EMA200 Gold Trend Trailing is a trend-following Expert Advisor for gold (XAUUSD) on the M5 chart. It trades only in the direction of the H1 trend, places a real stop loss on every trade and lets winners run with a trailing stop.
How it works
- Entry: EMA 9 crosses EMA 21 on a closed M5 bar (no repainting).
- Trend filter: buys only above the EMA 200 on H1, sells only below it.
- Initial stop loss: at the swing that created the cross, plus a 1 USD buffer, minimum 10 USD.
- Break-even at +1.5R (entry + spread + 0.1R).
- Chandelier trailing stop at 3 x ATR(14) from +1.5R, tightened to half the distance from +3R.
- No fixed take profit. Losing trades are usually 1R or less; a few winners reach 3R, 5R or more.
Safety
- One position at a time, with a stop loss always on the server.
- No martingale, no grid, no averaging, no hedging tricks.
- Lot size is calculated from the risk % of the balance.
- Free margin, volume limits and the symbol's trading mode are checked before every order.
Backtest 2016–2026 (XAUUSD M5, 10,000 USD, 1% risk per trade)
- Net profit: +43,602 USD, from 2,979 trades.
- Profit factor 1.10. Win rate 41.7%. Average result +0.065R per trade.
- Maximum equity drawdown 20.9%, and 37.6% relative (2020).
- 9 of 11 years positive. Negative years: 2018 (−8.5R) and 2020 (−21.4R).
- Longest losing streak: 18 trades. 40% of months were negative.
- Tested in "profit in pips" mode, so commissions and swaps are not included. Real spreads, commissions and slippage will reduce results.
What to expect
This is a long-term system with a small edge. Expect losing streaks, negative months and some negative years. Most of the historical profit came from buy trades during strong gold uptrends. In a long sideways or bearish gold market, results can be much weaker.
Recommendations
- Symbol: XAUUSD (or your broker's gold symbol). Timeframe: M5.
- Minimum balance 3,000 USD; 5,000 USD or more is recommended.
- Risk: 0.5% per trade for live accounts.
- Run it on a VPS, 24/5.
- Test it on a demo account for 2–3 months with your broker before going live.
