JazzuFX Gold Breakout is a rules-based breakout system for Gold (XAUUSD) on the M5 chart. It trades the previous day's pivot levels in the direction of the 200-period EMA, one position at a time, with a stop loss on every trade.
There is no grid, no martingale, and no averaging into a losing position anywhere in the logic.
RISK CONTROLS
- A stop loss on every position, placed at entry
- Position size never increases after a loss
- Size comes from a risk percentage of your balance. If the broker's minimum lot would risk more than the percentage you set, the trade is declined rather than taken at higher risk
- A daily loss breaker halts new entries once the day is down by a set percentage (default 3 percent)
- A time stop closes any position still open after a set number of bars
- No orders outside the symbol's trading session or around high-impact USD news
HOW IT TRADES
Entries are prior-day pivot breakouts of R1 or S1, filtered by the 200-period EMA trend. Each signal then passes a bar-state filter that refuses trigger bars measured as weak, inactive or spread-hostile, so a large share of raw breakout signals are declined rather than traded.
Stops are scaled to volatility at 2 x ATR. At the first target the EA holds toward a second target if volatility has expanded since entry, and takes the first target if it has not. A breakeven lock moves the stop once a trade is halfway to target.
BACKTEST RESULTS
Two windows on identical settings, every-tick modelling, 99 percent history quality, 10,000 USD at 1 percent risk per trade.

Both runs were produced on an XM Ultra Low Standard account using the GOLD# symbol in MetaTrader 5, at 1:100 leverage. Spread matters more for this system than for most. The net result per trade is small next to the spread paid on each one, so an account with wider spreads can change these figures substantially. Run the Strategy Tester on your own broker's data before committing to it.
Higher leverage does not increase position size or profit here. Size is set by your risk percentage and the stop distance. Leverage only decides how much margin a position ties up, which matters on a small account where margin can block a trade the risk settings would otherwise allow.
This strategy makes money when Gold trends and gives it back when Gold ranges. The 11-year run spent years below its starting balance before recovering. The win rate looks high because the stop is wider than the target by design, so it has to be high simply to break even. The edge is thin and it depends on the regime. The second screenshot is the full cycle, not the flattering part of it. Past results do not indicate future results.
ACCOUNT SIZE
Your account size decides what risk per trade is actually achievable, because the broker's minimum lot sets a floor the EA cannot go below.
On Gold the stop is 2 x ATR. With a 0.01 minimum lot that puts roughly 10 to 45 USD at risk per trade, with a median near 18 USD measured over 2026 data.
What that means at a 0.01 minimum lot:
- 2,000 USD and above - the tested 1 percent risk is achievable on most trades
- 1,000 USD - 1 percent is achievable on some trades. In testing the EA declined about 84 percent of its signals rather than exceed the limit
- 500 USD - the minimum lot alone risks roughly 2 to 9 percent per trade
- 200 USD - the minimum lot risks roughly 5 to 21 percent per trade, and the worst trade in testing would have risked more than half the account. Six losses in a row is an ordinary outcome for this system, not a tail event
If your broker offers a 0.001 minimum lot on Gold, every figure above divides by ten and a 200 USD account behaves like a 2,000 USD one. The EA reads the broker's minimum lot and volume step directly, so it adapts with no configuration.
By default the EA declines any trade whose minimum lot would exceed your RiskPercent (input: SkipIfRiskExceeded). You can switch that off and take the trades anyway, but no setting can make a small account risk less than the broker's minimum lot allows.
WHO IT SUITS
Gold traders whose account is large enough to carry 1 percent risk at their broker's minimum lot - about 2,000 USD at 0.01 lots, or about 200 USD at 0.001 lots - who want a rules-based breakout system with hard risk limits, and who would rather reproduce a seller's numbers in the Strategy Tester than take their word for it. The defaults shipped here are the tested configuration.
WHO IT DOES NOT SUIT
Anyone looking for steady monthly income or a smooth equity curve, or trading an account too small for their broker's minimum lot, where every trade would risk far more than intended.
REQUIREMENTS
- Symbol: Gold / XAUUSD, M5 chart
- Account: large enough to carry 1 percent risk at your broker's minimum lot - see Account Size above
- Leverage 1:100 or higher
- A low-spread account; the EA declines entries when the spread is wide
- Netting or hedging, any broker
- The terminal must stay online whenever the market is open, 24 hours a day, five days a week. A VPS is recommended
Stop loss and take profit are held by the broker and stay active even if your terminal is off. The breakeven lock, the sequential exit, the time stop and the news handling are managed by the EA, so they only run while the terminal is on. Leaving it offline does not remove your stop, but it does leave a position unmanaged.
