Technical Analysis — October 6, 2026

Overview

Today’s main themes are short-term rebounds in the euro and New Zealand dollar, aligned buy signals in USD/JPY and BTC, and strengthening sell signals in crude oil.

EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and NZD/USD now show Strong Buy ratings from the short-term through the hourly timeframe. Rebounds have broadened in the euro and New Zealand dollar, which were previously weak. However, these pairs retain Strong Sell ratings on the daily timeframe.

USD/JPY maintains Strong Buy ratings across all timeframes. In contrast, USD/CHF’s 15-minute rating has shifted to Strong Sell, breaking the previous alignment of buy signals across all timeframes. The dollar can no longer be treated as uniformly bullish across currency pairs.

Among yen crosses, EUR/JPY and NZD/JPY have reversed to Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe. GBP/JPY and CHF/JPY have Neutral daily ratings, distinguishing them from other yen crosses that retain daily Strong Sell ratings.

In commodities, spot gold and gold futures have improved to Strong Buy on the hourly timeframe. Silver also retains hourly buy signals, although daily Strong Sell ratings persist. WTI crude oil shows Strong Sell from the 15-minute through the daily timeframe, while natural gas is undergoing a short-term correction against bullish higher timeframes.

BTC’s short-term sell signals have cleared, leaving Strong Buy ratings across all timeframes. Among equity indices, the Nikkei 225 maintains Strong Buy across all timeframes, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 retain Strong Buy ratings on the higher timeframes. European indices also show hourly improvement, but their daily ratings remain mixed.

Key Changes Since the Previous Update

EUR/USD has risen from the previous 1.1197 to 1.1245. Its short-term and hourly ratings have reversed to Strong Buy after previously showing Strong Sell across all timeframes. NZD/USD has also risen from 0.5590 to 0.5606, with a similar shift in ratings.

EUR/JPY and NZD/JPY have likewise changed from Strong Sell to Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe. GBP/JPY’s daily rating has improved from Strong Sell to Neutral.

USD/CHF previously showed Strong Buy across all timeframes. Its 5-minute rating is now Neutral, its 15-minute rating is Strong Sell, and its hourly rating has weakened to Buy. The daily Strong Buy rating remains intact.

AUD/NZD has fallen from the previous 1.2450 to 1.2432. Its alignment of Strong Buy ratings across all timeframes has broken down: the 5-minute and 15-minute ratings are now Strong Sell, while the hourly rating is Sell. The correction against the daily Strong Buy rating has broadened.

WTI crude oil has fallen from the previous 90.35 to 87.76. Its 15-minute rating has shifted from Neutral to Strong Sell, while the hourly and daily ratings have strengthened from Sell to Strong Sell.

BTC has risen from the previous 85919.0 to 86079.0. Short-term Strong Sell ratings have reversed to Strong Buy, while the hourly rating has improved from Buy to Strong Buy.

Foreign Exchange

EUR/USD — 1.1245

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The pair has shifted from Strong Sell across all timeframes to a rebound extending through the hourly timeframe. Moving averages and technical indicators also agree on a buy bias from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. Even when considering selling rallies, there is little reason to rush into shorts while hourly buy signals remain intact.

GBP/USD — 1.3247

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous short-term Strong Sell ratings and Neutral hourly rating have improved to Strong Buy. Moving averages and technical indicators both show Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

The rebound is more clearly aligned than before, but the daily downtrend continues. A bullish daily reversal has yet to be confirmed, so the focus is whether the hourly rebound persists.

USD/JPY — 158.22

All timeframes show Strong Buy.

As in the previous update, moving averages and technical indicators both show Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe. On the daily timeframe, moving averages show Buy and indicators show Strong Buy, maintaining bullish alignment.

The pair remains a candidate for buying dips. If a short-term correction develops, watch whether the hourly Strong Buy rating holds and short-term ratings realign to the buy side.

USD/CHF — 0.8316

The 5-minute rating is Neutral, the 15-minute is Strong Sell, the hourly is Buy, and the daily is Strong Buy.

