Quotient Drift is a multi-tactic Expert Advisor for gold, traded from a single XAUUSD chart, with a prop-firm rule guard built in. This is the MetaTrader 4 build, a reduced engine that runs two tactics: a band reversion on the fifteen-minute chart in the direction of the four-hour trend, and a faster RSI pullback on the one-minute chart behind a volatility gate. Every ticket carries a stop loss placed with the broker, and the guard halts trading before the daily-loss and max-loss lines of whichever firm programme you select.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT ON METATRADER 4
- This is a reduced engine, not a port of the whole product. It runs two tactics where the MetaTrader 5 version carries five slots. The opening range, trend continuation and range breakout tactics are MetaTrader 5 only.
- The first tactic differs in kind. Here it is a band reversion: it fades a stretched Bollinger band, only with the four-hour trend and only below an ADX ceiling. On MetaTrader 5 that engine is included but ships switched off, and the shipped first tactic there is a trend pullback. Figures from the two versions are not comparable, and neither predicts the other.
- There is no news filter, because MetaTrader 4 has no economic calendar to read.
- The guard's day counter and floor high-water marks live in memory. Restarting the terminal mid-phase restarts them, so run it on a VPS and avoid restarts inside a trading day.
- MetaTrader 4 gold history on the test terminal begins in May 2025, so only two of the five test windows exist on this platform. The earlier windows that decided several MetaTrader 5 settings cannot be tested here at all.
- The shipped risk is 0.5 percent per trade, one step below the MetaTrader 5 figure. That is not caution for its own sake: on this data every higher step broke a floor in the second half of 2025.
HOW IT WORKS
- Entry: the first tactic fades a stretched two-deviation Bollinger band on the fifteen-minute chart, only in the direction of the trend EMA on the four-hour chart and only while ADX on that chart is below a ceiling, so it fades a stretch inside a trend rather than fighting a runaway one. The second tactic is a nine-period RSI pullback on the one-minute chart with an hourly EMA trend filter and an ADX floor, allowed only while the hourly ATR is above a set number of points.
- Exit: stop and target sized from ATR so the same settings behave sensibly at any gold price, a break-even move, a partial close that banks part of the trade, and an ATR trailing stop on what is left.
- Position policy: one position per tactic, a cap of one or two positions at once, a cap on the sum of open risk, and no adding to a position that is already losing. Where a firm prohibits holding both directions, the profile switches that off.
- Tiers: Standard runs the band reversion alone, one position at a time. Fast adds the RSI pullback and a second slot, and is idle when the hourly range is narrow, by design.
- Guard: daily-loss floor, static or trailing max-loss floor, an optional lock that fixes the floor at your starting balance once profit reaches a level, profit-target latch, minimum trading days, profitable-day counting, consistency gate, minimum holding time, and a size ratchet that never increases size after a losing trade.
- Session and execution: session windows measured in GMT rather than broker time, a pad around the daily rollover, an optional settlement block, a Friday flatten hour, a spread ceiling, and an on-chart dashboard.
FIRM RULE PROFILES
One dropdown fills the rule numbers for the programme you are trading. It sets the target, the daily and total loss limits, whether the floor is static or trailing, the reset clock, minimum days and the consistency rule. It does not check your account, restrict your broker, block any symbol or change how the EA trades. Where a firm prohibits holding both directions or requires a minimum holding time, selecting its profile forces those settings rather than merely defaulting them, so editing a preset cannot lose compliance by accident.
Of the firms below, FTMO, FundedNext, Blueberry Funded and Fintokei offer MetaTrader 4. The5ers, Eightcap and Funded Trading Plus do not, and their profiles are included for reference only.
Included: FTMO 2-Step, 1-Step and Funded. FundedNext Stellar 2-Step, 1-Step, Lite and Instant. Blueberry Funded 1-Step, 2-Step, Prime and Instant Elite. The5ers High Stakes, Hyper Growth, Pro Growth and Instant Funding. Eightcap One Phase and Two Phase. Funded Trading Plus 1-Step Express, 2-Step Classic and Instant. Fintokei ProTrader, SwiftTrader and StartTrader, rule numbers only. Manual lets you enter any other firm's rules by hand. Twenty-three programmes across seven firms.
One firm was measured with this build on MetaTrader 4: Blueberry Funded, on Blueberry's own MetaTrader 4 demo. Every other profile in the list supplies rule numbers with no MetaTrader 4 evidence behind it, and the setup guide says so per row rather than in a footnote. The5ers and Funded Trading Plus publish no demo server at all, so wherever their figures appear on the MetaTrader 5 listing they come from a stand-in feed; on this platform they have no figures. Fintokei's rule numbers are in the list, and this engine has never been run on a Fintokei feed on either platform.
