Gold Breakout Straddle V2 – A Rules-Based XAUUSD Breakout EA With a Hard Stop on Every Trade
Gold does not move in a straight line. It builds a range, forms a swing high and a swing low, and then breaks one of them — often fast. Most traders see that breakout after it has already happened. Gold Breakout Straddle was built to be waiting there before it does.
In this post I explain how the EA works, what is new in version 2.0, and why I designed it around one rule above all others: every trade has a hard stop loss, and the risk of a single trade can never quietly grow.

- THE IDEA: TRADE THE BREAK OF CONFIRMED STRUCTURE
The EA reads market structure on H1 and looks for the most recent confirmed swing high and swing low (a pivot with 5 bars on each side). It then places:
- a Buy Stop just above the swing high
- a Sell Stop just below the swing low
Whichever side price breaks first gets filled, and the trade is managed from that moment.
A few rules keep the levels clean:
- Only the single most recent confirmed swing is used. If it is too close to price, already traded through, or too old, the EA does not fall back to an older pivot — it waits for a new one.
- Once a pending order is placed, its price is locked. The EA does not chase the market.
- After a fill, it waits for a new swing before arming again, so it does not keep re-entering the same level.
- Unfilled pending orders expire automatically.
The result is a small number of deliberate trades instead of constant activity.
- WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
I want to be clear about this because it is the first thing I check when I look at any gold EA:
- No grid
- No martingale
- No averaging down
- No hedging
- One position at a time
Every trade stands on its own with a fixed, known risk.
- WHAT IS NEW IN VERSION 2.0
Version 2.0 was mainly about making the risk side bulletproof on real brokers, not just in the Strategy Tester.
Stop loss re-anchored to the real fill price Stop orders on gold can slip during fast moves. In V2, the moment a pending order fills, the stop loss and take profit are recalculated from the actual fill price. A slipped entry no longer means a wider stop.
Missing stop loss repair If a broker ever rejects or drops the stop loss, the EA re-attaches it automatically on the next tick.
Emergency exit (points and money) On top of the normal stop, there is an emergency ceiling. If a trade's loss ever goes beyond the stop distance x 1.25 (adjustable), or beyond an optional fixed dollar amount, the position is closed at market — no matter what happened to the resting stop.
Slippage guard If a fill slips further than a set limit, the trade is aborted instead of being carried with bad pricing.
Dashboard that survives restarts "Today P/L" and "Trades Today" are now rebuilt from closed deal history, so they stay correct after a terminal restart, reconnect or timeframe change.
Optional ATR-adaptive stops Stops and targets can scale with volatility (ATR) with a minimum and maximum limit, instead of fixed points.
Partial take profit, break-even and runner trail Bank part of the position at a set distance, move the stop to break-even plus a small lock, and let the remainder run with a wider trailing stop.
- FIVE TRADING MODES
You choose one setting and the EA loads a complete, tested profile:
- Rapid – quick targets and tight trailing, frequent trade management
- Guarded – more conservative handling of each trade
- Extended Target – larger targets with partial profit and break-even
- Position – wider stops for bigger moves
- Manual – set your own TP, SL, trail start, trail distance and pause
- ACCOUNT PROTECTION BUILT IN
These features make the EA suitable for traders who need strict daily rules, including prop-firm style accounts:
- Daily loss limit and optional daily profit target
- Maximum trades per day
- Stop for the day after a set number of consecutive losses
- Optional close-all on a daily equity/balance drawdown percentage
- News filter – stands aside before and after major releases
- Spread filter and high-spread protection (orders are withdrawn during spread spikes)
- Daily trading window (pending orders removed and positions closed at the end of the session)
- Friday cut-off before the weekend gap
- Optional hour filter to skip specific server hours
Position size can be a fixed lot or a percentage of balance.
- LIVE SIGNAL – FULL TRANSPARENCY
I run the EA on a live IC Markets account so anyone can see real results, not just backtests: https://www.mql5.com/en/signals/2386330
At the time of writing, the signal shows 37 trades with a 75.67% win rate and a profit factor of 1.38. The account is still young and small, and the maximum drawdown is 36.08% — I prefer to show that openly rather than hide it. Please judge the EA over time, not on a few weeks, and always follow the signal for yourself before deciding.
