Copy trades between MT4 and MT5 with full control over volume, risk, and execution
Managing the same trading activity across multiple terminals should not require you to repeat every opening, reduction, closure, or protection change manually.
LocalTradeCopier connects MetaTrader terminals installed on the same computer and supports trade copying in every direction:
- MetaTrader 4 → MetaTrader 4
- MetaTrader 4 → MetaTrader 5
- MetaTrader 5 → MetaTrader 4
- MetaTrader 5 → MetaTrader 5
Any terminal can operate as the Sender or Receiver. You can also connect one Sender to multiple Receivers, including a combination of MT4 and MT5 terminals within the same channel.
Each receiving account applies its own volume calculation, risk limits, direction, symbol mappings, and management rules. The trade is copied, while the exposure is adapted to the conditions of each account.
What is LocalTradeCopier?
LocalTradeCopier is a local position copier for MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, designed for traders working with multiple accounts, terminals, brokers, or strategies on the same computer.
One instance operates as the Sender and publishes the market positions of the source account. One or more Receiver instances read that state and reproduce only the trades that pass their symbol, risk, and execution rules.
The Sender and Receiver do not need to use the same platform. You can publish from MT4 and receive on MT5, or publish from MT5 and receive on MT4.
Communication takes place through MetaTrader’s Common Files folder, without relying on an external service to transport trades.
LocalTradeCopier does not generate signals or decide when to enter the market. Its purpose is to reproduce existing trading activity in an organized, configurable, and verifiable way.
The product works exclusively with market positions. Pending orders are not published or copied.
Two-way copying between MT4 and MT5
LocalTradeCopier uses a shared protocol that allows the MT4 and MT5 editions to exchange position information.
This supports several configurations:
MT4 as Sender and MT5 as Receiver
Positions opened in the MT4 account are published locally and reproduced in the MT5 account according to the Receiver’s settings.
MT5 as Sender and MT4 as Receiver
Positions from the MT5 account are transferred to MT4, with volume, symbols, and protection levels adapted to the destination broker.
MT4 or MT5 with multiple Receivers
A single Sender can supply several receiving accounts. Each Receiver can run on MT4 or MT5 and use an independent risk configuration.
Multiple independent copying groups
Channels and logical instances allow you to separate different strategies or groups of accounts on the same computer.
To establish a connection, the Sender and its Receivers must use the same channel name. Each terminal must have the corresponding edition of LocalTradeCopier installed.
Adapting the different MT4 and MT5 position models
MT4 and MT5 do not always represent trades in the same way. LocalTradeCopier maintains persistent identifiers to connect every source position with its destination position.
On MT4, the system follows ticket continuity when a partial reduction creates a new ticket reference.
On MT5, it works with position identifiers and their execution history.
When the destination uses a netting account, LocalTradeCopier applies conservative rules to avoid combining a copied position with another existing position on the same symbol. On hedging accounts, positions can be managed independently.
If the relationship between the source, destination, and broker history cannot be verified safely, the affected trade is paused instead of acting on an assumption.
One source account, independent rules for every Receiver
Copying the same lot size to every account is not always appropriate. Different balances, equity levels, contract sizes, and broker conditions can turn the same trade into very different levels of exposure.
Each Receiver can use its own configuration:
- Volume calculation method.
- Risk limits.
- Normal or reverse direction.
- Symbol mappings.
- Stop Loss and Take Profit copying.
- Rules for local intervention.
- Spread, price deviation, and signal age limits.
- Maximum number of positions.
- Maximum total volume.
For example, a 1-lot position published from MT4 can use a different volume on every MT4 or MT5 Receiver according to its balance, equity, configured risk, and symbol specifications.
Copy openings, reductions, and closures
When the Sender publishes a new authorized position, the Receiver can open the corresponding destination position.
If the source volume is reduced, LocalTradeCopier calculates the remaining target volume and proportionally reduces the copied position. Once the source closure is confirmed, the corresponding Receiver position is closed.
Later volume increases on an already published position do not automatically increase the copied volume. The system follows the initial volume and subsequent reductions without adding exposure implicitly.
You can also decide how to handle positions that were already open when the Receiver connected:
- Ignore them and begin with new trades only.
- Copy them if they pass every validation.
Nine volume calculation modes
Every Receiver can use one of the following methods:
- Same lot as the source.
- Fixed lot.
- Source lot multiplier.