The previous alignment of Strong Buy ratings across all timeframes has broken down. Moving averages and technical indicators agree on a sell bias on the 15-minute timeframe, while the hourly and daily ratings remain bullish.

For buying dips in line with the daily trend, wait for the 15-minute selling pressure to subside and the rating to improve to Buy. Short-term buy signals are less aligned than in USD/JPY.

AUD/USD — 0.6970

The 5-minute rating is Buy, the 15-minute and hourly ratings are Neutral, and the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous hourly Strong Buy rating has weakened to Neutral. On the 15-minute timeframe, Strong Buy signals from moving averages conflict with Sell signals from indicators. Hourly moving averages are Neutral, while indicators show Sell.

A short-term rebound is underway, but hourly buying is less clear than in EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and NZD/USD. Watch whether the hourly signals align to the sell side or improve back to Buy.

NZD/USD — 0.5606

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The pair has reversed from Strong Sell across all timeframes to buy signals on the short-term and hourly timeframes. Moving averages and technical indicators also agree on a buy bias across these timeframes.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. Rather than continuing to sell solely on the basis of the pair’s previous weakness, watch for hourly buy signals to weaken.

Yen Crosses and Relative Currency Strength

EUR/JPY — 177.92

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous alignment of Strong Sell ratings across all timeframes has broken down. Moving averages and technical indicators now both show Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. Its previous status as a sell-the-rally candidate needs reassessment, with little reason to rush into shorts while hourly buying persists.

GBP/JPY — 209.60

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Neutral.

The previous 15-minute Buy rating has improved to Strong Buy, while the daily rating has improved from Strong Sell to Neutral. Moving averages and technical indicators both show Strong Buy from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

However, daily moving averages show Sell, while indicators show Strong Buy. Whether short-term buying can continue and whether the daily conflict resolves should be assessed separately.

CHF/JPY — 190.28

The 5-minute rating is Buy, the 15-minute and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, and the daily rating is Neutral.

The previous short-term Strong Sell ratings have reversed to buy signals, while the hourly rating has improved from Neutral to Strong Buy. Hourly moving averages and technical indicators both show Strong Buy.

On the daily timeframe, Sell signals from moving averages conflict with Buy signals from indicators. Hourly buying is now clear, but bullish alignment has yet to extend to the daily timeframe.

AUD/JPY — 110.27

The 5-minute and 15-minute ratings are Buy, the hourly is Strong Buy, and the daily is Strong Sell.

The hourly Strong Buy rating remains unchanged. The 5-minute rating has improved from Neutral to Buy, while the 15-minute rating has weakened from Strong Buy to Buy.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. Watch whether hourly buying remains intact. For selling rallies in line with the daily trend, wait for the rebound to lose momentum.

NZD/JPY — 88.70

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

Short-term and hourly ratings have reversed after previously showing Strong Sell across all timeframes. On the 15-minute and hourly timeframes, moving averages and technical indicators both show Strong Buy.

Together with NZD/USD, this confirms a short-term rebound in the New Zealand dollar. However, daily weakness remains, so this should be distinguished from a bullish reversal extending to the higher timeframes.

CAD/JPY — 110.86

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous Neutral 5-minute rating and Buy 15-minute rating have improved to Strong Buy. Buy signals are now more consistently aligned from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

The daily bias still favors selling rallies, but the rebound currently extends through the hourly timeframe. Watch for short-term buy signals to weaken and the hourly rating to turn bearish.

EUR/GBP — 0.8489

The 5-minute rating is Sell, the 15-minute is Buy, the hourly is Strong Buy, and the daily is Strong Sell.

The previous alignment of Strong Sell ratings across all timeframes has broken down. Hourly moving averages and technical indicators now agree on a buy bias, indicating a short-term rebound in the euro against sterling.

Daily moving averages and technical indicators both remain Strong Sell. The euro’s short-term improvement should be assessed separately from its persistent relative weakness on the daily timeframe.