Firms change their rules. The numbers in force are printed in the Experts log when the EA starts, so you can check them against your own firm dashboard before the first trade.
KEY FEATURES
- Stops before the line, not at it. Every floor keeps a buffer, so slippage on the closing trade cannot turn a guard stop into a breach.
- Daily reset on the firm's own clock: midnight central Europe, midnight eastern Europe, 17:00 US Eastern, broker server midnight or a fixed GMT hour, each following daylight saving.
- Trailing floors done the way each firm measures them, from the end-of-day balance high or the intraday equity high, with an optional lock once profit reaches a set level.
- Target latch closes a little above the target and pauses, so the closing spread still leaves the account above the line.
- Minimum trading days counted, and where a firm requires it, only days that closed in profit are counted.
- Consistency handled as a gate on finishing the phase rather than a block on entries, because blocking entries would deadlock the account after the first profitable day.
- Size ratchet for firms that treat any increase after a loss as martingale.
- Minimum holding time respected when the EA closes on reaching the target. Protective stops are exempt by design.
- Dashboard on the chart with the guard's live state.
WHAT THE TESTING SHOWED
These are Strategy Tester results on historical data, not live trading results, and they are not a prediction.
- The MetaTrader 4 testing ran on Blueberry's own MetaTrader 4 demo, gold alone, every tick, on a 100,000 account with the shipped Blueberry 2-Step preset. Its history begins in May 2025, so two windows exist here: the second half of 2025 and 2026 to date.
- In the trending 2026 window the account finished up 8.7 percent with a worst dip of 2.5 percent. It did not reach the ten percent first-phase target inside that window.
- In the flat second half of 2025 it finished up 1.7 percent with a worst dip of 6.1 percent against a ten percent floor. No target was reached and no floor was broken.
- Neither figure is a pass. What they show is an engine that keeps its drawdown inside the firm's line in both a trending and a flat market, and that is the claim being made.
- No window on this platform produced a pass, in thirty days or in any other number of days.
- Some programmes were tested and are not recommended, and the setup guide names them rather than leaving them out.
- Weeks with no trades are the volatility gate working as intended. Forcing frequency is how challenge accounts are usually lost.
WHAT THIS EA DOES NOT DO
- It does not open a position without a broker-side stop loss, in any mode.
- It does not grid, martingale or average into a losing position. There is no series code in it.
- It contains no account, server, broker, symbol or date restrictions. Everything here is a recommendation.
- It does not promise a pass. No setting can make a market move.
RECOMMENDED SETUP
- One XAUUSD chart, one instance. Attaching it twice runs it twice. Any chart timeframe works, because each tactic reads its own timeframes; the measurements were made on an M15 chart. Check the symbol suffix your broker uses.
- Choose your firm programme and phase, set your account size, and load the preset for your firm and tier from the setup guide. Never change the account size mid-phase.
- Use the shipped 0.5 percent risk step. On this platform that is one step below the MetaTrader 5 figure. Higher does not pass faster; it fails sooner.
- A VPS matters more here than on MetaTrader 5, because the guard does not keep its state across a restart.
INPUTS
Grouped as: firm profile, general, tactic one, tactic two, portfolio and arbiter, risk, filters and sessions, execution, and the challenge guard.
REQUIREMENTS
- MetaTrader 4, build 600 or later.
- Blueberry Funded quotes gold at reduced leverage and uses a symbol suffix, so check the suffix your broker publishes before attaching.
- FundedNext charges a separate fee to run an expert advisor, and expert advisors are not permitted on its free trial or competition accounts. Its profile is present; its MetaTrader 4 behaviour was not measured.
- MetaTrader 4 has no built-in economic calendar, so there is no news filter on this platform. It is absent rather than substituted.
- A MetaTrader 5 version is listed separately and is the fuller product, with five tactic slots, a news filter and a guard that keeps its state across a restart.
SETUP GUIDE AND SUPPORT
The full settings manual is a blog post on this site. It carries the rule numbers each firm profile applies, a separate MetaTrader 4 input reference because the two platforms do not share an input list, the risk ladder, and the troubleshooting order to work through when the EA is not trading:
The MetaTrader 5 version of this product, which runs all five tactic slots:
Support is through the Comments tab of this product, or a private message on this site. Please use those rather than any other channel, so the answer stays next to the product where the next buyer can find it.
RISK WARNING
Trading carries substantial risk. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and historical test results are not a prediction of future results. The EA can lose money. Never risk capital you cannot afford to lose.
