Auscadia — Documentation
Version 1.0 · AUDCAD · MetaTrader 5 · Hedging account required
Auscadia is an automated trading system for the AUDCAD currency pair. It opens positions when price shows a statistical overextension and manages them as a basket towards a fixed profit target. If the market keeps moving first, the system works with additional positions and a built-in recovery mechanism until the basket closes in profit.
The recovery system is not a simple grid that blindly adds a position once a point distance is reached. The price distance is only one of several conditions: market signal, timing and environment must match as well — only when all factors line up at the same time is the position opened. If one is missing, the system waits, even if the price level was reached long ago.
Risk: A system of this kind holds positions through extended counter-moves. This creates floating drawdown that is only reduced once price reverts. Trade only with capital you can afford to lose. Past results are no guarantee of future performance.
1. Requirements
| Symbol | AUDCAD — on any other symbol the EA will not start |
| Account | Hedging account. |
| Platform | MetaTrader 5 |
| Operation | Continuous operation recommended (VPS), so baskets are managed at all times |
| Chart timeframe | Any — behaviour is identical on every timeframe |
2. Quick start
Drag Auscadia onto an AUDCAD chart, allow automated trading and confirm with OK. The default settings are ready to use. One line appears in the journal ("Experts" tab):
Auscadia 1.0 | AUDCAD | hedging | ready
The EA then checks the economic calendar once and reports the result. There is no further output in normal operation — the EA works quietly.
3. Settings
VERSION INFO
Three display fields without function: version, build date, last change.
GENERAL
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Magic number | 4711 | Identifier of the EA's own positions. Change it only if several EAs run on the same account |
| EA comment | Auscadia | Comment text on every order |
| Allowed trade direction | Both Buy and Sell | Restrict the trade direction: buys only or sells only |
| Allow both sides (hedging) | true | Whether a buy basket and a sell basket may exist at the same time. With false the opposite side waits until the running basket has closed |
LOT SIZING
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Lot calculation mode | Automatic | How the position size is determined |
| Automatic risk level | Medium (0.01/3000) | Risk tier for the automatic mode, from Very Low (0.01 per 5000) to Very High (0.01 per 1000) |
| Lot per balance (0.01 per X) | 3000 | Only in "Lot per balance" mode: 0.01 lot per X of account currency |
| Fixed lot size | 0.01 | Only in "Fixed lot" mode |
| Auto convert balance to USD | true | Converts the balance to USD for the tiers. If no conversion pair is available, the raw balance is used and noted once in the journal |
The position size is set when a basket opens and stays constant for that basket.
TAKE PROFIT
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Take profit (points) | 100 | Profit target of the basket, in points above the volume-weighted entry |
In addition, the EA writes a real take-profit order on every position as a backstop, placed slightly beyond the basket target. Normally the EA closes the basket itself; the order takes over if the EA is unreachable.
EA PROTECTION (this EA only)
The protection maths looks exclusively at this EA's positions — its own starting balance, its own closed trades, its own floating result. Foreign positions on the account do not count and are never touched.
The drawdown stop ships switched off. On smaller accounts, the normal floating drawdown of an open basket can amount to a large share of the EA's own equity, and the stop would then trigger during ordinary operation rather than in an emergency.
Recommendation: on accounts below 2,000 USD, leave everything in this group switched off. Above 2,000 USD, configure the stop to match your account size and money management — there is no single correct value. As a rule of thumb, the default limit of 30% fits the default position sizing of 0.01 lot per 3,000 USD (risk level "Medium"). The more aggressively you size relative to the balance, the more room routine drawdowns need.
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Enable EA drawdown stop (manual restart via panel) | false | Stops the EA permanently once its own curve falls too far below its peak. Released only with the panel button Start EA — which is why the EA refuses to start if this stop is on while the panel is off |
| Max EA drawdown % below the EA equity peak | 30.0 | The limit in percent |
| On stop also close EA trades (else stop-out risk) | false | With false , only new positions are stopped — open ones keep running and can keep building losses. With true , everything is closed when the stop triggers |
NEWS FILTER
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| NFP Friday: pause trading (no baskets, no adds) | true | On the first Friday of the month (US labour-market data) trading pauses for the whole day. Open baskets are still managed and can close — they just do not grow |
| Enable news filter (live only) | true | Pauses around high-impact AUD, CAD and USD events. Works in live operation only — the Strategy Tester does not provide the economic calendar; the EA detects this and says so in the journal |
| Pause X min BEFORE news | 60 | Lead time in minutes |
| Pause X min AFTER news | 60 | Follow-up time in minutes |
TRADING DAYS
Seven switches, Sunday to Saturday, all on by default. On disabled days nothing new is opened; open baskets are still managed.
PANEL SETTINGS
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Show panel (off = empty chart, no buttons) | false | Shows the control panel on the chart. Off = empty chart, no buttons |
| Panel corner (at start) | Top Left | Starting corner |
| Margin to chart corner (px) | 12 | Distance to the chart corner |
DIAGNOSTICS
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Extended logging | false | Additional diagnostic lines in the journal, intended for support cases. Not needed in normal operation |
4. The panel
With Show panel = true the control panel appears on the chart. It can be dragged freely, moved to the next corner with the arrow, and collapsed to its header with the minus.
Displays: server time · today's result in account currency and pips · EA drawdown in percent and account currency · session and current spread · lot mode and news-filter status · weekday bar · the next news events. With the news filter active, the blackout windows are also drawn as zones on the chart, as is the mark where the next position would open.
Buttons:
| Button | Effect |
|---|---|
| Pause Buy / Pause Sell | No new positions on that side; open ones remain and are still managed |
| Close Buy / Close Sell | Closes all of the EA's positions on that side immediately |
| Close All & Stop EA | Closes everything of its own and halts the EA. The button turns red and reads Start EA |
| Start EA | Resumes trading. After a drawdown stop it releases the halt without touching any position |
Warning states are reported on a dedicated panel line, for example when the EA is currently holding back new entries or the drawdown stop has triggered. Every button press is logged in the journal.
5. Behaviour in the Strategy Tester
The news filter stays passive in the tester because MetaTrader does not provide the economic calendar there; the EA notes this once in the journal. Pop-up warnings (alerts) are not shown by the tester, but the matching journal line still appears. The panel buttons respond in live operation only. For test runs, the delivery state with the panel switched off is recommended.
6. If the EA does not start
The EA refuses to start with a clear journal line whenever a requirement is missing: wrong symbol, unusable symbol data, netting instead of hedging account, or drawdown stop enabled while the panel is off.
7. If nothing is being opened right now
In normal operation this is not an error. The EA holds back new entries by design: for a short pause after a basket close, for the whole day on NFP Friday, inside news windows, on disabled weekdays, on elevated spread, after extreme price moves, and as long as no valid signal is present. Open baskets are managed throughout.
8. Limits and notes
Auscadia is built and validated for AUDCAD; running it on other symbols is prevented by the start guard. The EA manages only positions carrying its own magic number. Several instances on the same account are possible with different magic numbers. There is no profit guarantee; the built-in protections limit risks but do not remove them.
