Most prop firm challenges are not lost on strategy. They are lost on number management.
The rules are simple: a daily loss limit and a maximum overall drawdown. Stay inside both, and at least you never get stopped out of the challenge itself.
Yet traders keep failing on the same three blind spots.
Blind spot 1: Your risk changes from trade to trade.
A bigger lot "because today feels good", a slightly bigger one "to win it back".
When position size depends on mood, a losing streak drains the account faster than your plan assumed.
The fix is boring on purpose: decide your risk as a fixed % of balance, and calculate the lot from your stop loss distance — every time, no exceptions.
Blind spot 2: You don't know, right now, how much more you can lose today.
Watching only the floating loss of open positions is not enough.
What happens if your pending orders fill and everything runs to its stop?
Pending orders without a stop loss are the ones most often missing from the total.
You should always be able to answer: "If everything hits its SL, how much room is left before the daily limit?"
Blind spot 3: Commissions are not in your math.
Round-trip commissions look small per trade, but scalping stacks them up.
The slow drift between "planned loss" and "actual loss" usually comes from here.
Count risk — and your R multiples when you review — in money terms, commissions included.
Closing
All three can be done with paper and a calculator before each entry.
It is just tiring, and mistakes happen exactly when you are in a hurry.
That is why I built a tool for myself, now published as "Smart SL Scalp Assistant Pro":
draw the SL line and the lot is calculated, the remaining room to each limit is always on screen, and orders that would break a rule are stopped before they are placed.
A free demo is on the Market page.
Before paying for a challenge, run it in the Strategy Tester (visual mode) and check where your own blind spots are.
Note: this is a semi-automated manager, not a trading robot — entries are your decisions, and it does not guarantee profits.
