new version with its own current default settings
These steps are important because the latest version includes structural changes in both logic and risk handling.
Current Development Baseline
The current development baseline for Ninja Trinity XAU is:
- Product name: Ninja Trinity XAU
- File name: NinjaTrinityXAU.ex5
- Planned public version: 1.39
- Development baseline: RC3.9
- Target market: XAUUSD / M5
In internal testing, this version showed stronger short-side contribution and slightly improved drawdown behavior compared with the previous RC3.7 benchmark.
This does not guarantee future performance, but it gives a clearer direction for continued development and forward observation.
A dedicated demo forward test is also being started with:
- 10,000 USD
- 1:100 leverage
- Standard broker XAUUSD symbol
- Default settings
For me as a developer, forward testing is essential.
A strong historical result is useful, but it is not enough by itself.
Closing Note
As a developer, my goal is not to create an EA that only looks impressive in one selected backtest.
My goal is to build a system that can be tested more realistically, understood more clearly, and managed more safely across changing market conditions.
Ninja Trinity XAU continues to evolve in that direction.
The free demo is available on the MQL5 Market page. Please test with your own broker conditions before any live use.
Risk Notice
Backtest results do not guarantee future performance.
XAUUSD is highly volatile and can cause rapid financial losses.
Live results may differ because of spreads, slippage, execution speed, broker server time, symbol specifications, historical data and changing market conditions.
Always use appropriate risk management and trade only with funds you can afford to lose.
