Download the set files

Twelve ready-made set files for Goldvane EA are attached at the bottom of this post: seven by account balance and five by risk profile. Pick the one that matches your account, load it into the EA, and you are ready to start on a demo account.

Quick answer: not sure which to use? Choose Goldvane_Any_Balance_Risk1Percent.set. It risks 1% of your balance per trade and adjusts the lot size automatically as your account grows or shrinks.

You only need one set file and one XAUUSD H1 chart. Loading a set file replaces your current EA settings.

Which set file should I use?

Match the file to your account balance. Each fixed-money file keeps the risk at roughly 0.5 to 1% of the balance per trade.

Goldvane_Balance_100000plus_Risk1000.set

Goldvane_Any_Balance_Risk1Percent.set

Risk 1% of balance per trade

Fixed-money files keep the same risk on every trade, so update the file when your balance moves into a new range. The 1% file does this for you automatically.

Risk profile set files

These five files use the built-in risk profiles. Risk is a percentage of your balance, so the lot size grows and shrinks with the account.

Risk per trade is a range because different trade setups carry different risk inside the same profile. Very High is the aggressive option: expect deeper drawdowns and larger single losses. Start with Low or Average if you are new to the EA.

Small accounts: read this first

On accounts under about 5,000 USD, the EA trades the smallest lot your broker allows (usually 0.01), whatever setting you choose. A 0.01 lot trade on gold can lose roughly 11 to 53 USD when it hits its Stop Loss, depending on the setup.

On a 500 USD account, that is about 2 to 10% risk per trade. The EA works on small accounts, but the risk is clearly higher than on larger ones. Recommended minimum balance: 5,000 USD. If you start smaller, use the fixed-lot file and only trade money you can afford to lose.

How to load a set file

  1. Download the set file you chose from the attachments at the bottom of this post.
  2. Copy it to the Presets folder. In MetaTrader 5, click File → Open Data Folder, then open MQL5 → Presets and paste the file there.
  3. Open an XAUUSD chart and set it to H1.
  4. Attach Goldvane EA to the chart from the Navigator window.
  5. Load the settings. In the EA window, open the Inputs tab, click Load and select your set file.
  6. Allow algo trading on the Common tab and click OK.
  7. Check the dashboard. The Risk Mode line should show the setting you loaded, for example FIXED 100.00 USD or 1.00% PER TRADE.

Settings to check after loading

The set files cover money management. A few other inputs depend on your broker and your preferences:

  • Broker clock. Goldvane expects server time GMT+2 in winter and GMT+3 in summer, which most MT5 brokers use. If your broker is different, set "Use custom broker GMT offset" to true and enter its winter and summer offsets.
  • Daily loss protection. This is off in every set file, the same as in the published backtests. Turn it on if you want the EA to stop opening new trades after a bad day.
  • Magic number. The default is 718300, and the EA also uses the next four numbers (718301 to 718304). If you run other EAs on the same account, make sure none of them uses this range.
  • Weekend exit. Off by default. You can have the EA delete pending orders or close all trades before the weekend.
  • Max lot size. 0 means no limit. Set a value if you want a hard cap on any single trade.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to open several charts? No. One XAUUSD H1 chart is enough. The EA reads the other timeframes it needs by itself.

My broker calls gold XAUUSD+, GOLD or XAUUSDm. Does it work? Yes. Attach the EA to your broker's gold symbol, whatever its name.

Can I use a netting account? A hedging account is recommended. The EA can hold a buy and a sell at the same time, which a netting account would combine into one position.

Does a set file guarantee the backtest results? No. A set file only loads settings. Results depend on your broker's spread, execution and server time, and on future market conditions.

How do I switch to another set file? Open the EA settings on the chart (F7), go to Inputs, click Load and choose the new file. Changes apply to new trades; open trades keep their Stop Loss and Take Profit.

Support

Need help choosing a set file? Send me a private message on MQL5 or write in the product's Comments tab. Please include your broker name, gold symbol name, account type (hedging or netting), account balance, the set file you loaded and any messages from the Experts or Journal tab.

Risk warning: Trading gold with leverage carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for every investor. Past performance, including backtests, does not guarantee future results. Test every set file on a demo account first, and only trade with money you can afford to lose.
