Gold Breakout Straddle v2: 6 Weeks Live on IC Markets, Full Results and Launch Price

Gold doesn't move in a straight line. It ranges for hours, sometimes days, and then breaks out hard. Gold Breakout Straddle is built for that moment. It places a Buy Stop above market structure and a Sell Stop below it, and lets the market choose the direction.

This post covers four things:

  • the live signal as it stands today
  • what the numbers really mean, including the less comfortable parts
  • what changed in version 2.0
  • the current launch price, before it goes up

Reading the Numbers Honestly

I would rather you understand these results than just be impressed by them. Here is what sits behind the table.

The account is small. This signal runs a real account of about $100. On a balance that small, a single stop-out is a big percentage.

  • The 36% balance drawdown was recorded when the balance was around $54. The dip was about $19.
  • Equity never fell more than 5.44%.
  • Deposit load never went above 12.42%.
  • If you use risk-percent sizing matched to your balance, your percentages will look very different.

It wins small and often. The average win is $3.57 and the average loss is $7.27. That works because the win rate is high and every loss is capped by a hard stop. This is exactly why version 2.0 focused on making sure a loss can never grow bigger than planned.

Results come in bursts. MQL5's statistics show most of the growth came from one strong session. That is normal for breakout trading: gold ranges quietly for days, then moves hard in a few hours. It also means you should judge this EA over months, not days.

No directional bias. The account has 18 long trades and 16 short trades. The EA simply takes whichever side breaks.

How the Strategy Works

  1. The EA finds the most recent confirmed swing high and swing low on H1.
  2. It places a Buy Stop above the swing high and a Sell Stop below the swing low.
  3. When price breaks one side, that order fills with a hard Stop Loss attached.
  4. The trade is managed by trailing stop, break-even or partial take-profit, depending on the mode you choose.
  5. After a trade, the EA waits for a new swing to form before arming again. It never reuses a stale or already-traded level.

It holds one position at a time. There is no grid, no martingale, no averaging, no hedging, and no lot increase after a loss.

What Live Trading Taught Me, and What I Fixed in v2.0

Real money shows you things a backtest never will. The biggest lesson was about slippage on fast gold spikes:

  • A stop order can fill at a worse price than the order price.
  • In v1, the stop loss was measured from the order price, not the actual fill price.
  • So a slipped fill quietly widened the real risk. In one live case, a 350-point stop became a 1,383-point loss.

Version 2.0 (released 8 September 2026) was built to close that gap:

  • Stop loss re-anchored to the real fill price. The moment an order fills, SL and TP are recalculated from where you actually got in.
  • Emergency stop. If a loss ever exceeds 1.25× the planned stop distance, the position is closed at market, whatever the broker did. You can also set an absolute dollar limit per trade.
  • Slipped-entry abort. A fill that slipped too far is closed immediately.
  • Missing SL repair. If a broker rejects or drops a stop loss, the EA re-attaches it on the next tick.
  • Spread protection on by default. Pending orders are withdrawn during spread spikes.
  • Partial take-profit and break-even lock in Extended Target mode. A trade that runs and then reverses becomes a scratch instead of a full loss.
  • Optional ATR-adaptive stops and a trading-hour filter.
  • More reliable dashboard. "Today P/L" and "Trades Today" are rebuilt from deal history, so they stay correct after a restart or reconnect.

Protection Built In

These safeguards are on by default, and all of them are adjustable:

  • Daily loss limit ($15 by default; set it to suit your account)
  • Maximum 4 trades per day
  • Halt for the day after 3 losses in a row
  • High-impact news filter: stands aside 20 minutes before and 25 minutes after major releases
  • Daily trading window from 02:00 to 22:30 server time
  • Friday cut-off that removes pending orders and closes positions before the weekend

Optional prop-firm style rules include a daily profit target and a daily equity-drawdown limit.

Five Trading Modes

Mode Style
Rapid (default) Tight stop, trailing-focused exits
Guarded Same exits as Rapid, longer pause between trades
Extended Target Fixed target with partial profit and break-even lock
Position Wider stops and targets, fewer trades
Manual You set SL, TP, trail and pause yourself

Buy the EA or Copy the Signal?

You can do either, but consider this:

  • Speed matters here. Trades on this signal last 38 seconds on average.
  • Copying adds delay. A copied order is placed after mine, on a different broker's price feed. MQL5 itself flags a slippage risk when copying this signal.
  • The EA has no copy delay. It trades your own feed directly, with your own lot size and risk rules.
  • The cost is similar. Copying costs $30 per month. Buying the EA costs $69 once, about two and a half months of copying, and it's yours to keep.

Support

After purchase, attach the EA to an XAUUSD chart, choose your mode and risk, and enable algo trading. If you need help with settings or broker-specific behaviour, message me on MQL5 and I'll help you get set up.

Risk Warning

Trading gold and CFDs carries a high risk of loss. Six weeks of live results is a short track record, and past performance does not guarantee future results. Breakout systems have strong periods and quiet or choppy ones. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
