TradingView Style Stochastic RSI for MT5
Overview
Stochastic RSI is a custom technical indicator for MetaTrader 5 that combines the Relative Strength Index (RSI) with the Stochastic oscillator calculation to help traders analyze market momentum.
Instead of applying the Stochastic calculation directly to price, Stochastic RSI applies it to RSI values. This makes the indicator responsive to changes in RSI momentum and helps traders examine where the current RSI sits relative to its recent range.
Designed with a clean, TradingView-style presentation, this indicator displays two smoothed lines in a separate chart window, making it easy to monitor momentum fluctuations without cluttering the main price chart.
Whether you trade Forex, cryptocurrencies, indices, commodities, or other supported instruments, Stochastic RSI provides a configurable oscillator for technical analysis across different chart timeframes.
Key Features
1. TradingView-Style Stochastic RSI
Analyze momentum using the Stochastic transformation of RSI values, followed by configurable smoothing of the %K and %D lines.
2. Dual-Line Oscillator
The indicator displays two lines:
- %K Line – Light Sea Green: The faster line, calculated by smoothing the Stochastic RSI values.
- %D Line – Red: The signal line, calculated by smoothing the %K line.
Observing how these lines move and interact can help traders study changes in momentum.
3. Overbought and Oversold Reference Levels
Three horizontal reference levels are included by default:
- 80 – Upper Reference Level: Commonly used to identify potentially overbought oscillator conditions.
- 50 – Midpoint Level: Provides a reference for evaluating the oscillator's position within its range.
- 20 – Lower Reference Level: Commonly used to identify potentially oversold oscillator conditions.
These levels provide visual reference points for studying momentum conditions. They do not independently confirm a market reversal.
4. Fully Configurable Calculation Periods
Adjust the indicator's main parameters to suit your preferred analysis style:
- RSI Period
- Stochastic Period
- %K Smoothing
- %D Smoothing
Experiment with different combinations to evaluate how the oscillator responds to changing market conditions.
5. Separate Indicator Window
Stochastic RSI is displayed in its own chart window, keeping the price chart clear while allowing you to monitor oscillator behavior.
6. Flexible Market Analysis
Use the indicator to study momentum changes, oscillator line crossovers, and potential reversal conditions alongside price action or other technical analysis tools.
Important Information
Stochastic RSI is a technical analysis indicator, not an automated trading system.
It does not execute trades, generate dedicated Buy/Sell arrows, or provide built-in trading alerts.
The indicator is intended to support discretionary technical analysis. Trading decisions should account for market conditions, confirmation from other analytical methods where appropriate, and suitable risk management.
No indicator can guarantee profitable trading results.

- Adjustable %D smoothing period.
- Simple Moving Average smoothing for both oscillator lines.
- Suitable for momentum analysis across different symbols and chart timeframes.
- No additional third-party indicators required.
How It Works
1. RSI Calculation
The indicator calculates RSI from closing prices using the selected RSI period.
2. Stochastic Normalization
The current RSI value is normalized against the highest and lowest RSI values observed during the selected Stochastic period.
3. %K Calculation
A Simple Moving Average smooths the resulting Stochastic RSI values to produce the %K line.
4. %D Calculation
A second Simple Moving Average smooths the %K line to produce the %D line.
5. Oscillator Interpretation
The indicator displays both lines alongside reference levels at 20, 50, and 80. Traders can use these levels and the relationship between the two lines to study momentum and potential changes in market direction.
These are possible analytical applications, not guaranteed trading signals. Oscillator readings can remain at extreme levels during strong trends, and crossovers may occur frequently in sideways markets.