AUD/NZD — 1.2432

The 5-minute and 15-minute ratings are Strong Sell, the hourly is Sell, and the daily is Strong Buy.

The previous alignment of Strong Buy ratings across all timeframes has broken down. Short-term moving averages and technical indicators both point to selling, while Strong Sell signals from hourly indicators are weighing on the hourly rating.

Even when considering buying dips in line with the daily trend, wait for hourly selling to subside and buy signals to return from the 15-minute timeframe upward. The Australian dollar’s previous advantage has weakened in the short term.

EUR/CHF — 0.9351

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous hourly Strong Sell rating has reversed to Strong Buy. Moving averages and technical indicators agree on a buy bias from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. The euro’s recovery has broadened against the dollar, yen, and Swiss franc, but daily weakness has yet to be resolved.

Commodities

Gold — 4153.85

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous Neutral hourly rating has improved to Strong Buy, while hourly moving averages have shifted from Sell to Buy. Buy signals are aligned from the short-term through the hourly timeframe.

This is a rebound against the daily bearish bias. Although the price is below the previous 4161.46, the hourly technical rating has improved. The price change and current technical signals should be assessed separately.

Gold Futures — 4181.55

The 5-minute, 15-minute, and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, while the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous Neutral hourly rating has shifted into line with short-term buy signals. Hourly moving averages show Buy, while indicators show Strong Buy.

Both spot gold and futures show a clear rebound extending through the hourly timeframe. Even when considering selling rallies in line with the daily trend, wait for hourly buying to weaken.

Silver — 61.0795

The 5-minute rating is Neutral, the 15-minute and hourly ratings are Strong Buy, and the daily rating is Strong Sell.

The previous 5-minute Strong Buy rating has weakened to Neutral. On that timeframe, Strong Buy signals from moving averages conflict with Sell signals from indicators, while buy signals remain intact on the 15-minute and hourly timeframes.

Within the rebound against the daily bearish bias, short-term alignment has weakened. Watch whether the 5-minute rating returns to Buy or buy signals on the 15-minute and higher timeframes also begin to weaken.

Silver Futures — 61.410

The 5-minute rating is Neutral, the 15-minute is Strong Buy, the hourly is Buy, and the daily is Strong Sell.

The previous 5-minute Strong Buy rating has weakened to Neutral, while the hourly rating has softened from Strong Buy to Buy. On the 5-minute timeframe, Strong Buy signals from moving averages conflict with Strong Sell signals from indicators.

WTI Crude Oil — 87.76

The 5-minute rating is Buy, while the 15-minute, hourly, and daily ratings are Strong Sell.

The previous Neutral 15-minute rating has shifted to Strong Sell, while the hourly and daily ratings have strengthened from Sell to Strong Sell. Moving averages and technical indicators agree on a sell bias from the 15-minute timeframe upward.

The primary bias favors selling rallies. However, Strong Buy signals from the 5-minute indicators are driving a short-term rebound. Watch for that buying to weaken and short-term signals to realign to the sell side.

Natural Gas — 3.074

The 5-minute and 15-minute ratings are Strong Sell, the hourly is Strong Buy, and the daily is Buy.

The previous Neutral daily rating has improved to Buy, resolving the conflict between moving averages and technical indicators. Meanwhile, short-term ratings have reversed from buy signals to Strong Sell.

This is a short-term correction against bullish higher timeframes. For buying dips, wait for 15-minute selling to subside and the rating to realign with the hourly buy bias.

BTC/USD — 86079.0

All timeframes show Strong Buy.

The previous 5-minute and 15-minute Strong Sell ratings have cleared, bringing them into line with the daily bullish bias. The hourly rating has also improved from Buy to Strong Buy, with moving averages and technical indicators pointing to buying across all timeframes.

The primary bias favors buying dips. If a short-term correction develops, watch whether buy signals on the 15-minute and hourly timeframes remain intact.

