Fish and Chips is a fully automatic Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5, built for USDJPY. It buys fish (long trades) and sells chips (short trades) from a fixed, tested recipe. You choose one thing: the size of your portion. Everything else is built in.
How it trades
The robot reads the market on the one-hour (H1) timeframe and looks for clear price levels. When price moves away from those levels with enough strength, it opens one trade in that direction. Every order is sent with a hard stop loss from the first second. There is never more than one position open at a time.
The trading rules are fixed inside the robot. They were chosen on 2024 to September 2025 data and then checked unchanged on October 2025 to October 2026, a period that was never used for tuning. The rules are not exposed as inputs, so there is nothing for the user to re-optimise.
Risk management
- Hard stop loss on every order
- One position at a time
- No grid, no martingale, no averaging
- Lot size is calculated from your portion and the stop distance, then checked against free margin, volume limits and broker order limits before every order
- Optional spread filter that skips an order when the spread is too wide
Backtest summary
Strategy Tester, USDJPY H1, leverage 1:100, October 2019 to October 2026, 10,000 USD initial deposit, every tick based on real ticks where available.
- 1% portion: 1,575 trades, net profit 16,610.57 USD (+166%), Sharpe ratio 2.54
- 3% portion: 1,575 trades, net profit 107,245.47 USD (+1,072%), Sharpe ratio 2.13
- Same 3% test with random execution delay: 1,565 trades, net profit 85,406.01 USD
The screenshots show the equity curves and the full statistics. These are historical simulations, not live results. Past results do not guarantee future performance. A larger portion produces larger results and also larger drawdowns, so start with 1% or less and increase only if the swings suit you.
Inputs
- Portion type: percent of equity per order, or a fixed money amount per order
- Risk % of equity per order: default 1.0, allowed up to 5.0
- Risk money per order: default 300, used in fixed money mode
- Max spread: skip the order if the spread is above this many points, 0 turns the filter off
- Show panel and trade markers: on or off
- Chart theme: paints the chart in Fish and Chips colours, your own colours return when the robot is removed
- Magic number: change it only if you run other robots on the same account
On the chart
A small status panel shows the kitchen state, today's dish, open, daily and total profit, and your portion. While a trade is open, a blue zone marks a buy and a yellow zone marks a sell. The zones disappear when the trade closes.
Requirements and setup
- Symbol: USDJPY (any broker suffix)
- Attach to one USDJPY chart. Any chart timeframe works, the robot always uses its own H1 recipe
- Recommended: leverage 1:100 or higher, a low-spread account and a virtual private server (VPS) for continuous operation
- Enable Algo Trading in MetaTrader 5
