Today’s Technical Analysis
14 September 2026

Market Overview

The key themes today are higher oil prices, weaker gold and silver, a stronger U.S. dollar, and short-term rebounds in equity indices.

WTI crude has risen above US$102 and continues to show an uptrend on the hourly and daily charts. By contrast, both gold and silver, in futures and spot markets, are Strong Sell across all timeframes. The divergence between oil and precious metals has widened further.

U.S. equities and the UK 100 are staging short-term rebounds, while the DAX and CAC 40 remain weak. The Nikkei 225 is also showing buy signals on the 5-minute and 15-minute charts, but remains bearish on the hourly and daily charts, suggesting that the move is a rebound within a broader downtrend.

In FX, EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, and NZD/USD are all biased to the downside. Cross-yen pairs have turned higher from the short-term through hourly charts, but daily signals remain bearish across the board. This appears to be a short-covering rebound within the broader yen-strength trend.

Commodity Markets

Gold: 4,322.80

The 5-minute, 15-minute, hourly, and daily charts are all Strong Sell.

Not only gold futures but also spot gold, XAU/USD at 4,283.70, is Strong Sell across all timeframes. This is not merely a short-term correction; it is a clear downtrend extending into the medium and longer term.

The basic strategy remains selling rallies. However, consecutive declines raise the possibility of oversold conditions. Rather than chasing fresh shorts at lower levels, it is preferable to wait for a rebound on the 5-minute and 15-minute charts before looking for renewed sell signals.

Silver: 63.055

All timeframes are Strong Sell.

The short-term rebound seen on the 5-minute chart previously has lost momentum. Spot silver, XAG/USD at 62.6120, is also Strong Sell across all timeframes, fully confirming the same direction as futures.

Silver has fallen more sharply than gold and is likely to remain volatile. Selling rallies remains the preferred strategy, but position size should be kept modest.

WTI Crude Oil: 102.56

The 5-minute chart is Strong Sell, the 15-minute chart is Neutral, the hourly chart is Buy, and the daily chart is Strong Buy.

The medium- and longer-term uptrend remains intact, but profit-taking has begun above US$102. The market has moved from the broadly bullish conditions seen previously into a short-term correction.

Buying dips remains the preferred approach, but with the 5-minute chart still Strong Sell, there is no need to rush into longs. It is more appropriate to wait for renewed upside confirmation on the 15-minute and hourly charts.

If WTI can hold above US$100, the uptrend is more likely to continue. A clear break below that level would raise the risk of a deeper correction.

Natural Gas: 2.891

The 5-minute chart is Strong Sell, the 15-minute chart is Neutral, the hourly chart is Strong Buy, and the daily chart is Buy.

Natural gas has improved substantially from the previous all-timeframe Strong Sell signal. The hourly and daily charts have turned upward, although short-term profit-taking is now underway.

If selling on the 5-minute chart subsides and the 15-minute chart turns higher, natural gas could become a buying-on-dips candidate. If the hourly chart deteriorates back to Neutral or Sell, the current rise may prove to be only a temporary rebound.

Equity Indices

Dow Jones: 52,573.29

The 5-minute and 15-minute charts are Strong Sell, the hourly chart is Neutral, and the daily chart is Strong Sell.

The index has rebounded by around 1% from the previous reading, but short-term signals have turned bearish again. This looks more like a recovery within a daily downtrend than the start of a new uptrend.

Selling rallies remains the preferred strategy.

S&P 500: 7,656.98

The 5-minute and 15-minute charts are Strong Sell, while the hourly and daily charts are Neutral.

The index has rebounded from the previous level, but short-term charts are showing heavier upside pressure. The daily chart has improved to Neutral, making it more resilient than the Dow, but it is not yet in a condition that supports aggressive buying.

A turn higher on the hourly chart would create a buying-on-dips opportunity. A turn lower would suggest that the rebound has ended.

Nasdaq 100: 29,368.44

The 5-minute and 15-minute charts are Strong Sell, while the hourly and daily charts are Buy.

The index is undergoing a short-term correction, but the medium-term and daily upward trend has recovered. It is currently the strongest of the major U.S. equity indices.

It remains a buying-on-dips candidate as long as the hourly Buy signal holds. However, while the 5-minute and 15-minute charts remain bearish, there is no need to rush into an entry.

DAX: 25,424.17

The 5-minute chart is Neutral, the 15-minute chart is Sell, and the hourly and daily charts are Strong Sell.

European equities remain weak, and the DAX is no exception. The 5-minute chart shows a temporary pause in the decline, but the downtrend on higher timeframes remains unchanged.

The basic strategy is to sell after short-term rebounds.

UK 100: 10,719.25

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly charts are Strong Buy, while the daily chart is Neutral.

The index has improved significantly from the previous reading and is now the strongest European equity index. Buying dips is favoured from the short-term through hourly charts.

However, the daily chart remains Neutral, so a medium- to long-term uptrend has not yet been confirmed. A daily Buy signal would increase confidence in the bullish view.

CAC 40: 8,115.15

All timeframes are Strong Sell.

