Discussion - page 89

Just one example.

In total leaders post for this week we see for EURUSD:

1. TrendEnvelopeExpert_v2.2 with 1176 pips (08.07)

....

9. TrendStrengthExpert_v2 with 622 pips (09.07)

....

08.07 is forward testing since August 2007 (08.2007).

09.07 is forward testing since September 2007 (09.2007).

Just for information.

So, according to this pipsing calculation, TrendEnvelopeExpert_v2.2 is on place #1 for EURUSD and TrendStrengthExpert_v2 is on place #9.

But looking on excel file (MTF_or_martingale excel file inside excel.rar archive updating weekly) we can see that TrendStrengthExpert_v2 is more reliable.

Just only look at the statements (total_pips_eurusd file and total_dollars_eurusd file):

DD (drawdown) for TrendStrengthExpert_v2 (place #9 in this week total leaders pipsing calculation):

- about 200 in pips or about 200 dollars using 0.1 lot size.

DD for TrendEnvelopeExpert_v2.2 (place #1 in this week total leaders pipsing calculation):

- about 1,000 in pips or about 1,000 dollars using 0.1 lot size.

1,000 dollars DD for 0.1 lot size is not small anyway. May be good for 0.01 lot size (to have about 100 dollars DD) but not for 0.1 lot size exactly. But using 0.01 lot size with this EA so we will receive 105 dollars [profit instead of 1,000 dollars profit using 0.1 lot size ...But this EA is having place #1 in pipsing calculation ...

We just compared those 2 EA only and EA on place #9 is more good than EA on place #1 for EURUSD (having less DD and can be used with 0.1 lot size).

But it is also necessary to look about how often EA is trading. Besides, past good performance is not guarantee of future good performance: just look at example with SBS and TPE EAs - those EA is performing very good for a year, then bad for half a year, then very good once again for some months now ...

And also look at the settings of the EAs.

In our example with TrendStrengthExpert_v2 EA and TrendEnvelopeExpert_v2.2: I did not change the settings since August/September 2007. I just attached EAs to the chart and never changed the settings. But if you will use some EA with real money trading so you definitely will change the settings at least once in a year or once in a half a year depends on the system and timeframe ...

So, top pipsing performance may not be top money performance.

It was just an example with 2 EAs for EURUSD.

Well.

Let's say that we finish some analysis and now we want to find this EA and settings and some more explanation.

And we go to EAs links thread https://www.mql5.com/en/forum/176044 to find EAs, settings and the thread to read.

Next thing to look is the following:

how EA was coded.

I am not a coder so if I will do mistake in explanation - sorry. But if I look inside the code of our 2 EAs (and reading this thread https://www.mql5.com/en/forum/174793 and this post https://www.mql5.com/en/forum/174793/page2 ) we can understand the following:

- TrendEnvelopeExpert_v2.2 EA (place #1 in pipsing calculation) is trading on M15 timeframe and using M15 and H1 timeframe. Thus. this EA is MTF EA. And as we know, almost all MTF EAs are having big DD and generating many pips if in profit. Means: very profitable with big DD for some period of time.

- TrendStrengthExpert_v2 (place #9 in pipsing calculation) is trading on H1 timeframe and using this H1 timeframe only. So, it is normal EA. It is not MTF. That is why this EA from the place #9 is having small DD. And that is why MTF EA from place #1 is more profitable in pips but having big DD.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate you taking time with this.

I realize that past-performance does not mean good future-performance. However, it is good to have a point of comparison. Thanks for this as well.

I realized that by alerting the money management that the end results can be quite different. It is difficult to find the middleground between performance and DD, but that's what I'm looking for.

I'm not out to be rich overnight, just to build a good nestegg over time.

Thanks again.

I will try to give some explanation about every EA I am testing. Besides there are more EAs created for elite section than I am testing.
