OVERVIEW
Flyer XAUUSD is an automated trend-following Expert Advisor built specifically for trading Gold (XAUUSD) on MetaTrader 5. The EA is designed to run unattended and can open several trades in the same direction within onesignal cycle, up to limits you configure.
KEY FEATURES
- Long-term trend EMA filter (adjustable period): price must be on the correct side of this EMA before a trade in that direction is allowed
- Configurable higher-timeframe trend filter (D1, H4, H1, or any timeframe you choose) to confirm the broader market direction

- Broker-safe order execution: automatically adjusts to each broker's minimum volume step, checks available margin before opening a position, verifies the trading session is open, and respects each broker's minimum stop distance before sending an order
- Unique magic number, safe to run alongside other Expert Advisors (including the developer's other products) on the same account
HOW IT WORKS
1. Within the current cycle, a trade in a given direction requires: the higher-timeframe trend filter (configurable, default H1) to agree with that direction, and price to be on the correct side of the long-term trend EMA.
2. Several internal filters must also agree before a signal is considered valid, to reduce reaction to weak or noisy price action.
3. Once confirmed, the EA opens a position sized by your configured lot size, with stop loss and take profit levels set automatically.
4. Additional trades in the same direction can be opened within the same cycle, up to your Max Trades Per Cycle limit, and the total number of open positions is always capped by Max Concurrent Trades.
RECOMMENDED SETTINGS
- Symbol: XAUUSD (Gold) — this EA is built and tuned specifically for this symbol; tested over 19.5 months (01/2025 - 08/2026)
- Timeframe: the EA trades on a fixed internal timeframe regardless of the chart timeframe you attach it to; the Filter Timeframe input lets you choose the higher-timeframe trend filter separately
- Account size: this EA uses a fixed lot size, so drawdown in dollar terms does not scale down with a smaller account. Use a balance comfortably larger than the maximum drawdown reported in BACKTESTRESULTS to reduce the risk of a margin call during a losing streak
- Account type: works on both hedging accounts
- Recommended: a broker with tight spreads and reliable execution
- Test on a demo account first and review the Strategy Tester report before moving to a live account
INPUT PARAMETERS
- Lots: fixed trade volume for every order
- EMA Period: period of the long-term trend EMA; price must be on the correct side of this EMA for a trade in that direction to be allowed
- Lookback Candles: number of recent candles checked for trend confirmation before entry
- Magic Number: identifier used to separate this EA's trades from otherEAs or manual trades on the same account
- Max Concurrent Trades: maximum number of open trades at any time
- Max Trades Per Cycle: maximum number of trades opened per signal cycle
- Filter Timeframe: the higher timeframe used to confirm the broader market trend before entry (e.g. H1, H4, D1)
IMPORTANT NOTES
This strategy has a low win rate (around 30%) and profitability depends on winning trades being significantly larger than losing trades over a large number of trades. Long losing streaks are a normal part of this strategy's behavior: up to 255 consecutive losing trades were observed in backtesting, with an average losing streak of around 34 trades.
Drawdown can also be significant in dollar terms — since this EA uses a fixed lot size, the dollar-value drawdown does not shrink just because your account is larger; a larger account only reduces the drawdown as a percentage of your balance. This is a higher risk profile than a typical conservative EA; make sure you are comfortable with this behavior and size your account well above the drawdown levels reported below before using real funds. BACKTEST RESULTS
Tested on XAUUSD from 01/01/2025 to 01/09/2026 (about 19.5 months), every tick based on real ticks (100% history quality), fixed lot 0.01, starting deposit 10,000 USD:
- Total net profit: 49,378.01 USD
- Profit factor: 1.26
- Total trades: 10,764 (win rate 29.59%)
- Average winning trade: 74.42 USD / Average losing trade: -24.70 USD
- Maximum balance drawdown: 9,575.49 USD (14.54%) / Maximum equity drawdown: 10,293.66 USD (15.49%)
- Maximum consecutive losing trades: 255 (average losing streak: 34)
- Recovery factor: 4.80 / Sharpe ratio: 2.22
Because this EA trades a fixed lot size, the dollar-value drawdown above is the more reliable risk indicator than the percentage figures, which scale with whatever starting deposit is used. Use an account balance comfortably larger than the maximum drawdown observed above to reduce the risk of a margin call during a losing streak. See the attached
