What's causing MT5 to drop around 200 times every 24 hours? - page 2

There are a lot of variables in the OP's trade server connection. The broker is a CME Futures broker. MT5 cannot natively communicate with the centralized exchange servers, so the broker employs gateway servers. For a simple desktop pc trader, we must consider the client's internet connection (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, mobile data, etc.), the broker's gateway connection, and the broker's exchange connection. This Futures broker previously pushed execution "corrections" out to MT5 users because there were trade reconciliation issues between MT5 and the exchange. More recently, the broker solved the corrections issue by creating said gateway but now commissions don't show in MT5. Now add 2 VPS connections to the mix...

Can you run tracert from the Command Prompt within a VPS?

Maybe install said broker's MT5 terminal on your local pc and see what happens for diagnostic purposes? If there are no issues there, you have isolated the VPS's.

That doesn't make sense to me. Your post is bringing only confusion and bring nothing new or useful.

The issue is clear, we just need to have more information about it.

I have never had the OP's issues with said broker while using a local pc and Ethernet connection.

Also, all 3 of us are local to the U.S. which eliminates any overseas latencies in local pc testing.

The broker denies any issues on their end.  I've used this on dedicated servers from 2 different companies.  Same result.  Over 200 of these drop/connect sequences.

MT5 is not useable in this situation.  Has been going on for weeks and everyone denies it's their problem.

Hello,

I use the same broker and after your comment I head over to my logs and witnessed the same thing, more or less.. It does not happen everyday or with the same frequency or severity (sometimes it can get multiple seconds to reestablish connection), but happens for sure..

FWIW the screenshot you provided especially highlights a differing day, that of last Monday, when the big Amazon AWS outage happened, impacting mainly eastern USA (from the news) - where of course AMP servers reside. So this was meant to be a a different day - not that the problem with AMP+MQL does not exist in general, obviously.. Also, what "puzzled" me was that on Monday there were not many problems on my side (a single loss of connection for half a second maybe) - maybe because I only have 3 symbols on my "Market Watch" (I am just trying to guess why the problem would be so big on your side (except for ..seer luck of course :) )

Interesting. I probably should have mentioned that I'm just outside of New York (eastern US) with a 1000 Mbps Ethernet connection. AMP is in Chicago (midwest US), and the CME (exchange) data center is just outside of Chicago. In this centralized Futures trading environment, all data and orders ultimately go through the CME.

Regarding the luck involved... Just going from New York to Chicago, there are an extensive amount of intermediary ISP networks that show up in my tracert report. I can only imagine being further away from Chicago.

I also just discovered that said broker's forum is having DNS problems--possibly a result of the AWS debacle.

Hello,

I have also forgotten to mention myself that I am on local PC in ..Europe :) This may help explain that there was not much (if any) trouble in my occasion.. All in all, I believe we all "agree" that MQL is not positioned for (very) HFT, so some small, mostly intermittent, problems are not a very big deal breaker (IMO).. still, maybe could be a good idea to query "the other" US broker that offers exchange futures as well :)

I doubt this is an MT5 issue. Seems more an AMP server side issue and from my experience with them (limited though) you will hardly have quality support.

Yeah, the AMP-MT5 gateway is a one-off custom product created and managed by AMP. Another Futures broker attempted to do the same, but their techies crashed and burned. Obviously, it's not easy. There is yet another that succeeded.

For sure. "Discount brokers" = discount support. IMHO, their bread and butter is clearing trades for introducing brokers. Most US CME Futures brokers are merely introducing brokers. Heaven help the trader that doesn't already have CME Futures knowledge.

Regardless of which side the problem originated on, an investigation is impossible without the broker's server logs and a description of the broker's infrastructure. I can only advise the original poster to contact the broker's support team so that they can forward the request to MQ support.

I've noticed it too. They always seem to come at predicable times in the market suspiciously. I'll pull all of my logs, my machine has been online for a month solid.
