Valve says these alterations were necessary to fix imbalances in the map structures. As Valve's Ido Magal explained to Kotaku: "The maps Dust and Aztec aren't played competitively at all because they were so imbalanced in Source. We feel very bullish on changing them, so we did. Dust 2 is a wonderfully balanced map that we didn't need to change. We just gave it a visual upgrade. "
At launch, CS: GO will be split into two main sections. There will be the "Classic" modes of bomb-defusal and hostage-rescue, while players will also be csgo skins introduced to the new "Arsenal" modes. These latter modes are similar in style to the popular Gun Game mods from the old Counter-Strike games. Basically, players receive a new gun for every kill, beginning with the lowly pistol and no doubt working up to some type of devastating auto-sniper weapon.
In CS: GO, this Gun Game-esq mode will take place over eight new maps, which Valve is promising will be extremely small and cramped, thus encouraging "really, really fast gameplay. " Other modes that have been hinted at for official post-launch updates include deathmatch and even the popular zombie mod.
