Mechanical Support Resistance
Automatically calculates support and resistance levels using vertical price-profile analysis with pivot-style updates.
Mechanical Support Resistance sits between a traditional support/resistance indicator, a pivot indicator, and a vertical profile indicator.
Like an S/R indicator, it identifies important price levels. Like a pivot indicator, those levels remain fixed for a defined period and refresh on a scheduled daily, weekly, or monthly basis. And like a vertical profile, it analyzes how price has been distributed vertically across historical market data to locate significant price concentrations.
Mechanical SR does not depend on broker volume data or traditional pivot calculations. Levels are calculated from multi-timeframe OHLC price profiles.
Built for Traders Who Want To
- Work with automatically calculated support and resistance levels.
- Use stable levels that do not shift when changing chart timeframes.
- Avoid constantly recalculating or repainting S/R levels.
- Match level calculation to scalping, day trading, or swing trading.
- Keep charts clean with a selected set of mechanically derived key levels.
What Mechanical Support Resistance Does
The indicator builds a vertical price profile from multiple fixed timeframes and analyzes historical OHLC price action for significant price concentrations and tests.
These concentrations are converted into horizontal support and resistance levels.
The calculation range and update frequency depend on the selected trading preset. Once calculated, the levels remain fixed throughout the current calculation period. Changing the chart timeframe does not change them.
Depending on the selected preset, a new level set is calculated daily, weekly, or monthly.
Three Concepts in One Indicator
Support & Resistance
The final output is a clean set of horizontal price levels designed to highlight potentially important areas of support and resistance.
Pivot-Style Updates
Levels remain fixed during their calculation period rather than continuously moving with every new candle. Depending on the preset, they refresh daily, weekly, or monthly.
Vertical Price Profiling
Instead of relying on conventional swing points alone, the indicator evaluates the vertical distribution of multi-timeframe OHLC price action and identifies significant concentrations within that profile.
Trading Presets
Scalping – Higher level density with daily updates.
Intraday – Balanced level selection with daily updates.
Intraweek Swing – More selective levels with weekly updates.
Higher-Timeframe Swing – Broader historical analysis with monthly updates.
Each preset automatically adjusts the profile history, resolution, level sensitivity, and update cycle for its intended trading style.
Stable Across Timeframes
Mechanical SR uses a fixed multi-timeframe calculation process. Switching between M1, M15, H1, H4, or other chart timeframes does not produce a different set of levels.
This makes it possible to identify the larger structure on one timeframe and use the same levels for entries or trade management on another.
Customizable Appearance
Adjust the level color, style, width, and future-bar extension directly from the indicator settings.
The current trading preset and update cycle can also be displayed in the chart corner for quick reference.
How to Use
- Attach Mechanical Support Resistance to a chart.
- Select the preset that matches the intended trading style.
- Allow the indicator to calculate its multi-timeframe price profile.
- Use the resulting levels as areas of interest for support, resistance, breakouts, reversals, or trade management.
- Combine the levels with the preferred entry and confirmation method rather than treating every level as an automatic trade signal.
