Welcome to Exodos XAU!
Exodos XAU trades one idea on gold: when XAUUSD breaks out of its 20-day range, the move tends to continue for a few hours. The EA enters on the break and exits as soon as the hourly trend turns against the position.
The edge comes from the entry itself: after a 20-day breakout, price moved further in the breakout direction on average, separately in 2015–2020 and 2021–2026, compared with entries on random days. The exits hold that move for a few hours instead of scalping small ticks, so results depend less on spread and execution speed.
No grid, no martingale, no averaging down. Every trade has a stop loss.
Key Features:
- Enters on a break of the 20-day high or low, once per direction per day
- Exits when the H1 Dow structure turns against the trade (maximum 4 hours)
- Moves the stop into profit once the trade has moved 0.30 × ATR
- Skips shorts during long-term uptrends (200-day SMA filter)
- One position at a time, stop loss on every trade
- Trades: About 50 per year
- Holding time: Up to 4 hours (median about 3 hours)
Entry: buy when price breaks above the highest high of the last 20 completed days; sell when it breaks below the lowest low.
Filter: no shorts while the previous close is above the 200-day SMA. Longs are always allowed.
Stop loss: 0.25 × daily ATR.
Exit (first of): the H1 higher-low / lower-high structure turns against the position; the stop moves to entry + 0.05 × ATR once profit reaches 0.30 × ATR; 4 hours pass; Friday close.
Backtesting:
Test on XAUUSD with the default settings, using "Every tick based on real ticks" where available.
Our test (MT5 Strategy Tester, broker XMTrading (symbol GOLD), XAUUSD, 2015.01–2026.09, 0.01 lot, $10,000, model: every tick based on real ticks, default settings):
- Net profit: +$826.79
- Trades: 563
- Profit factor: 1.75
- Recovery factor: 10.13
- Max equity drawdown: 0.75%
- Win rate: 44.58%
- Average win / loss: +$7.66 / −$3.52
- Years positive: 11 of 12 (2016 negative)
Good to know:
- Low-frequency by design: about 50 trades a year, focused on clear breakouts only.
- Like any trend strategy, it has quiet periods. Run it for the long term rather than judging it on a few weeks.
Setup:
Attach the EA to one XAUUSD chart (any timeframe). Recommended balance: $1,000 per 0.01 lot. Account: Hedging or netting. Low-spread account and VPS recommended.
Parameters:
- Lots / RiskPercent – fixed lot, or lot sized so a stop-out loses this % of balance
- SL_ATR – stop loss in daily ATR
- TrendExit – exit when the H1 trend turns against the position
- Lock_Trigger_ATR / Lock_Offset_ATR – move the stop into profit
- MaxHoldHours – maximum holding time
- RegimeGate – skip shorts in a long-term uptrend
- ServerGMT – broker server GMT offset
- MaxSpreadPoints, Magic, OrderComment – general settings
IMPORTANT:
Check the server GMT offset input. The default is correct for brokers whose server time is GMT+2 in winter and GMT+3 in US summer time (most brokers). For other brokers, set it manually, or the trading times will be shifted.
