Hello, my name is Atsushi Katayama. I am an FX trader and MetaTrader 5 EA developer based in Japan.
I created this blog to share practical information about automated trading, EA development, backtesting and the differences that can appear between broker environments.
My Approach to EA Development
I do not consider an attractive backtest to be final proof that an EA is ready for live trading.
The same EA can produce different results depending on historical data, spread, commission, broker server time, symbol specifications, execution speed and slippage. These differences can become especially noticeable when testing XAUUSD or strategies that operate on shorter timeframes.
When I evaluate a trading strategy, I look beyond total net profit. I also check:
• Profit factor
• Maximum drawdown
• Number of trades
• Yearly and monthly consistency
• Losing periods
• Sensitivity to spread
• Recent market performance
• Forward-test behavior
• Differences between brokers
A strong result over one selected period is not enough. I want to understand how the strategy behaves during trends, ranges and periods of sudden volatility.
Markets and Tools
EURUSD has been one of my main markets for trading and strategy testing. I also develop and test systems for XAUUSD, where volatility creates opportunities but also requires careful risk control.
Some of my EAs use multiple independent strategies rather than depending on only one entry pattern. I also develop practical MT5 indicators that help traders understand important price levels and market conditions more clearly.
What I Will Share Here
In this blog, I plan to write about:
• EA development and testing
• Practical use of the MT5 Strategy Tester
• Backtest interpretation
• Broker and historical-data differences
• Lot size and risk settings
• Forward-testing observations
• Explanations of my EAs and indicators
• Practical MT5 tools and free indicators
I will keep the posts shorter and more practical than a general trading article. My goal is to provide information that MT5 users can actually use when evaluating, testing or configuring an EA.
No Guaranteed Results
I do not believe in guaranteed-profit claims.
Every automated trading system has losing trades and difficult market periods. Backtest results cannot guarantee future performance, and live results can differ because of changing market and broker conditions.
Before using any EA on a live account, traders should run their own backtest, check the drawdown, confirm the symbol specifications and observe the EA on a demo account.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
In my next posts, I will introduce some of my current EA and indicator projects and explain what traders should check before testing them.
Risk Notice
The information published in this blog is for educational and informational purposes only. It is not investment advice or a guarantee of future performance. Trading Forex and XAUUSD involves a risk of financial loss.
