Welcome to the official setup guide and parameter manual for HalfTrend AutoTrader Pro.

This blog post contains a complete breakdown of every input parameter, instructions on how to load preset files, and the official .set files available for download at the bottom of this article.

Official Preset Files (.set)

We have prepared four distinct optimized setup files tailored for XAUUSD (Gold) . Download the one that best matches your preferred timeframe and risk profile:

  • HalfTrend_Pro_XAUUSD_M15_Balanced.set (Default Setup)

    • Asset / Timeframe: XAUUSD / M15

    • Profile: Balanced trade frequency and win rate . Uses HalfTrend Amplitude 3 with a 1.5 ATR Stop Loss and 0.75 ATR Trailing Stop .

  • HalfTrend_Pro_XAUUSD_H1_DynamicRisk_TrendRunner.set

    • Asset / Timeframe: XAUUSD / H1

    • Profile: Designed for riding large trend moves on the 1-Hour chart . Automatically calculates lot size based on 1% account risk with a wider 1.4 ATR Trailing Stop .

  • HalfTrend_Pro_XAUUSD_M15_Selective_Scalp_Amp4.set

    • Asset / Timeframe: XAUUSD / M15

    • Profile: Highly selective entry mode requiring strong ADX momentum (ADX > 27) . Uses a tight 0.25 ATR Trailing Stop to lock in profits rapidly .

  • HalfTrend_Pro_XAUUSD_M15_Conservative_HighWinrate_Amp5.set

    • Asset / Timeframe: XAUUSD / M15

    • Profile: Conservative setup utilizing a smoother Amplitude 5 filter to eliminate market noise and maximize trade accuracy .

How to Load .set Files in MetaTrader 5

  1. Download the .set file to your computer.

  2. Open MetaTrader 5 and attach HalfTrend AutoTrader Pro to your chart (or open the Strategy Tester).

  3. In the EA properties window, go to the Inputs tab.

  4. Click the Load button at the bottom right.

  5. Select the downloaded .set file and click Open.

  6. Click OK to apply the settings.

Detailed Parameter Manual

=== 1. Core Indicator Settings ===

  • HalfTrend Amplitude: Controls the sensitivity of the underlying HalfTrend calculation. Lower values (e.g., 2) generate more frequent signals; higher values (e.g., 4–5) filter out market noise.

  • HalfTrend Channel Period (ATR): The ATR period used internally by the HalfTrend line algorithm (default: 100).

  • HalfTrend Channel Deviation: The multiplier for the upper/lower volatility bands surrounding the HalfTrend line.

=== 2. Money Management ===

  • Lot Sizing Method: Choose between Fixed Lot Size or Percentage Risk .

  • Fixed Lot Size: The exact lot size traded when Fixed Lot mode is selected (e.g., 0.01).

  • Risk per Trade (% of Balance): The percentage of account equity/balance risked per trade when Percentage Risk mode is active.

=== 3. General Calculation Parameters ===

  • Global Standard ATR Period: The ATR bar period used to calculate standard ATR-based Stop Loss distances and ATR Trailing Stops (default: 14).

=== 4. Stop Loss Settings ===

  • Stop Loss Mode:

    • SL_CHANNEL : Sets the Stop Loss at the outer HalfTrend channel band.

    • SL_LINE : Sets the Stop Loss at the center HalfTrend line.

    • SL_PRICE_ATR : Sets the Stop Loss at a fixed ATR distance from the entry price.

  • SL Multiplier: Multiplier applied to the selected Stop Loss distance (e.g., 1.5x ATR).

=== 5. Take Profit / Exit Settings ===

  • Take Profit Mode:

    • TP_FIXED_RR : Sets a fixed Take Profit target based on a Risk-Reward Ratio (RRR).

    • TP_CHANNEL_TRAIL : Dynamic trailing stop using the opposite HalfTrend channel band.

    • TP_PRICE_ATR_TRAIL : Dynamic trailing stop trailing the Ask/Bid price by a standard ATR distance.

  • Risk-Reward Ratio: Desired RRR target (only active when TP_FIXED_RR is selected).

  • ATR Trailing Multiplier: Distance multiplier for ATR Trailing mode (e.g., 0.75x ATR).

=== 6. ADX Filter Settings ===

  • Activate ADX Trend Filter: Set to true to block new trades when the market is in a weak trend or sideways consolidation.

  • ADX Period: The calculation period for the ADX indicator.

  • Minimum ADX Level: The minimum required ADX threshold for a trade signal to be valid.

=== 7. Regime (MA Trend) Filter ===

  • Activate Regime Filter: Set to true to restrict trades to the direction of a higher-timeframe Moving Average.

  • MA Timeframe / Period / Type / Price: Parameters defining the trend filter line (e.g., 200 EMA on H4).

=== 8. ATR Volatility Filter ===

  • Activate ATR Volatility Filter: Prevents trading during extreme price spikes or dead market conditions.

  • Filter Condition: Choose ATR_FILTER_MAX (blocks high-volatility spikes) or ATR_FILTER_MIN (blocks low-volatility chop).

  • ATR Unit: Choose between Price Units or Points .

  • ATR Threshold: The threshold value triggering the filter.

=== 9. Time Filter Settings (Broker Server Time) ===

  • Activate Time Filter: Set to true to restrict execution to specific operating hours.

  • Start / End Hour & Minute: Defines the active trading window based on your broker's server time.

=== 10. System & Execution Settings ===

  • Magic Number: Unique identifier for the EA's orders.

  • Slippage: Maximum allowed slippage in points.


Important Note on Settings & Backtesting

Performance depends significantly on your chosen input parameters. While our provided .set files offer a solid foundation and a great starting point, we strongly encourage you to run your own backtests and forward-tests to find the strategy and risk parameters that best suit your personal trading style. HalfTrend AutoTrader Pro was intentionally built with a wide array of customizable settings—including flexible filters, Stop Loss modes, and dynamic trailing engines—giving you total flexibility to adapt to any changing market phase.
