KestrelEA:

KestrelEA is a multi-strategy grid EA that trades two currency pairs — AUDCAD and EURGBP — using 10 independent strategies running side by side in a single portfolio. Each strategy was built and tuned separately, then combined so that their entries and risk are spread across different market conditions instead of relying on one single edge.

Installation:

Setup takes less than a minute. Make sure both AUDCAD and EURGBP are visible in your Market Watch, then attach the EA to a single chart — any symbol, any timeframe. That is all. The EA manages both pairs and all 10 strategies internally, creates its own indicator handles and controls its own timeframes. There is no need to open multiple charts or configure anything beyond the few inputs listed below.

How it works:

The EA is built on a two-layer signal structure:

The primary signal determines when to enter. Each strategy uses one of the following channel or boundary indicators as its main entry trigger: Bollinger Bands, Keltner Channel, Envelopes or Highest-High / Lowest-Low levels. The majority of the strategies trade a mean-reversion approach — looking for price to reach the outer boundary and trading back toward the mean. Two of the strategies use a trend-following approach instead, entering when price breaks out in the direction of the trend.

The secondary layer is a single indicator filter — each strategy uses exactly one filter on top of the primary signal (such as SMA/EMA slope and crossover, RSI, ADX, MACD, CCI, Stochastic or Momentum). A trade is only opened when both the primary signal and the filter condition are met at the same time. This means every entry is driven by exactly two rules — no more. The logic is kept deliberately simple to avoid over-optimization and curve-fitting. When a strategy works with just two entry conditions across multiple data sets and time periods, it is far more likely to hold up in live trading than one built on a stack of indicators.

Other key features:

  • The EA uses a grid approach with a strictly limited number of grid positions per session — it never opens an unlimited grid.
  • Every position has a stop loss. There is no "naked" position left exposed.
  • Some strategies use a limited martingale, but the multiplier is capped at a maximum of 3 martingale positions — it cannot keep doubling indefinitely.
  • Built-in max daily drawdown protection: if the configured drawdown limit is hit, the EA closes its positions and pauses trading until the next server day.

Optimization & robustness:

The strategies were optimized on the period from 2018 to the present, using an out-of-sample split of 1/2 (half the data kept unseen during optimization to confirm the results hold). On top of that, most of the strategies also remain profitable on data before 2018, which were not part of the optimization window — a sign the logic is not just curve-fitted to one period.

Every strategy was tested across three independent data sets from RoboForex, Pepperstone and The5ers to verify that results are not dependent on a single broker's data feed or spread conditions.

Requirements & recommendations:

  • Minimum deposit: 1000 USD / EUR (hard minimum).
  • Recommended deposit: 2000 USD / EUR for more comfortable risk handling.
  • Do not risk more than 1.5% per trade. With martingale layering on top of the initial position, higher risk values can lead to excessive exposure. Keeping the risk at or below 1.5% gives the grid enough room to work without putting the account under unnecessary pressure.
  • Account type: hedging account, both pairs (AUDCAD and EURGBP) available from your broker.

Inputs:

The EA is designed to run out of the box — all strategy logic, grid spacing, stop losses, martingale and entry rules are pre-configured internally per strategy. The user-facing inputs are intentionally kept minimal:

=== general ===

  • magic — the magic number used to identify and manage this EA's trades. Change it only if you run more than one instance of the EA on the same account, so each instance manages its own positions.
  • true = risk in %, false = fixed lots — chooses how position size is calculated. true = the size value below is treated as a percentage of account balance. false = the size value is treated as a fixed lot size.
  • risk in %, fixed lots — the actual size value used together with the setting above. If the option above is true, this is the risk in percent (e.g. 1 = 1%). If it is false, this is the fixed lot size (e.g. 0.10).
  • max daily drawdown (0 = off) — max daily drawdown protection in percent. If equity drops by this amount versus balance, the EA closes all of its positions and pauses trading until the next server day. Set to 0 to turn the protection off.

=== symbol names ===

  • audcad / eurgbp — the symbol names for the two traded pairs. Adjust these only if your broker uses suffixes or different names (e.g. AUDCAD.r, EURGBPm). They must match the exact symbol names in your Market Watch.

Important — how risk and martingale interact:

The risk percentage (or fixed lot) always applies to the first, initial position of a session only. When a strategy uses its limited martingale, the following grid positions can be multiplied on top of that initial size (up to a maximum of 3 martingale steps). This means the total exposure of a session can be larger than the initial risk you set. This is why it is recommended to keep risk at or below 1.5%.

For this reason, the EA is not recommended for prop-firm accounts with a strict per-trade or per-position stop-loss / loss limit. The martingale layering and grid drawdown behaviour do not fit hard, fixed loss caps, and a session can move against you before the recovery logic resolves it. The EA is intended for standard live or personal accounts where you control the deposit and can sit through grid drawdown.

Important:

Trading involves risk. Past performance and backtest results do not guarantee future returns. Use a deposit you can afford and test on a demo account before going live.
