One profile per session tells you about the session. One profile per swing tells you about the trade you are in.
ApeX Volume Profile builds a profile for every pivot the market makes.
1. The profile
- Point of Control — The price where the most volume traded in that leg, optionally extended right or both ways so it becomes a live level.
- Value Area — High and low, with your own percentage (68% by default), and separate colours inside and outside so the value area separates itself without you looking for a line.
- Shading — The value area band and the full range of the leg, each with its own opacity, so you can make the profile prominent and the background almost invisible.
- Shape — Rows, width, row spacing, and left or right placement. Set spacing to zero for a solid block, or leave the gaps for a lighter chart.
- Labels — At the pivot, at the profile levels, or both — showing price, the change since the previous pivot, and the cumulative volume of the leg. The label tells you how far that leg travelled without you measuring it.
2. Volume-weighted candles
- Bold, normal and light — Each candle coloured by how much volume it carried against its own moving average. A breakout on thin volume no longer looks like a breakout on real volume.
- Your own thresholds — Bold above 1.618× the average, light below 0.618×, by default. Six colours, three per side.
- Works on its own — Use it with the profiles or without them.
- Off means off — Hide the indicator from the bar and your chart's own candle colours come straight back.
3. Part of the ApeX line
- One bar for four indicators — Volume Profile, SMC, ICT Concepts and ICT Macros share a single bar. Load any combination and you still get one bar, with one chip each.
- Docks onto ApeX Trading Console — With the Console on the same chart, the bar turns vertical, attaches to the panel, follows it as you drag, and fades with its transparency.
Getting started
- Drag Volume Profile onto any chart.
- Set Pivot Points Left / Right Length until the number of profiles looks right for how you trade. Everything else follows from it.
- Set Extend Point of Control to Right if you want historical PoCs as live levels.
Good to know
- MetaTrader 5, any broker, any symbol, any timeframe.
- It is an indicator: it draws only, and never sends an order.
- A profile is built from the candles of the chart's timeframe, so the same swing will not give an identical shape on M5 and on H1. That is the nature of the tool.
- Real volume is only as good as your broker's feed. Most forex feeds do not supply it, which is why tick volume is the default — and for intraday work it correlates well enough to be useful.
- The pivot length is the one setting everything else is a consequence of. Set it first.
