# False Breakout Filter - The failed break as a signal

### Overview
Every break of a level can evolve in two opposite ways: price continues, or it falls back leaving those who entered on the break trapped. The second case is more frequent and also more costly, but contains valuable information: when many operators find themselves on the wrong side, their forced exit fuels the opposite move. This indicator watches every break for a fixed number of bars and classifies it only afterwards. If price stayed beyond the level the break was valid and no signal is produced; if it fell back, the break was false and the arrow points the opposite way. The classification always happens once the observation period is complete, so it arrives late but is never revised: this is the difference from indicators that flag a false break and then change their mind.
### How the calculation works
1. The level to break is the high or low of the last InpLookback bars, excluding the current bar.
2. A break is recorded only if the close exceeds the level by at least InpBreakAtr times the ATR.
3. After the break the indicator counts bars and produces no assessment until the period is complete.
4. At expiry the close position is checked: beyond the level means a valid break, on the opposite side means failure.
5. Only failure produces an arrow, pointing opposite to the original break.
6. In both cases the observation closes and the indicator returns to searching for a new break.
### How to use it
- Trade in the direction of the arrow: whoever entered on the break is exiting, and their exit fuels the move.
- The natural stop is just beyond the extreme reached during the false break, the point at which the reading would be disproven.
- The gold line shows the level under observation: when visible, the indicator is assessing a break.
- Raise InpConfirmBars for a more reliable but later classification.
- False breaks are more frequent in sideways phases: that is where this indicator performs best.
### Who it is for and on which timeframes
It targets counter-trend traders working false breaks and those who simply want to avoid them. It works from M15 to D1. The classification delay is deliberate and unavoidable: anyone seeking an immediate signal will not find it, but gets perfectly verifiable historical signals in exchange. It is also useful as a study tool, because it shows how many breaks on a given instrument actually fail.
### Practical example of reading a signal
On USDCAD H1 price breaks the high of the last thirty bars, closing clearly above. Anyone going long at that moment pays the worst price. The gold line appears on the broken level and the indicator starts watching. Over the next five bars price fails to continue and closes back below the level. On the fifth bar the classification is complete: the break was false and the red arrow appears above the high. The trader goes short with a stop above the high reached during the false break. Longs entered on the break are losing and their exit fuels the decline, which continues for twelve bars.

## Advantages / strengths
- It turns a negative event, the false break, into an operational signal with a defined direction.
- The classification always happens at period completion and is never revised.
- The gold line makes the internal state visible, so you can see when an assessment is under way.
- Useful even purely as a study tool, to understand how many breaks fail on a given market.
## Limitations and warnings
- The signal arrives InpConfirmBars bars after the break: part of the counter move has already happened.
- The failure criterion is binary and assessed on a single bar, the expiry one.
- It watches one break at a time: further breaks during the observation are ignored.
- In strongly directional markets false breaks are rare and the indicator produces very few signals.
**No repaint:** values printed on a closed bar are never modified afterwards.