MAIN INPUTS
- AutoConfigBySymbol - applies the tested configuration from the chart symbol. Leave true for Gold. The manual strategy inputs only apply when this is false.
- SizingMode - FIXED_LOT or RISK_PERCENT. Default RISK_PERCENT.
- RiskPercent - percent of balance risked per trade. Default 1.0.
- LotSize - the fixed size used when SizingMode is FIXED_LOT.
- SkipIfRiskExceeded - decline a trade when the minimum lot would exceed RiskPercent. Default true. Set false to take it anyway at higher risk.
- StopLoss_ATR_x - stop distance as a multiple of ATR. Default 2.0.
- RewardVsRisk - profit target relative to risk. Default 1.0.
- UseSequentialExit - hold toward the second target when volatility expands.
- SeqExit_ATRratio - the volatility ratio that triggers the hold. Default 1.11.
- UseBreakeven / BE_TriggerR / BE_LockR - breakeven lock and its trigger point.
- UseMOSFilter - the bar-state filter that refuses weak trigger bars.
- UseDailyBreaker / DailyMaxLossPct - daily loss breaker. Default 3 percent.
- CloseTradeAfterBars - time stop, in bars. Default 48, four hours on M5.
- MaxSpreadAllowed_USD - skip entries above this spread. Default 0.50.
- UseNewsBlackout / NewsBlackoutMin - block entries near high-impact USD news.
- UseNewsAutoFlatten / NewsFlattenMin - optional, off by default: close an open position before a high-impact event.
- AutoTrade - true trades automatically, false alerts you to decide.
- SlippagePoints - maximum accepted price deviation. Default 20.
- MagicNumber - the ID tag applied to this EA's trades.
SETUP
- After purchase the EA appears under Market in the MetaTrader 5 Navigator. Drag it onto a chart from there.
- Open a Gold M5 chart. Symbol names differ between brokers - XAUUSD, GOLD, GOLD#, GOLDmicro. The EA recognises any symbol whose name contains XAU or GOLD and applies the tested configuration on its own.
- In the dialog that opens, tick Allow Algo Trading.
- Switch on the AutoTrading button in the terminal toolbar. Nothing is placed without it.
- Leave AutoConfigBySymbol true and the rest of the defaults alone to run the tested configuration. Set RiskPercent to the risk you actually want to carry.
- Run one chart only. A second instance on the same symbol with the same MagicNumber will interfere with the first.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Roughly 20 to 30 trades a month on Gold M5 in the tested configuration
- One position at a time, never more
- Quiet stretches are normal. The bar-state filter plus the spread, session and news checks decline a large share of raw signals by design
- The on-chart panel shows why the EA is or is not taking the next signal: trend, trigger distance, bar state, news countdown and the resulting verdict
TESTING IT FIRST
Open the Strategy Tester, choose your broker's Gold symbol on M5, and leave every input at its default to reproduce the configuration in the screenshots. Your numbers will not match exactly, because spread and symbol specification differ between brokers. That difference is the point of testing it yourself.
FAQ
It is not placing any trades. Why?
Work through these in order: the AutoTrading button is off; the account is too small, so the minimum lot would exceed RiskPercent and trades are declined (see Account Size); the spread is above MaxSpreadAllowed_USD; the daily loss breaker has already tripped today; a high-impact USD news window is open; or there is simply no valid breakout. The on-chart panel tells you which one applies.
Which symbol and timeframe?
Gold on M5. Signals are always calculated on the timeframe set by ChartTimeframe, M5 by default, regardless of which chart you attach it to.
Can I run it on EURUSD or other pairs?
It was designed and tested on Gold only. It will run elsewhere without errors, but nothing about the configuration was tested there and the description makes no claim about it.
Is it a martingale or grid system?
No. One position at a time, a stop loss on every trade, and position size never increases after a loss.
Do I need a VPS?
Recommended. Your stop loss and take profit sit with the broker and survive a disconnect, but the breakeven lock, sequential exit, time stop and news handling only run while the terminal is on.
Why does my own backtest differ from the screenshots?
Spread, symbol specification and history quality vary by broker. The screenshots were produced on an XM Ultra Low Standard account using GOLD# at 1:100 leverage.
Can I increase RiskPercent?
Yes, and on a small account you may have to in order to trade at all. Read the Account Size section first, because the drawdowns scale with it.
Will higher leverage make more profit?
No. Position size comes from your risk percentage and the stop distance, not from leverage.
Can I run it on several charts at once?
Use one chart per symbol. If you run more than one instance, give each a different MagicNumber.
How many activations do I get?
Ten.
The author runs this EA on a live account, but a few weeks of live trades is not evidence. Judge it on the backtests above and on your own testing.
