What's causing MT5 to drop around 200 times every 24 hours? - page 12

Hello,

Well, the "jury's out" :) I mean, I went out and rent a VPS, a pretty basic one, with 2 vcores of a (quite old) Xeon with 4GB of ram + Windows Server 2022.. I may say that I was lucky enough for the VPS to come ready with RDP access, so I was up and running fairly quickly.. So I loaded up MT5 with AMP live, 3 symbols on the Market Watch (including MNQ), loaded my EA (which collects quotes at 500ms intervals) and let it run (for about 15 hours so far).. Well, so far zero problems, in fact it is so good I may say I am not really considering MQL VPS for the future :) latency is about 2ms, packet loss is either about  0.02 or 0.. so you get the picture, there must be some problems on your side for sure.. To sum it up

a) I am connected to AMPGlobalUSA-Live; In a comment you have said not to use AMP Global? May I ask why, because this is the only option I am having (I am in Europe) but we are a client of AMP Futures - the cyprus company is gone, if that's what you mean

b) How did you end up with two VPS, having the same problem? Did the one company suggested the other one to try?

c) Something important, I would guess: the VPS had installed a program to keep the PC clock synchronized; this may be crucial, because at the first couple of hours, the sync was really bad - the clock was losing about 1-3secs every 30min.. Now, the "problem" is almost gone, sync is usually about 50ms, but a guess could be that MetaTrader is time-sensitive, and that may have caused the connections problems

d) I accidentally looked at my logs from August where I was connecting my PC from a mobile hotspot.. That period I saw the most lost connections, about 3-4 some days, which says something about the connection quality I suppose

Thank you for doing that.  The biggest question is: Did you get the VPS from a Chicago futures based VPS company as mentioned in one my previous replies?  This is important.  The theory is that this is only happening with VPS in Chicago that are connected to/for/adjacent the futures/exchange.

The clock on my laptop is an hour off compared to the clock is Chicago, but the AMP platform works fine on the laptop.

The VPS is based in Chicago and I have experimented with the time on the VPS and the laptop, changing it from Chicago time to eastern time, testing, no change in how it acts.  I have done this on two computers here at home and two vps.

I checked with the VPS companies and they are not affiliated, white labeled/reseller of the other, etc.  Keep in mind, one of the VPS companies called other Chicago based, futures based VPS companies and found they have the same complaints about AMP's MT5.

Both of the vps I use came RDP ready, nothing needed to be changed.  I have no indicators, just right out of the box for one and the original vps I was using has all of my normal chart setup on it.  No difference in how they act.

Yes, agree, should see syncing with the data provider for a few ms, 3 or 4 times a day.  This is normal.  I am seeing hours and hours of 2 minutes disconnected, a few milliseconds connected, and off again for 2 minutes.

Thank you for the information.  Even though I didn't see any affect on the clock concept, I will ask the VPS company if this exists on their system.

Please keep the ideas coming as I am willing to try just about anything to get this resolved.

I missed responding to one of your thoughts.  My apologies.

Below is the link AMP Futures US provided to me for running the correct MT5.  Please try it out.  It's possible your browser might re-direct you to the non-US link.  I don't know, just want to get your testing as close as possible to my setup.  Thanks very much again for spending your time to help test and figure this out!

Hello,

First of all your welcome, but in any case I saw that as some kind of opportunity as I was planning to rent a VPS some time in the coming months anyways, so I may greet you as well :)

Regarding the VPS it is indeed located in Chicago, quite close to the MetaTrader server I may say, as the ping is ~2ms (while in your case is around 4ms)

As for the clock, I am not referring to the time zone, but how the PC real time clock loses seconds throughout the day.. I came upon it quite the "hard way", as i had some misbehavior in my EA (or bug :) ) which was caused from the fact that the mini PC I am using, which is powered on all day, loses around 4 seconds per day; even worse, some times it is a negative -4secs (but it usually is +4secs).. Having said that, here is the link for the program installed on my VPS (unless the moderator deletes it of course :) )

http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/download.htm

You should have in mind that Windows (in my PC) syncs the clock once per day, so with that program we can set a more frequent update

So, I 'll also PM you the VPS I am using if you would like

Ah!  Good info on the clock.  I will experiment with that on one of the VPS servers.

Yes, please PM me re VPS.  This will give me a good comparison and maybe help get this resolved.

I 've done that already, greets :)

I took a look at those VPS people a few weeks ago.  They don't offer a dedicated server, have been in business just 1 year, less in the Chicago market, but they do have good fast times once the trade order hits their system.

Please let me know what happens if your able to test the US AMP MT5 platform at the download link they gave me.

I checked the link with the download and it mentions "AMPGlobalUSA", so I would guess we are in the same boat so far.. Regarding the dedicated server, I would say this is more than overkill, for retail traders at least, so I believe it would be better to find a VPS which works as expected and you like; but before you may also try the clock sync program I mentioned in the servers you already have

Yes, have the clock running on the VPS that doesn't have my trading set up on it.  Sadly, no change in the situation.  MQL5/MQ seems to think it's AMP based on the idea that more than one VPS is having the same issue.

Good news...

Received an email from AMP stating they have escalated the issue and a second email stating it,

"we will open a support ticket with MQL5 support and our Network team

we will see if we can find the reason/solution."

Hopefully they actually did this and are not just trying to get me off their back.

Yes!

Just need to keep moving forward.  I'm 5 weeks behind where I wanted to be, but hopefully, this will get resolved.
