What's causing MT5 to drop around 200 times every 24 hours? - page 7

How exactly do you enter into VPS and leave it? Make sure you do not close user session when you leave.

The platform is open all the time whether I'm in the vps or not.

I don't know any other way to get into the server other than to click on remote desktop connection and put in the user name and password and, to close out, click the x on the top middle of the bar, not on the x in the upper right hand corner that closes the platform.

You did not answer (even after previous post edition there is no info how you leave VPS). The effect of switching between the servers is obvious, and I did not suggest you should do it.
My apologies, you're right, I was looking at the message you were replying about and didn't understand the context of your questions.  I went back and edited the answer.

Ok, this sounds correct.

Than I have a crazy idea, if VPS Windows configuration includes an enabled power-saving mode (sleep after unattended timeout) or something similar, which is of course a strange thing for a server, but I'm asking just in case.

Yes, I had the same thought, but only found a couple of things to check.  The one I remember is the ethernet controller:

Go to device manager, network adaptors, right click on Ethernet controller, click on properties and then power management, remove check mark for allow the computer to turn off this device to conserve power.

I remembered that I had turned this off for my laptop years ago, but don't recall why and thought maybe it had to do with MT4.  Anyway, I tested the idea on one of the servers.  It didn't change anything so I put it back.

I'm open to testing other ideas like that if you find something.

try ms powertoys feature "awake".

All vps's that i have used go into some sort of sleep mode or power conserv mode which is dumb considering it is a vm.

Okay, I will try that Sunday evening.  Thank you for the suggestion.  Keep the ideas coming.  Appreciate it.

Is this gateway thing something the VPS company or for the broker has to have set up?  Do you have more information/a weblink so I can look at this more?

thanks!

Your broker has the gateway. To clarify, I say "MT5 gateway" because they only transmit to MT5 from it. I've used them since they were posting delayed "corrections" to position entry and exit prices. They subsequently fixed that but weren't able to transmit commissions through the gateway to MT5. This was all on their end. I'm merely guesstimating that their finicky gateway may operate differently depending on the VPS service used.

FYI... There's one other broker in the U.S. with a working MT5 Futures gateway. I once asked yet another U.S. Futures broker to develop a gateway for MT5, but their techies crashed, burned, and gave up.

I Messaged you the link.

Thank you for the info.  I will take a look at the MT5 gateway link.

Edit:  I read the link.  Makes me wonder if their gateway doesn't like the vps or maybe the ip address because the ip isn't the ip used for signing up for the data.  I have no idea, just throwing out theories.

Well, out of the blue, AMP's MT5 is suddenly working today on all of the different servers I have been testing it on.

It would be good to get a message from AMP providing information on what the issue was and what the fix was, but after denying there was an issue for over a month and wasting 60 hours of my trading time, I doubt anything will be added to the MQL5 knowledge base about this issue.  To me, it appears that they set the platform permanently to the Failover server.  Whatever they did, it made the indicator I bought from MQL5 get dropped off of the platform on the personal computer where things were actually working before.  This is how I know something was done on AMP's end to fix the issue.  Anyway, because of the change, MQL5's system made me replace the indicator and use one of my instances when the indicator is supposed to be on the computer forever with no extra instances used or purchases needed.  Hopefully MQL5 can credit that instance back on to the account.

Thank you to the people who posted actionable ideas on a possible fix.  Thankfully this had nothing to do with my computers or the servers, but I learned a lot of things I didn't know in case there is ever an issue with my computer or a server.  Also, thank you to the server companies for setting up extra servers and testing things.  One of the companies reached out to some other server companies and found that this was an on-going issue for all of them and not just for me.

Many thanks to moderator Alain Verleyen for gathering information from me and asking me questions I didn't know to ask.  @Alain, I appreciate you pushing this to MQ as it seemed to be the only way to get AMP's attention and get the fix done.

AMP Futures, please do better.  The support guys on the front line are getting crushed by not being able to help on an issue so they are just pushing the clients from your chat to your support email and the people answering the support email are just passing your customers right back to the chat system.  You need to put a stop to this circular waste of time and get these hard working people some better answers and a better system.  If someone is barking about the same issue over and over, maybe provide a way for things to be escalated to someone who can get answers and make a customer actually feel heard because things get fixed.  30 days is a ridiculous amount of time for a client to be down.  And, stop denying.  This reaction only pisses people off and then they get on here and voice their opinion about you.  Instead of denying, maybe put a customer service system in place to actually provide customer service when the issue goes beyond the front line guys?

Well, enough of the lecture.  I'm thankful it seems to be good for now, but will update here if it goes bad again.  Now, maybe I can move on to what I started trying to do 30 days ago.

You're welcome, I guess?... to the extent that I helped at all. As if anyone knows what actually happened, let alone who did something. This whole thing reminds me of the "What did we learn?" scene from the movie, Burn After Reading.

Anyway, glad you're up and running again.
