How ALYAS WaveTrend Works

ALYAS WaveTrend analyzes price momentum using a multi-stage smoothing process.

The indicator first calculates the Typical Price from High, Low and Close prices. It then applies exponential smoothing to create the WaveTrend calculation and generates the primary WT1 line. A moving average of WT1 is used to create the WT2 signal line. Innlimt tekst

The interaction between WT1 and WT2 helps visualize changes in momentum:

Bullish crossover: WT1 crosses above WT2.

Bearish crossover: WT1 crosses below WT2.

These crossovers can then be combined with the Extreme Zone Filter and optional EMA Trend Filter to create more selective BUY and SELL signals.

Overbought & Oversold Analysis

The indicator includes dedicated overbought and oversold reference levels.

By default:

Overbought: +60
Oversold: -60

When the Extreme Zone Filter is enabled, a bullish crossover must interact with the oversold area to qualify for a BUY signal, while a bearish crossover must interact with the overbought area to qualify for a SELL signal. Innlimt tekst

This can help traders focus on momentum crossovers occurring around more extended oscillator conditions instead of displaying every crossover.

Optional EMA Trend Filter

ALYAS WaveTrend also includes an optional EMA trend filter.

When enabled:

BUY signals require price to be above the selected EMA.

The default EMA period is 200, but it can be customized from the indicator settings. The filter is optional and disabled by default. Innlimt tekst

This gives traders the flexibility to use WaveTrend independently or combine momentum signals with a broader trend condition.

BUY & SELL Signal System

ALYAS WaveTrend provides clear visual arrows directly inside the oscillator window.

A potential BUY signal is generated when WT1 crosses above WT2 and all enabled filters are satisfied.

Traders can choose whether signals are evaluated using closed candles only, allowing the indicator to be adapted to different trading preferences.
