Dual Wave Momentum Oscillator MT5
Dual Wave Momentum Oscillator MT5 is a MetaTrader 5 momentum indicator designed to visualize momentum cycles, overbought and oversold conditions, and the relationship between a fast momentum wave and its smoothed signal wave.
The indicator combines normalized price movement with exponential smoothing to create a responsive momentum oscillator centered around zero.
Two oscillator waves are displayed in a separate indicator window together with configurable overbought and oversold reference levels and a visual momentum difference area.
How It Works
The calculation begins with the average of High, Low and Close prices.
This price series is smoothed using an exponential average to establish a dynamic price center.
The distance between price and this center is then normalized by its smoothed average deviation.
The normalized result is smoothed again to create the primary momentum wave.
A four-bar arithmetic average of the primary wave creates the secondary signal wave.
The difference between the two waves is displayed as a visual area around the zero line.
Potential Bullish Setup
A bullish momentum setup can be observed when the primary momentum wave crosses above the signal wave.
The crossover may be particularly useful for analysis when both waves are located in or near the lower oversold region.
The default lower reference levels are:
Lower Inner: -53
Lower Outer: -60
These conditions indicate a change in momentum, not an automatic trading recommendation.
Potential Bearish Setup
A bearish momentum setup can be observed when the primary momentum wave crosses below the signal wave.
The crossover may be particularly useful for analysis when both waves are located in or near the upper overbought region.
The default upper reference levels are:
Upper Inner: +53
Upper Outer: +60
The indicator does not automatically open trades.

These values are practical starting settings and can be adjusted according to the market and timeframe being analyzed.

Core Calculation
Base Smoothing Period
Controls the first stage of price smoothing and deviation calculation.
Response Smoothing Period
Controls the smoothing applied to the normalized momentum value.
Reference Levels
Upper Outer Level
Defines the outer overbought reference level.
Upper Inner Level
Defines the inner upper reference level.
Lower Outer Level
Defines the outer oversold reference level.
Lower Inner Level
Defines the inner lower reference level.
Display
Show Wave Difference Area
Enables or disables the visual area showing the difference between the primary and signal waves.
Reading the Indicator
The primary wave reacts to changes in normalized price momentum.
The signal wave is a slower four-bar average of the primary wave.
When the primary wave moves above the signal wave, momentum is shifting upward.
When the primary wave moves below the signal wave, momentum is shifting downward.
Crossovers occurring around the outer overbought or oversold regions can be used as additional information when evaluating possible momentum reversals.
The zero line can also be used to observe whether the oscillator is currently operating in positive or negative momentum territory.
Markets and Timeframes
The indicator does not contain a hard-coded symbol or timeframe.
It can therefore be tested on different MetaTrader 5 instruments and chart periods.
Market behavior varies between symbols and timeframes, so users should evaluate the settings for their own trading environment.
Signal and Current Candle Information
The indicator calculates the currently forming candle in real time.
Because High, Low and Close values can change before the candle closes, the oscillator values and crossovers on the current candle can also change before the candle is completed.
Historical closed candles are calculated without future price information.
Performance
The indicator is designed for efficient MetaTrader 5 operation.
Historical calculations are performed during the initial load, while normal real-time updates recalculate only the most recent bars.
It does not require DLL files, WebRequest, external indicators or network connections.