- Balance proportional.
- Equity proportional.
- Same risk percentage as the source.
- Fixed risk percentage of balance.
- Fixed risk percentage of equity.
- Fixed monetary risk in the account currency.
Risk-based modes use the actual distance to the Stop Loss and the specifications of the destination symbol.
If risk cannot be calculated reliably, you can block the opening or use a predefined fallback lot.
The final volume is adjusted to the broker’s minimum, maximum, and volume step. You can also choose nearest, downward, or upward rounding and define a maximum lot size per trade.
Risk limits before every opening
LocalTradeCopier can block new entries when any of the following limits is reached:
- Maximum number of copied positions.
- Maximum total volume.
- Maximum lot per trade.
- Maximum monetary risk per trade.
- Maximum total risk as a money amount.
- Maximum total risk as a percentage of equity.
- Maximum drawdown from the recorded equity peak.
- Maximum spread.
- Maximum deviation from the source entry price.
- Maximum signal age.
- Insufficient free margin.
- Closed market or non-tradable symbol.
These controls block new openings but do not prevent reductions or closures of existing positions. A risk restriction does not block an action intended to reduce exposure.
The equity peak used for the drawdown calculation is persisted and can be reset manually from the panel.
NORMAL or REVERSE direction
Each Receiver can use an independent direction:
- NORMAL: BUY is copied as BUY, and SELL as SELL.
- REVERSE: BUY becomes SELL, and SELL becomes BUY.
In REVERSE mode, protection levels are also transformed consistently: the source Stop Loss becomes the target of the opposite position, while the source Take Profit becomes its protection.
The direction is frozen when each trade begins, preventing a later setting change from unexpectedly altering positions already under management.
Stop Loss and Take Profit copying
You can control the following options independently:
- Copy Stop Loss.
- Copy Take Profit.
- Synchronize later changes.
- Remove levels when they are removed on the source.
LocalTradeCopier provides two protection methods:
- Exact price: uses the same price levels as the source.
- Keep distance: preserves the distance between the entry and protection level while adapting it to the destination entry price.
Keep Distance can be particularly useful when the prices or symbol specifications are not identical between the MT4 and MT5 brokers.
Before opening or modifying a position, the system checks the destination broker’s minimum stop distance and freeze levels.
If a configured protection level cannot be applied correctly, the opening can wait instead of creating an unintentionally unprotected position.
Choose how local interventions are handled
If the user or broker changes the SL/TP of a copied position, you can choose:
- Respect local change: keep the local levels.
- Restore target: restore the levels derived from the Sender.
- Pause trade: pause that trade and request manual review.
If a copied position is closed locally while its source remains open, you can select:
- Safe no reopen: respect the closure and never reopen.
- Strict mirror: attempt to restore the position, subject to a reopening limit and cooldown.
- Pause and alert: pause the trade and display an alert.
This allows you to choose between local flexibility, strict replication, and manual supervision.
Detailed filters for controlling what is copied
The Sender can select which trades are published using combinable filters:
- Manual trades.
- Trades opened by Expert Advisors.
- BUY positions.
- SELL positions.
- Included Magic Numbers.
- Excluded Magic Numbers.
- Included symbols.
- Excluded symbols.
- Required comment fragments.
- Excluded comment fragments.
Exclusions take priority over inclusions.
Filters are evaluated when a position is first detected. A position that has already been published continues to be managed until it closes, even if the filter settings are changed later.
This allows an account to run several strategies while publishing only a specific selection to its MT4 or MT5 Receivers.
Safe symbol mapping between different brokers
The Sender and Receiver can use different platforms and brokers. Symbol names and specifications may therefore be different.
LocalTradeCopier compares the source symbols with those available on the Receiver and can resolve them through:
- Exact name matching.
- Automatic prefix or suffix detection.
- Manual SOURCE=DESTINATION mappings.
Every mapping displays its type, confidence level, and explanation.
If several candidates exist, confidence is below the configured minimum, or the contract size differs significantly, the symbol remains blocked or under review.
A trade is never opened on a symbol without a mapping considered safe.
Dry Run mode
Dry Run allows you to validate the configuration without sending real orders.
The system performs its normal reconciliation and displays the actions it would take:
- WOULD OPEN
- WOULD CLOSE
- WOULD REDUCE
- WOULD MODIFY
You can use it to verify MT4/MT5 communication, channels, filters, mappings, direction, volume calculations, and risk limits before enabling execution.
