My Seven Trading Sins, and the Free MT5 Tool That Calls Them Out

My X account is called FOREX Sins for a reason.

Looking back at the accounts I blew, the strategy was rarely the main problem. I was. I sized up after a good week. I took the next trade five minutes after a loss, to "win it back". I opened one more trade than I'd planned, then another. I moved a stop further away because I was sure price would turn. And once I had a working EA, I closed its trades early because I didn't like how they looked.

None of those mistakes came from not knowing the rules. I knew them. I'd even written them down. I just broke them in the moment, and nothing told me I was doing it until the account statement did.

So I built something for that moment. It's called Seven Sins, and it's free on the MQL5 Market.

What it is

Seven Sins is a small utility for MetaTrader 5 that watches your account and calls you out, on the chart, when you break one of your own rules.

It never opens, closes or modifies a trade. It doesn't give signals, and it doesn't care whether you made money today. It only cares whether you followed your process.

When you break a rule, a "sin card" appears on your charts: what you did, which rule it broke, and a dry one-liner. If one trade breaks several rules at once, they all land on the same card. Get through a whole trading day without breaking any, and your clean-day streak goes up by one. One sin resets it to zero.

The seven sins

I. Greed: the risk to your stop loss is more than your limit for one trade.
"The market did not ask for a bigger bet. You did."

II. Wrath: opening a new trade within your cool-down period after a losing trade.
"Revenge is a dish best not traded."

III. Gluttony: more trades in a day than your own daily cap.
"Still hungry?"

IV. Pride: no stop loss, a stop removed, or a stop moved further away.
"Hope is not a stop loss."

V. Sloth: trading straight into a high-impact news release, using MT5's own economic calendar.
"The calendar was right there."

VI. Envy: jumping on a move that has already run much further than normal.
"Everyone else's profit is not your entry signal."

VII. Lust: closing a trade your EA opened, because you couldn't leave it alone.
"It was behaving exactly as tested."

The limits are yours. Risk per trade, the cool-down after a loss, the daily trade cap, the time you allow yourself to add a stop, the news window and the chase limit are all settings, because a rule only works if it's one you actually agreed to.

Lust is the one I designed for myself. When EUR FORGE has a run of losing trades, the urge to step in is strong, even though losing streaks are completely normal for any strategy that wins around half its trades. Seven Sins notices when I interfere, and names the EA I interfered with.

The dashboard

Put Seven Sins on a spare chart and it becomes a small dashboard: your clean-day streak, today's sins one tile each, the current trading session, the next high-impact news, and a heartbeat that warns you if the connection drops or algo trading gets switched off while your EAs are running.

What it deliberately doesn't do

- It doesn't celebrate winning trades. A win that broke your rules is still a sin.
- It doesn't encourage you to trade more. A quiet day with no trades is a clean day.
- It doesn't promise better results, and it isn't a tool for passing prop-firm challenges. It reminds you of your own rules. That's all.

Get it

Seven Sins is free on the MQL5 Market:

Attach it to a spare chart, set your rules, and leave your EAs and trading charts as they are. It runs on the MT5 desktop terminal.

A question for you

Which sin do you commit most? And is there a rule you keep breaking that isn't on this list? Tell me in the comments. It'll shape the next update.

If you'd rather leave the trading itself to rules: EUR FORGE, my rule-based EURUSD Expert Advisor, has a free demo on the MQL5 Market. Run it in your own MT5 Strategy Tester (on a PC):