This is the clearest downtrend among the equity indices reviewed today. It is weaker than the DAX, with bearish signals fully aligned from the short term through the daily chart.

Selling rallies remains the preferred strategy, although chasing prices lower after an extended decline should be avoided.

Nikkei 225: 63,641.00

The 5-minute and 15-minute charts are Strong Buy, the hourly chart is Sell, and the daily chart is Strong Sell.

Short-term buying has emerged, but the price remains below the previous reading. This is a rebound against the hourly and daily downtrends.

Short-term longs may be possible, but this is not suitable for longer-term holding. If the 15-minute chart turns bearish, selling rallies after the rebound loses momentum becomes more compelling.

FX Markets

EUR/USD: 1.1541

The 5-minute chart is Sell, while the 15-minute, hourly, and daily charts are Strong Sell.

EUR/USD remains in a downtrend. Selling rallies remains the preferred approach.

GBP/USD: 1.3484

The 5-minute chart is Neutral, while the 15-minute, hourly, and daily charts are Strong Sell.

Cable has fallen below 1.3500, with sterling selling and dollar buying dominant. It is a candidate for selling after a short-term rebound.

USD/JPY: 154.69

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly charts are Strong Buy, while the daily chart is Strong Sell.

Dollar buying and yen selling are clear from the short term through the hourly chart, but the daily trend remains biased toward yen strength. The current rise appears to be a rebound within the daily downtrend.

Short-term longs are possible, but selling pressure is likely to emerge in the ¥155 area. This is a market where profits should be taken relatively quickly.

USD/CHF: 0.8168

The 5-minute and 15-minute charts are Strong Sell, the hourly chart is Neutral, and the daily chart is Strong Buy.

A short-term correction is underway within the daily uptrend. It remains a potential buying-on-dips candidate, but waiting for the hourly chart to turn higher is more appropriate.

AUD/USD: 0.7128

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly charts are Strong Sell, while the daily chart is also Sell.

The pair has deteriorated rapidly from the previous broad-based bullish signals. Australian dollar strength has faded for now, and selling rallies is currently favoured.

NZD/USD: 0.5771

The 5-minute chart is Neutral, while the 15-minute, hourly, and daily charts are Strong Sell.

New Zealand dollar weakness continues. NZD/USD remains one of the main candidates for selling rallies among the dollar pairs.

Cross-Yen Pairs

EUR/JPY, GBP/JPY, CHF/JPY, and CAD/JPY are Buy from the short term through the hourly chart, while their daily charts remain Sell.

As with USD/JPY, these pairs are undergoing a strong short-covering rebound within the broader yen-strength trend. Short-term buying is possible, but the risk of a return to the daily bearish direction should always be considered.

AUD/JPY and NZD/JPY have short-term Buy signals, but their hourly direction is weaker. Their upside has lower conviction than that of the other cross-yen pairs.

Relatively strong cross-yen pairs in the short term

• GBP/JPY
• EUR/JPY
• CHF/JPY
• CAD/JPY

Cross-yen pairs with less stable upside

• AUD/JPY
• NZD/JPY

Other Currency Pairs

EUR/GBP: 0.8559

All timeframes are Sell. The 15-minute, hourly, and daily charts are Strong Sell.

Sterling is relatively stronger than the euro, making EUR/GBP a clear candidate for selling rallies in today’s FX market.

AUD/NZD: 1.2350

The 5-minute chart is Strong Sell, the 15-minute chart is Sell, and the hourly and daily charts are Strong Buy.

The Australian dollar remains stronger than the New Zealand dollar over the medium and longer term, but a short-term correction is underway. This is a potential buying-on-dips candidate in line with the hourly trend, but it is preferable to wait for the 15-minute chart to improve to Buy.

EUR/CHF: 0.9426

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly charts are Strong Sell, while the daily chart is Strong Buy.

This is a short-term correction against the daily uptrend. The conflict between timeframes is substantial: short-term rallies can be sold, while daily-chart buying should wait for confirmation of a short-term reversal.

BTC/USD: 77,950

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly charts are Strong Buy, while the daily chart is Neutral.

BTC has improved substantially from the previous short-term selling pressure. It has been bought back from the US$77,000 area, with buying dips favoured from the short term through the hourly chart.

However, the daily chart remains Neutral. If trading the short-term rise, it is preferable to take profits quickly and monitor whether the daily chart improves to Buy.

Key Points to Watch

WTI crude has risen above US$102, but the 5-minute chart is Strong Sell. Although the daily uptrend remains in place, there is a risk that the short-term correction could deepen.

Gold and silver are Strong Sell across all timeframes in both futures and spot markets. However, selling multiple gold and silver positions at the same time would effectively concentrate risk on one precious-metals-downside theme.

Among equity indices, the UK 100 and Nasdaq 100 are relatively strong, while the DAX and CAC 40 remain weak. Rather than treating all equity indices as one market, this is a situation where differences in strength between regions and indices can be used.

USD/JPY and the cross-yen pairs are short-term buys but daily-chart sells. It is important not to mistake the short-term rise for a reversal of the daily trend, and to define both holding period and stop-loss levels clearly.
