Volume Breakout Zone EA
Overview
Volume Breakout Zone EA trades the break of a resistance zone that price has already tested several times, and it requires the break to be carried by abnormal volume. The idea is simple and old: a level that has held three times matters, and the break that finally clears it should show effort.
How it works
* Pivot highs are detected and grouped into a zone when they fall within an ATR-scaled tolerance of each other. A zone becomes tradable once it has accumulated a configurable minimum number of impacts.
* The breakout candle must show relative volume above a multiple of its own moving average, otherwise the break is ignored. This is the filter that separates a real break from a drift through a level.
* A trend filter on a long moving average allows entries only in the direction of the dominant move.
* The stop loss is placed below a second, shorter moving average with an ATR buffer, so the invalidation level follows the structure rather than a fixed distance.
* The take profit is a fixed reward-to-risk multiple. Optional break-even and pivot-based trailing are available and disabled by default.
* Long only. The strategy was measured on the long side and is shipped as it was measured.
* Optional account-protection guards: daily loss limit, ratcheting maximum loss limit, and a margin ceiling. All are inactive by default.
Risk management
Percentage of equity risked per trade, with an optional maximum lot and a maximum number of simultaneous positions.
Recommended use
Designed and tested on USDJPY M30. No hardcoded symbol. Hedging or netting accounts, any broker, no DLL.
Backtest results
MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, 100% real tick data, January 2016 to June 2026, USDJPY M30, initial deposit 10 000 USD, leverage 1:100: net profit 27 007 USD, profit factor 1.49, maximum balance drawdown 7.37%, 315 trades, 41.9% of trades profitable, average win 621 USD against average loss 301 USD.
