The Jurik Moving Average (JMA) is a sophisticated, adaptive moving average designed to reduce lag while maintaining smoothness. Unlike traditional moving averages (e.g., SMA, EMA), JMA adjusts dynamically to market volatility, making it more responsive to price changes. It’s particularly useful in trading for identifying trends and generating signals with less noise.
Input Parameters:- inpJmaPeriod (default: 14): The period for calculating the JMA and ATR.
- inpJmaPhase (default: 0): Controls the JMA’s responsiveness (range: -100 to +100). Higher values make it more responsive but less smooth.
- inpPrice (default: PRICE_CLOSE): The price type used for calculations (e.g., close, open, high, low, median, typical, or weighted).
Trading with the Indicator
- Trend Following:
- Green JMA Line: Indicates an uptrend. Consider holding or entering long positions.
- Crimson JMA Line: Indicates a downtrend. Consider holding or entering short positions.
- Use the JMA’s direction to confirm the trend before entering trades.
- Buy/Sell Signals:
- Buy Signal (Green Up Arrow): Enter a long position when an up arrow appears, indicating the JMA has shifted from a downtrend to an uptrend. Confirm with other indicators (e.g., support levels, RSI) to avoid false signals.
- Sell Signal (Red Down Arrow): Enter a short position when a down arrow appears, indicating a shift from an uptrend to a downtrend. Confirm with resistance levels or momentum indicators.
- Volatility Adaptation:
- The ATR adaptation makes the JMA more responsive during volatile periods (e.g., news events) and smoother during quiet periods. This helps avoid whipsaws in choppy markets.
- Stop-Loss and Take-Profit:
- Place stop-losses below recent swing lows (for buys) or above swing highs (for sells).
- Use ATR multiples (e.g., 2x ATR) for stop-loss or take-profit levels to account for volatility.
- Timeframes:
- Use on higher timeframes (e.g., H1, H4, D1) for more reliable signals
