Smart Golden Portfolio is an XAUUSD Expert Advisor designed for traders who want a stable strategy that can remain part of a trading portfolio for the long term.
The core strategy was developed before 2025 as part of a much larger research process involving thousands of generated and tested strategies. From that pool, only a small number were selected for extended forward testing.
Over time, they were eliminated one by one.
Smart Golden Portfolio is the only strategy from that original group that ultimately survived for me and remained suitable for continued use.
The most important point is that the core trading logic has remained unchanged since its original development. The way the EA identifies market conditions, decides when to enter, and chooses BUY or SELL has not been redesigned or repeatedly optimized to fit recent Gold history.
There has been no continuous overfitting, no rebuilding of the strategy after losing periods, and no modification of the entry logic simply to improve historical results.
Trade Management Adapted to Modern Gold Volatility
The original strategy used a relatively simple fixed trade-management structure of approximately 2000-point Stop Loss and 4000-point Take Profit.
As Gold became more expensive and significantly more volatile, the strategy itself was not changed.
The only meaningful changes were made to the trade-management layer.
The Stop Loss was widened slightly, trailing management was added, and trailing now begins after approximately 5000 points of favorable movement. The Take Profit is kept farther away so that a strong Gold move has room to continue instead of being closed too early.
The objective was not to change the character of the strategy, but to adapt position management to the larger price movements now commonly seen in XAUUSD.
Backtests still show a practical risk-to-reward profile broadly similar to the original structure.
Going forward, this is also the type of adjustment considered reasonable when market conditions change: adapting SL, TP and trailing distances when necessary while leaving the actual trade-selection logic untouched.
Backtest Behavior Close to Real Trading
One of the main reasons this strategy continued to be used is the similarity between its historical tests and its real trading behavior.
The trades seen in backtesting are generally very close to the trades produced under real market conditions.
Smart Golden Portfolio does not depend on extremely precise breakout timing, rapid pending-order execution or ultra-short scalping. Because of this, differences in spread, slippage, broker execution and account type are generally less critical than with many execution-sensitive Gold EAs.
This makes the backtest useful not only as an optimization tool, but as a realistic representation of how the strategy behaves.

Plug & Play for Gold
The default configuration is designed to be used directly on Gold without any external set file.
It can be attached to:
- XAUUSD
- XAUUSD symbols with broker prefixes or suffixes
- Standard accounts
- Raw / ECN accounts
- Cent accounts
- Different Gold quote formats
Minimum advised starting balance is 300 USD.
The trading style is not especially spread-sensitive, so the wider spreads commonly found on cent accounts are generally not a major problem.
For standard use, most traders only need to select an appropriate lot size or Risk % for their account.
The default strategy timeframe is M30. The EA uses the timeframe selected inside its own input settings, so attaching it to a different chart timeframe does not accidentally change the strategy.
No set file is required for the standard XAUUSD configuration.
Flexible for Advanced Users
The default settings represent the standard configuration, but advanced users can experiment with:
- Different strategy timeframes
- Different SL / TP settings
- Different trailing settings
- Trailing disabled
- BUY only
- SELL only
- BUY and SELL
- Maximum one or two positions
- Alternative money-management settings
Users may also experiment with other instruments, although XAUUSD remains the intended standard market.
Gold has historically been a long-term appreciating asset, so some users may choose to test the EA in BUY-only mode. Users can also enable the optional second position.
In historical testing, combinations such as BUY-only trading with a second position may produce a different balance between profitability and drawdown. These are optional configurations; the default setup remains a neutral BUY-and-SELL strategy.
Different from Many Gold EAs
This EA does not use grid, martingale, averaging or any recovery system.
It is not a breakout-dependent strategy and it is not a scalping system.
There is no continuous overfitting and no manipulation of backtests.
No external set files are required for the standard configuration.
Every position is opened with defined risk management.
The EA is also not forced to remain in a trade until either Stop Loss or Take Profit is reached. Its internal exit logic can close a position earlier when market conditions change.
Portfolio and Funded Account Use
Smart Golden Portfolio is not designed as a lottery-style EA intended to turn a very small account into an extremely large account as quickly as possible.
Its purpose is different.
It is designed to be the type of strategy that can have a place inside a long-term trading portfolio, contributing an independent XAUUSD approach alongside other systems.
A funded account can also be considered a trading portfolio. For prop firms that allow Expert Advisors, Smart Golden Portfolio has a structure that fits comfortably with many common trading rules because it does not rely on grid, martingale, recovery baskets, ultra-short trades or high-frequency execution.
