Ninja Trinity XAU: Three Independent Strategies for XAUUSD M5 - Testing Checklist
Ninja Trinity XAU combines three independent trading strategies for XAUUSD on the M5 timeframe.
However, a multi-strategy EA should not be evaluated only by running one combined backtest and checking the final profit.
Each strategy should be tested separately, and traders should also confirm what happens when the three strategies operate together.
Ninja Trinity XAU is currently being reviewed for future redevelopment and improvement. Some specifications, settings and trading behavior may change in a future version.
This article provides a practical checklist that can be used when testing the current version or evaluating a future updated version.
1. Check the Basic Test Conditions
Before starting the backtest, confirm the following settings:
• Use your broker’s correct XAUUSD or GOLD symbol
• Set the testing timeframe to M5
• Use “Every tick based on real ticks” when available
• Include spread and commission in the test
• Check the initial deposit and account currency
• Confirm your broker’s leverage
• Confirm the symbol’s contract size
• Check the minimum lot and lot step
• Use a realistic testing period
• Confirm that sufficient historical data has been downloaded
A backtest can look very different when the broker’s symbol specifications, spread or historical data are changed.
2. Test Each Strategy Separately
Ninja Trinity XAU contains three independent strategies.
Before testing all three together, enable only one strategy at a time.
For each strategy, check:
• Total number of trades
• Profit factor
• Maximum drawdown
• Average profit and average loss
• Largest winning and losing trades
• Consecutive losses
• Monthly consistency
• Recent performance
• Periods with no trades
• Sensitivity to spread
A strategy with a high total profit may still depend on only a small number of unusually large winning trades.
Trade frequency is also important. If a strategy produces very few entries, the backtest may not provide enough evidence to judge its reliability.
3. Compare Different Market Periods
Do not test only one favorable period.
It is useful to compare:
• The most recent several months
• The most recent one year
• Multiple previous years
• Trending periods
• Ranging periods
• High-volatility periods
• Low-volatility periods
Recent performance should be checked carefully, but older periods can also show how the strategy behaves under different market conditions.
Look for sudden changes in performance rather than focusing only on the final balance.
4. Test All Three Strategies Together
After testing each strategy separately, enable all three strategies and run another backtest.
Check:
• Whether multiple strategies open positions at the same time
• Maximum total lot exposure
• Available margin during overlapping trades
• Combined maximum drawdown
• The largest daily loss
• The largest weekly loss
• Whether one strategy causes most of the losses
• Whether the combined result is better than the individual results
Independent entry logic does not guarantee independent risk.
All three strategies trade the same XAUUSD market. During a large gold movement, more than one strategy may be affected by the same market condition.
5. Check Broker-Specific Conditions
XAUUSD specifications can differ significantly between brokers.
Confirm:
• Symbol name and suffix
• Number of digits
• Tick size
• Tick value
• Contract size
• Minimum lot
• Lot step
• Stop level
• Typical spread
• Commission
• Broker server time
• Swap conditions
• Execution method
Server time is especially important when an EA uses time-based trading filters or Friday position-management rules.
A test performed with one broker’s data cannot guarantee the same result with another broker.
6. Check the Journal and Experts Logs
Do not look only at the backtest graph.
Open the Journal and Experts tabs and check for:
• Invalid volume errors
• Insufficient margin
• Invalid Stop Loss or Take Profit
• Trade permission errors
• Spread-filter rejections
• Order execution failures
• Missing historical data
• Repeated error messages
An EA may appear to produce few trades because of strict entry conditions, but it may also be prevented from trading by incorrect symbol settings or order errors.
7. Run a Demo Forward Test
A backtest should be followed by a demo forward test.
During the demo test, check:
• Whether the EA opens positions normally
• Whether Stop Loss and Take Profit are placed correctly
• Whether positions are managed as expected
• Whether the EA continues operating after MT5 restarts
• Whether broker spread affects entry frequency
• Whether VPS disconnections occur
• Whether the actual trade frequency matches the backtest
The forward test does not need to reproduce every historical trade.
The purpose is to confirm that the EA operates correctly under the broker’s current trading conditions.
8. Watch for Important Warning Signs
Be cautious when:
• Most profit comes from one or two trades
• The trade count is extremely low
• Recent performance is significantly weaker
• Drawdown increases sharply in recent periods
• Small spread changes destroy the result
• One strategy produces nearly all the profit
• The combined version has much higher risk
• Demo results differ greatly from the backtest
• The EA produces repeated execution errors
A smooth balance curve is not enough by itself.
The testing conditions, number of trades, drawdown and broker differences should all be considered together.
Current Development Status
Ninja Trinity XAU is currently being reviewed for redevelopment and improvement.
The objective is to examine entry frequency, market-condition adaptation, Take Profit and Stop Loss behavior, risk control and recent-market performance.
For this reason, future specifications may differ from the current version.
If the current free demo is available on the MQL5 Market page, it can be used for reference testing. However, current demo results should not be treated as a guarantee of the specifications or performance of a future updated version.
Please test with your own broker conditions before any live use.
Risk Notice
Backtest and demo results do not guarantee future performance.
XAUUSD can move sharply within a short period and may cause rapid financial losses.
Live results may differ because of spreads, commission, slippage, execution speed, server time, symbol specifications, historical data and changing market conditions.
Use only risk capital and do not use an EA on a live account until you understand its trading behavior and potential drawdown.
