Smart Session Breakout MT4 — Precision Range Accumulation & Volatility Expansion Signals
Markets spend part of the day building a range and part of the day leaving it. This indicator draws the range of a session you choose, keeps its high and low on the chart as levels, and marks the bars that close outside it.
That is the whole scope. It is a way of seeing session structure, not a trading system, and it does not tell you when to buy or sell.
What it does:
- Draws the high and low of your chosen session as a box, and carries those two levels forward as lines
- Marks bars that open inside the range and close outside it, up or down
- Filters marginal breaks: the breakout candle's body must reach a configurable multiple of ATR, so a bar that drifts a fraction of a pip past the level is not treated like one that leaves decisively
- Ignores ranges too tight or too wide to be meaningful, by pip limits you set
- Warns when price comes within a set distance of either edge — before the break rather than after it
- On-chart panel with the session phase, the range height and both levels, live distance to each edge, spread, ATR and a countdown to the bar close
- Optional range midline
Signals do not repaint:
With "Confirm Signal on Bar Close" enabled — the default — a bar is only judged once it has closed. An arrow that has appeared will not move or disappear on a later tick, and what you see on history is what would have been shown live.
The setting can be switched off if you prefer to watch potential breakouts form in real time. In that mode the current bar is evaluated on every tick and its arrow can appear and vanish before the bar closes. The panel states which mode is active, in green or orange, so there is never any doubt about what you are looking at.
Sessions:
Start and end are entered as HH:MM in your broker's server time, not your local time. Check the server clock in the terminal before setting them — a broker three hours from your assumption will place the range in the wrong part of the day.
Sessions that cross midnight are supported: a 22:00 to 08:00 window is handled the same way as an 08:00 to 16:00 one.
Common starting points, to adjust to your own server:
- Asian range: 00:00 to 08:00
- London range: 08:00 to 12:00
- New York range: 13:00 to 17:00
The session needs several bars inside it to describe anything, so M5 to M30 is the sensible span. On a timeframe too high for the session — a daily chart, where the whole window falls inside one candle — the panel says so rather than leaving you looking at an empty chart.

Volatility filter:
- Enable ATR Expansion Filter
- ATR Period, default 14
- Min Breakout Body vs ATR Ratio, default 0.8
Approach warning:
- Warn When Price Nears a Range Edge, default on
- Distance From Edge to Warn, default 5 pips
Visual:
- Range midline, box colour and fill, panel corner and colours
Alerts:
- Popup, sound, email and push
Limitations:
- This is an indicator, not a strategy. It marks structure and flags breaks. It does not place, modify or close trades, and it offers no entry, exit or position sizing guidance.
- A marked breakout is not a prediction. Ranges break in both directions and false breaks are a normal feature of the behaviour, which the ATR filter reduces rather than removes.
- Session times are broker server time. Set them against your own server.
- Levels come from the most recently completed session, so during a session you are looking at the previous one.
