Liquidity Grab Playbook — How to Trade the Trap
Most traders lose because they react to the first move. Smart traders wait for the trap. A liquidity grab setup is built on a simple sequence: identify where stops are resting (equal highs/lows), wait for price to sweep that liquidity, then look for confirmation like rejection or a break of structure before entering.
This shifts your mindset from chasing breakouts to trading after manipulation. The entry comes when the market shows its real intent, not when it creates the illusion. Master this sequence, and you move from reacting like retail to thinking like smart money.

I remember a phase where I was winning… but it didn’t feel like winning. I’d take profit quickly, sometimes even before my target, just to “secure something.” +1%, +0.5%, small clean wins. It felt safe. It felt smart. But then I looked at my history… and it hit me. My losses were full size. My wins were tiny. I was slowly bleeding, even though I was right most of the time.
The truth was ugly — I wasn’t trading, I was protecting my emotions. I was afraid to see profit turn into loss, so I kept cutting it early. Since then, I forced one rule on myself: if I accept the risk at entry, I must also accept the reward. No touching the trade unless the plan says so. Because a trader who is right but afraid to hold… will still lose in the long run.

A liquidity grab happens when price deliberately moves into areas where traders have placed stop losses — above highs or below lows. These stops become liquidity for institutions, allowing them to enter large positions without slippage.
What looks like a breakout is often a trap. The market takes liquidity first, then moves in the real direction.
If you understand this, you stop chasing moves and start waiting for the trap to complete — that’s where the real opportunity is.

I once had a clean setup. Everything made sense — trend, structure, entry… all aligned. I entered with confidence. A few minutes later, price started going against me. Not aggressively, just slowly… enough to make me uncomfortable. I kept watching it tick by tick, thinking maybe I got in too early. Then I closed it. Small loss.

Because closing early out of fear is just another form of loss — it just feels safer in the moment.
