Which currency is actually moving today? Most traders answer by flipping through a dozen charts. A currency strength meter answers it in one glance — and ours is free, with the formula in plain sight.
Currency Strength Meter 8 Majors Ranking Panel (100% free, full version): https://www.mql5.com/en/market/product/190005
What it does
- Ranks the 8 major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, NZD, CAD, CHF) strongest to weakest, right on your chart.
- Computes strength from all 28 crosses between the majors — not from a single pair, so one outlier quote can't skew the ranking.
- Shows a bar and a percentage for each currency: green when it has gained against the basket, red when it has lost.
- Refreshes every 10 seconds and on every tick.
How the number is made (no black box)
For each of the 28 pairs we take the rate of change over your lookback window (default: 24 bars on H1 = the last day). Each currency's score is the average of its moves against all seven counterparts. That's the whole formula. No smoothing tricks, no proprietary weighting.
How traders use it
The classic play is pairing the strongest currency against the weakest — trends are cleanest when both legs of a pair pull in the same direction. It also works as a pre-entry sanity check: going long a pair whose base currency sits at the bottom of the ranking is a trade against the tide.
One honest caveat
This is a snapshot of recent momentum, not a prediction. A currency at the top has been strong over your lookback window — nothing more. Readings flip quickly around news releases. Use it as context, not as a signal.
Setup
Attach to any chart. If your broker adds a symbol suffix (like ".raw" or "m"), set InpSuffix. Pairs your broker doesn't offer are simply skipped. Lookback, timeframe, position and all colours are configurable.
Completely free — full version, no registration. If it earns a place on your charts, a short review on the product page is what keeps our free tools alive.