Pause without abandoning exposure reduction
The Receiver can be paused directly from the panel.
While paused:
- No new positions are opened.
- Stop Loss and Take Profit are not updated.
- Source closures and volume reductions continue to be followed.
This lets you stop new actions and protection modifications without disabling processes intended to reduce exposure.
Conservative handling of ambiguous broker responses
LocalTradeCopier records its state before sending a trading request.
If the broker response is uncertain, the system searches for the position using tags and broker identifiers before allowing another attempt. It does not immediately resend an order whose result cannot yet be determined.
If several possible matches exist or ownership cannot be proven, the trade is paused for manual review.
Partial fills are confirmed using the volume actually executed. The discrepancy remains visible and the position is paused instead of blindly adding the missing volume.
You can also configure:
- Maximum execution attempts.
- Retry window.
- Cooldown between attempts.
- Allowed slippage.
Persistent reconciliation and recovery
LocalTradeCopier continuously compares:
- The state published by the Sender.
- The state saved in its journals.
- The positions that actually exist at the broker.
It uses permanent identities, sessions, sequences, heartbeats, checksums, instance locks, and backup files.
After restarting an MT4 or MT5 terminal, it can rebuild the context of managed trades. If it detects an incompatible state, a different Sender identity, or insufficient information, it blocks or pauses any action that cannot be considered safe.
This approach is designed to reduce the risk of duplicate actions and prevent destructive decisions based on incomplete information.
Only confirmed owned positions are managed
Before modifying or closing a position, LocalTradeCopier requires a persisted and validated relationship based on:
- Position identifier.
- Magic Number.
- Symbol.
- Direction.
- Instance tag.
- Corresponding journal record.
Manual positions, trades belonging to other Expert Advisors, positions from other LocalTradeCopier instances, and trades without reliable attribution are not modified.
On netting accounts, the Receiver blocks a new copy when the symbol already contains a position that cannot be attributed exclusively to that Receiver.
Controlled emergency close
The panel allows you to close all copied positions whose ownership has been confirmed.
Before executing the action, LocalTradeCopier:
- Displays the number of positions.
- Displays the total volume.
- Excludes unrelated trades.
- Requests two confirmations.
- Respects Dry Run mode.
- Records the request before sending it to the broker.
Integrated control panel
The interface follows the same operational approach on MT4 and MT5 and is organized into seven sections.
Overview
Connection state, role, channel, instance, direction, synchronized trades, verified mappings, open volume, open risk, and primary actions.
Trades
A detailed table of published and copied trades, including symbols, direction, source volume, target volume, actual volume, ticket, lifecycle state, and the reason for any discrepancy.
Mappings
Source-to-destination symbol relationships, mapping type, confidence, compatibility details, and controls for adding or removing manual mappings.
Risk
Volume calculation modes, volume and risk limits, drawdown, direction, and Stop Loss/Take Profit settings.
Filters
Filters for manual or EA trades, direction, Magic Number, symbol, and comment.
Advanced
Local intervention policies, Receiver Magic Number, spread, deviation, slippage, signal age, retries, communication, mapping confidence, and maximum log size.
Diagnostics
Communication paths, journals, checksums, sequences, remote platform, identities, sessions, locks, unattributed positions, channel state, counters, recent events, and ambiguous situations.
The panel also includes:

Stopping the EA does not close its positions. The product preserves its journal and stops acting until it is started again.
Example configurations
Primary MT4 account and secondary MT5 account
Configure MT4 as the Sender and MT5 as the Receiver. The Receiver can adapt the volume to its equity and apply its own risk limits.
Automated MT5 strategy copied to MT4
Configure MT5 as the Sender and filter trades by Magic Number. The MT4 Receiver will copy only the selected strategy.
One Sender with mixed Receivers
One source account can supply several MT4 and MT5 accounts simultaneously. Every Receiver maintains its own independent configuration.
Brokers with different symbol names
The Sender can publish EURUSD while one Receiver uses EURUSD.r and another uses EURUSDm . Each destination maintains its own mapping.
Accounts of different sizes
One Receiver can use a fixed lot, another balance-proportional sizing, and another percentage risk, even though all of them receive the same source trade.
Validation before live execution
Enable Dry Run to verify communication and proposed actions between MT4 and MT5 before allowing real orders.