Equity Indices

Dow Jones Industrial Average — 51267.90

The 5-minute rating is Strong Sell, the 15-minute is Buy, the hourly is Strong Buy, and the daily is Strong Sell.

The previous Neutral hourly rating has improved to Strong Buy. Meanwhile, the 5-minute rating has shifted from Buy to Strong Sell, indicating a short-term correction.

This is an hourly rebound against the daily bearish bias. It should be assessed separately from the bullish higher timeframes in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, with the focus on whether hourly buying persists.

S&P 500 — 7773.95

The 5-minute rating is Strong Sell, while the 15-minute, hourly, and daily ratings are Strong Buy.

Strong Buy ratings remain intact on the higher timeframes, but the 5-minute rating has shifted from Buy to Strong Sell. Both moving averages and technical indicators point to selling on the 5-minute timeframe.

The previous Neutral hourly rating has improved to Strong Buy, while the daily rating has improved from Strong Sell to Neutral. Hourly moving averages and technical indicators agree on a buy bias.

Trading Strategy

Candidates for Buying Dips

USD/JPY, BTC, and the Nikkei 225 show Strong Buy across all timeframes. Watch whether bullish alignment remains intact after short-term corrections.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 show Strong Buy on the hourly and daily timeframes. For the S&P 500, watch whether the 5-minute Strong Sell rating clears. For the Nasdaq 100, watch whether the Neutral 5-minute rating improves to Buy.

USD/CHF and natural gas also have bullish higher timeframes, but their 15-minute ratings are Strong Sell. Wait for short-term selling to clear and ratings to realign with the hourly buy bias.

AUD/NZD has a daily Strong Buy rating, but selling extends through the hourly timeframe. When considering buying dips, the priority is to wait for hourly selling to subside.

Candidates for Selling Rallies

WTI crude oil shows Strong Sell on the 15-minute, hourly, and daily timeframes. Watch for the 5-minute rebound to weaken and signals to realign to the sell side.

EUR/USD, GBP/USD, NZD/USD, EUR/JPY, NZD/JPY, AUD/JPY, CAD/JPY, EUR/GBP, EUR/CHF, gold, and silver have daily Strong Sell ratings. However, hourly buy signals remain intact, so selling in line with the daily trend calls for waiting until the rebound loses momentum.

The Dow, UK 100, and French CAC 40 also have daily Strong Sell ratings but bullish hourly ratings. Rather than relying solely on short-term sell signals, watch whether selling returns to the hourly timeframe as well.

Instruments Awaiting Directional Alignment

AUD/USD has Neutral ratings on the 15-minute and hourly timeframes. Watch whether short-term buying extends to the hourly timeframe or signals align with the daily bearish bias.

GBP/JPY, CHF/JPY, and the German DAX have Strong Buy hourly ratings and Neutral daily ratings. Watch whether improvement from the short-term through the hourly timeframe extends to the daily timeframe.

Instruments rebounding against daily sell signals require a different assessment from buy-the-dip candidates, with the intended trading timeframe clearly defined.

Key Points to Watch

The previous broad selling in the euro and New Zealand dollar has shifted to short-term rebounds, while BTC’s short-term correction has cleared. Meanwhile, AUD/NZD’s bullish alignment has broken down, and crude oil’s sell signals have strengthened. Current alignment across timeframes should take priority over carrying forward the previous strength and weakness rankings.

Many currency pairs, along with gold and silver, now show buy signals from the short-term through the hourly timeframe that conflict with daily sell signals. The next decision point is whether hourly rebounds continue or prices resume moving in the daily trend’s direction.

Long positions in EUR/USD, EUR/JPY, and EUR/CHF create overlapping exposure to euro strength. Long positions in NZD/USD and NZD/JPY, together with a short position in AUD/NZD, share exposure to New Zealand dollar strength. Buying USD/JPY and multiple yen crosses also creates overlapping exposure to yen weakness. Diversification should therefore be assessed by shared currency exposure, rather than by the number of positions alone.
