What is it?
DONCHIAN VOLUME MATRIX is an automated Expert Advisor (EA) for MetaTrader 5, specifically designed to trade the XAU/USD (Spot Gold) pair using an intelligent grid strategy with high-precision technical filters. It combines three complementary tools—Donchian Channel, Williams Fractals, and Volume Filter—to identify high-probability entries in trending markets, avoiding trading in unfavorable market conditions.
Indicators and Logic
The EA uses the 20-period Donchian Channel as the central axis of the strategy. This channel defines the maximum and minimum price range of the last N candlesticks, generating a dynamic reference zone divided into three levels: ceiling (resistance), floor (support), and midline (directional bias). Buy orders are only enabled when the price is trading above the midline, and sell orders when it's trading below, ensuring that each order is aligned with the current market momentum.
As a confirmation filter, Williams Fractals are incorporated, which identify structural turning points in the price. A recent bearish fractal confirms support before opening a buy order; a recent bullish fractal confirms resistance before opening a sell order. This significantly reduces entries in areas of noise or sideways consolidation.
The volume filter acts as a final validator: orders are only executed when the current volume exceeds the average of the last 14 periods multiplied by a configurable factor (1.2x by default), prioritizing periods of real liquidity in the market.
Risk and Equity Management
The EA includes a comprehensive risk management system:
Fixed lot size or calculated as a percentage of risk relative to the balance
Configurable dynamic stop loss in pips
Progressive trailing stop with threshold activation and automatic reduction as the trade progresses (optional aggressive mode)
Automatic break-even upon reaching the configured target
Automatic closure based on profit target in pips
Maximum spread control to prevent executions during periods of high volatility or abnormal spreads
Limit on simultaneous pending orders per direction
Configurable time filter to trade only during peak trading sessions
Visual Panel — Matrix Style
The EA includes a real-time dashboard integrated into the chart, with a Matrix aesthetic in cyan tones on a blue-black background. It continuously displays the balance, equity, free margin, drawdown, open and pending positions, P&L in USD and pips, Donchian Channel values (High/Mid/Low), status of active fractals, current vs. average volume, and server time.
