This is the user guide for RecoveryPilot - Grid & Zone Recovery EA for MetaTrader 5. Questions are welcome in the product comments.

1. Installation

  1. Buy or rent the product in the MQL5 Market; it installs into MQL5\Experts\Market .
  2. Open a chart (for example EURUSD H1) and drag RecoveryPilot onto it.
  3. Tab "Common": enable Allow Algo Trading. Tab "Inputs": adjust if needed, then OK.
  4. Read the Journal ("Experts" tab): the first tick prints the full level plan and its worst case.

Requirements: MetaTrader 5, hedging account. On a netting account the EA does not start.

2. How a cycle works

A cycle is a basket of positions on one symbol that is managed and closed together. One chart runs at most one cycle at a time. Use a different magic number for every chart.

Grid averaging (default)

  1. A start position opens (signal, button or adopted trade).
  2. If price moves against it by the step, the next level opens in the same direction. The step grows by Step grows per level by factor; from Multiplier applies from level the lot is multiplied.
  3. The basket target is calculated from all positions including swap and commission. With every level the break-even moves closer to price.
  4. Nibbler (from level 4): when the best position is in profit it pays for a partial close of the worst one.
  5. Confirmation: a new level only opens after the last M15 candle closed in the basket direction.

Zone recovery

  1. Example: a buy at the upper zone line. If price reaches the lower line, a sell opens.
  2. Its lot is solved so the whole basket reaches the target at the lower take-profit level.
  3. If price returns to the upper line, a buy opens again with a lot solved for the upper take profit.
  4. When price reaches a take-profit level beyond the zone, everything closes.

Manager mode

Takes over positions on the same symbol once they are Adopt from loss (points) or (money) in loss. Magic to adopt: 0 = manual trades, -1 = all external trades, any other value = exactly that magic number. If the plan does not fit your limits, the trade is not adopted and you receive a push message.

3. Risk controls

LayerWhat it does
Pre-trade simulationThe basket is simulated to its last level; the plan loss must be below Reject cycle if plan loss > % of balance
Auto-fitIf the plan is too large, the number of levels is reduced until it fits (at least one recovery level)
Hard limitsMax. levels, max. lot per position, max. total lots, broker volume limit
MarginChecked with OrderCheck after the order, including hedge margin rules
Limit actionClose basket (known maximum loss) or break-even (no more levels, exit at +/-0)
Basket stopIn % of balance at cycle start or as a fixed amount
Equity brakeEquity falls X % below its high -> basket closed, locked until you press START
Lock timeAfter a basket stop or limit no new cycles for X minutes
Broker-side SL/TPTarget and stop on every position - active even if the VPS is offline

About the mechanics: a recovery EA usually wins small amounts often and loses a larger amount rarely. With the defaults on EURUSD (0.01 lot, 1,000 USD) one cycle targets about 1.20 USD, while the plan loss at the limit is about 150 USD. That is why the plan check exists: you see the price of the bad case before it can happen.

Capital per 0.01 start lot (plan loss <= 20 %, step = ATR(H1) x 2; below this the plan check rejects or auto-fit reduces levels):

PresetEURUSDXAUUSD
Default (grid, 6 levels)approx. 760 USDapprox. 7,550 USD
Zone (5 flips)approx. 140 USDapprox. 1,330 USD

4. Panel

ElementMeaning
StatusREADY | ACTIVE | PAUSED / BREAK-EVEN (yellow) | LOCKED / CLOSING (red, filled)
BASKET P/LOpen result incl. swap and commission, below it "% of target"
TargetAmount at which the basket closes
Break-evenBid price at which the basket is at +/-0
LevelPositions / maximum of this cycle, with progress bar
Next levelPrice and lot of the next level; when full: the stop price (red)
Max. lossWhat the running cycle can lose at most; without a cycle: the plan for the next one
Equity-DDDrawdown from the equity high versus the emergency brake
TodayRealized result of the day and number of cycles

Buttons: BUY / SELL start a cycle manually (same filters as automatic entries) | PAUSE stops new cycles, the running basket is still managed | START releases a pause or the emergency lock | CLOSE closes the basket - click twice within 4 seconds ("SURE?").

Chart lines: grey dashed = break-even | green = target | orange dotted = next level | red dash-dot = plan stop | zone: blue = zone lines, green dashed = zone take profits.

5. Typical questions

See the product comments. The most common: "Why no trade?" - check the Journal for "plan loss > allowed", trading hours, Friday evening rule, daily stop, or PAUSED/LOCKED on the panel.

Note on auto-fit: when auto-fit reduces the number of levels on a smaller account, features that start at a higher level (nibbler from level 4, reduced target from level 5) may not come into play in that cycle.
