Gemina trades gold (XAUUSD) and USD/JPY from one chart. It is a selective system: about 17 trades a year across both markets, at most one open trade per market, and every trade opens with its stop loss and take profit already set. No grid, no martingale, no averaging down, no trade without a stop.
It does not try to trade every day. It waits for a specific situation in each market and stays out the rest of the time, which is why it can run with a small drawdown.
Backtest, January 2019 to October 2026 (gold and USD/JPY together, 10 000 USD, MT5 Strategy Tester, every tick based on real ticks, broker spreads and swaps)
- Medium (1% per trade): net profit +12 131 USD (+121%), maximum equity drawdown 11.5%, profit factor 1.81
- Low (0.5% per trade): +49%, maximum equity drawdown 5.8%
- High (2% per trade): +366%, maximum equity drawdown 16.0%
- 139 trades, about one every three weeks
- Every calendar year was profitable at all three risk levels
Per year, Medium: 2019 +16.5%, 2020 +11.2%, 2021 +19.1%, 2022 +2.3%, 2023 +18.1%, 2024 +4.5%, 2025 +12.3%, 2026 to October +1.2%.
Winning trades are fewer than losing trades but several times larger: about one trade in three reaches its target. Expect strings of small losses between larger wins.
Optional markets: Bitcoin and Ethereum
The same fixed settings can also trade Bitcoin and Ethereum (switched off by default; set them to "auto" in the inputs). Backtest with only Bitcoin and Ethereum, January 2019 to October 2026, 10 000 USD, Medium, real ticks, broker spreads and swaps: +77%, maximum equity drawdown 11.7%, profit factor 1.46, 178 trades. Less steady than gold: 2022 and 2025 made most of it, and 2019, 2020 and 2023 were slightly negative. Crypto swaps differ a lot between brokers, so test them on yours.
All four markets together (same test, Medium): +301%, maximum equity drawdown 9.1%, profit factor 1.62, 318 trades, about 40 a year, and every calendar year profitable (2019 +12.4%, 2020 +10.2%, 2021 +29.3%, 2022 +34.9%, 2023 +17.5%, 2024 +12.3%, 2025 +38.2%, 2026 to October +1.9%). To be clear about how they were chosen: Bitcoin and Ethereum were added after the unchanged settings were tested on 15 more markets, where they were among the best.
Not fitted to one market: the same settings were also tested on 15 other markets without any change. They were positive on 12 of them (see the screenshot); the euro and pound against the dollar were the clearest losers.
Prop-firm accounts
The backtest trades were replayed from each of 2 491 start days since January 2019, under a 10% maximum loss and a 5% daily loss limit, for firms without a time limit:
- Medium: reached a +8% target from every start day and never broke the loss limit; median 8 months
- High: reached +8% from 82% of start days, median 3 months; 18% broke the 10% limit first
- Low: never broke the loss limit, but slowly (median 17 months)
The daily loss and maximum drawdown protection below can be set to your firm's numbers.
Features
- Attach to one chart, any symbol and timeframe. Gemina finds your broker's gold and USD/JPY symbols automatically (XAUUSD, GOLD, USDJPY, with any suffix). You can also type the names or switch one market off.
- Risk per trade: Low 0.5%, Medium 1%, High 2%, or your own percentage of balance. The lot is calculated from the stop distance, so every trade risks the same share of the account.
- Small accounts: when the broker's minimum lot is more than the chosen risk, Gemina trades the minimum lot only while its loss stays inside a limit you set (default 1.5% of balance), and otherwise skips the trade and says so.
- Optional account protection for prop-firm style rules: a daily loss limit (close and pause until tomorrow) and a maximum drawdown limit (close and stop), both measured on account equity.
- Checks spread, broker stop levels, trading hours and free margin before every order.
- Survives restarts: open trades are recognized by magic number and managed as before.
- On-chart panel: the state and open position of each market, and the reason for any skipped trade.
- No DLL, no internet connection, no external files.
Prefer to place the trades yourself?
Gemina Signals (same author) shows the same trades on your chart, with their stop loss and take profit, and alerts you when a new one comes.
Recommendations
- A broker with gold and USD/JPY; any account type, hedging or netting.
- 1 000 USD or more for the risk settings to work as chosen; smaller accounts run on the minimum lot with the limit above.
- Run it on a VPS so it is online all week.
- Test it yourself: in the Strategy Tester choose your broker's gold or USD/JPY symbol, any timeframe, from 2019, deposit 10 000 USD, "every tick based on real ticks". Both markets are tested together in one run.
Important
- Past results do not guarantee future results.
- Months with one or two trades, or none, are normal.
- Gold carries most of the result. USD/JPY adds trades and smooths the curve; on its own it has been the weaker of the two.
