The same gold robot on seven brokers: what changes, and the two-minute check before you buy

Run a robot's free demo on your own broker's data and the number that comes back will not be the number on the listing. People take that as a warning sign. Usually it is the most useful thing the test can tell you, and it is worth understanding before you buy any EA, ours or anyone else's.

So this post is one robot, Gold Tempo, on seven brokers' historical data, and what the differences mean for the person deciding whether to buy it.

Same signals, seven fills

To compare brokers fairly you have to hold everything else still. The listing's broker test does that by running version 1.2 on XAUUSD alone, the one gold pair all seven feeds carry. Same binary, same settings, same signals. The only thing that changes is how each broker's prices, spreads and costs fill those signals.

On the five feeds that cover the whole window, the yearly figure runs from 35.5% to 66.6%, on 915 to 966 trades. Two feeds start later, one in March 2023 and one in December 2022, so their figures are not comparable year for year, and they are hatched on the chart. The second row, the highest figure over the whole window, is our own broker. We say that before anyone else does.

Look at the drawdown line under each broker's name as well as the bars. The worst equity drawdown sits between 20.81% and 23.07% on every feed. The risk barely moves, because the risk belongs to the rules: the same stop, the same position size, the same cap on open risk. The return is where the broker shows up, because the return is what is left after every spread and every fill.

Broker names are their owners' trademarks and only name the feed a test ran on. This is not a broker ranking, and TechnoTrader is not affiliated with any of them. Every figure here is a Strategy Tester result.

The other question: which gold pairs your broker carries

Gold Tempo trades six gold pairs from one XAUUSD M15 chart: XAUUSD, XAUEUR, XAUGBP, XAUAUD, XAUJPY and XAUCHF. Not every broker offers all six. Of the seven feeds in the test, two carry all six.

When a cross is missing, the robot skips it, names it in the journal and runs on. Nothing breaks. But with one or two pairs you are running a different robot from the one the listing describes, and the six-pair figures on the listing do not apply to you. Those figures come from the second feed in the chart, because only two of the seven can produce them at all.

The two-minute check before you buy

First, open the symbol list in your terminal and search for the five crosses: XAUEUR, XAUGBP, XAUAUD, XAUJPY and XAUCHF. Your broker may add a suffix to the names. Count how many exist. That count tells you which robot you would actually be running.

Second, run the free demo in your Strategy Tester on your own broker's data: XAUUSD, M15, the default settings, the longest window your broker's history allows. Then compare the profit factor and the drawdown with the listing, not the return. The return will differ, and the first chart shows how far it can move between brokers. The profit factor tells you whether the mechanism survived your broker's costs at all.

Third, read the tester's journal. If a cross was skipped, it is named there.

What this cannot tell you

A backtest on your feed measures your broker's historical prices. It does not measure a live fill: slippage in a fast market, a spread that widens at the wrong moment, a requote. None of that is in any test, ours included.

That is what a live account is for. TechnoTrader EA Showcase runs Gold Tempo at factory defaults, alongside Index Cadence and Bitcoin Interval, on one small real account. It is weeks old, three robots share it, and its curve belongs to the three together, so read it for the plumbing and not for a verdict.

What to do with your result

If your broker carries all six pairs and your profit factor lands near the listing's, you have the robot the page describes, on your own costs. If it carries fewer, decide whether the robot you would actually run is one you want, because it is not the one on the listing. If the profit factor falls apart on your feed, the test has just saved you the price of finding out live.

Either way, the decision gets made on your broker's numbers rather than ours, which is the only way it should be made.
