Small wins, collected relentlessly
Most grid systems have the same weak spot: they open a lot of orders, and then they wait for the market to come all the way back. Grid Penny Collector EA refuses to wait. It treats every small bounce as a chance to bank a few cents, and it uses each of those bounces to take a piece out of the oldest and heaviest order on the chart. Pennies, collected over and over, add up to a smaller drawdown and a more comfortable account.
It is a complete trading machine in one file. A signal decides when a cycle may start, a grid builds the positions, and a clever closer keeps trimming the book. Behind them sits an optional hedge cycle that can add trading volume on a separate symbol without leaving any open exposure behind.
What is inside
- The opener - one grid, or two independent grids (a BUY grid and a SELL grid) running side by side. Each has its own level counter, its own spacing and its own lot ladder. Lots can climb by multiplication or by a fixed step, for example 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and so on.
- The closer - instead of waiting for one old order to turn green, it looks at combinations of the oldest and the newest orders and closes the group the moment the total clears your profit target. When the whole oldest order is out of reach, it buys back just a slice of it, a partial close, so the drawdown falls on every bounce.
- The hedge cycle (optional) - opens a perfectly balanced pair on a symbol you nominate and retires it in equal slices, paid for by a small surcharge added to closures the closer already makes.
- The signal - a classic momentum oscillator, tuned for fast reactions, decides when a new cycle is allowed to start and in which direction.
- Verification - every closure is checked against the deal history. The EA never trusts a return code alone.
Version 3.10: new interface, new safety
- A fresh evening-navy theme with a sky-blue grid card, easy on the eyes during long sessions.
- Everything on the left - the grid card sits on top and the order tables below it, so the right side of the chart, where price is being made, stays completely free.
- Adjustable panel - position, font size, number of rows shown per grid, an optional second line of text and optional on-chart marks for the plan and the levels.
- Fixes - safer handling of closed markets (the EA waits for the session instead of halting), automatic resume after a pause, plans that are cancelled if the order book changes between scan and send, and a repair routine for a hedge leg that goes missing.
Getting started in five minutes
- Open a chart of a liquid symbol and attach the EA. Gold, major forex pairs and indices are natural homes for a grid.
- Begin with the default settings and the smallest lot. They are chosen to be gentle.
- Leave the run mode on Armed to trade, or switch it to Scan only to watch what the EA would do without it sending anything.
- Watch the panel. The grid cards show the open levels, and the closer reports each closure it makes.
- Run the free Strategy Tester first, then try a demo account, then go live when you are comfortable with the behaviour.
Every input, explained
Grid - how levels are opened
- Trade mode - single grid (one direction at a time) or dual grid (independent BUY and SELL grids).
- Grid space between levels, points - the base distance between two levels when fixed spacing is used.
- Spacing multiplier per level - 1.0 keeps every step equal; higher values widen the steps as the grid grows deeper.
- Maximum levels per grid - the highest number of levels one grid may reach.
- An up move arms the BUY side - sets which direction counts as the BUY side; switch it to reverse the relationship.
- Magic number for the grid orders - the identity of the grid orders. Use a unique one per chart.
- Comment written on the grid orders - the label you will see on each order.
- At most one new level per bar - prevents a fast spike from stacking several levels in one candle.
Lot ladder
- Starting lot - the size of the first level.
- Lot sizing mode - multiply (each level is the previous one times a factor) or additive (a fixed step is added each level).
- Multiply mode: lot x this each level - the factor used in multiply mode.
- Additive mode: step added per level - the lot added at each level; 0 means the starting lot is used as the step.
- Maximum lot for any single order - a hard ceiling on the size of one order.
- Scale the lot with the account balance - lets the starting lot grow as your balance grows.
- Reference balance for the starting lot - the balance at which the starting lot applies as written.
- Allow scaling down below the starting lot - if the balance falls, the lot may shrink below the starting lot as well.
ATR spacing
- Spacing mode - fixed points, or ATR which adapts the step to current volatility.
- ATR timeframe - the timeframe used to measure volatility; current chart by default.
- ATR period - how many bars the volatility reading looks back over.
- Spacing = ATR x this - converts the volatility reading into a grid step.
- ATR bar shift - 1 means the last closed bar, so the reading never jumps on a forming candle.
- ATR spacing floor and ceiling, points - the smallest and largest step allowed; 0 switches the limit off.
- Freeze the ATR spacing for the whole cycle - keeps the step constant once a cycle begins.
Profit target
- Desired profit per closure - the money each closure must earn after costs.
- Final profit multiplier (1.00 - 2.00) - a last adjustment applied on top of the target.
- Profit target mode - fixed money per closure, or scaled with lots and depth.
- Scaled: volume exponent - how strongly the target follows the closing volume (0 off, 1 proportional).
- Scaled: extra target per extra open level - a bonus for deeper grids.
- Scaled: ceiling as a multiple of the base - the target can never exceed this multiple; 0 means no limit.
- Scaled: safety cap as a fraction of one grid step - keeps the target within realistic reach of price.
Fragment scanner
- Scan multi-order combinations - lets the closer test groups of orders before the plain pair.
- Max first (oldest) orders / Max latest (newest) orders in one closure - limits how big a group may be.
- How to rank qualifying combinations - clear the most orders, bank the most money, or free the most margin.
- A combo must also clear the plain pair target - a group is never accepted if it earns less than the simple pair would.
- Latest volume must exceed first volume and Minimum closing/target volume ratio - guarantee the newer orders are big enough to pay for the older one.
Target slicing - partial closes
- Buy a slice of the oldest order - enables partial closing when the whole lot is out of reach.
- Profit weight per closing lot - how the required profit grows with the size of the closing lots.
- Smallest slice as a percent of the target - prevents tiny, pointless slices.
- Let several latest orders club together - allows more than one order to pay for a slice.
- Always take a full closure over a slice - when both qualify, the complete closure wins.
Reopen guard
- Stop a closure that would immediately reopen a level - off, safe distance, or strict.
- Safe distance as a fraction of one grid step - how much room the guard demands.
Account protection
- Block new levels under this margin level percent - 0 switches it off.
- Block new levels over this floating loss percent of balance - 0 switches it off.
- Absolute cap on grid orders per side - a final limit on the order count.
Execution and verification
- Run mode - scan only (nothing is opened or closed) or armed (trades for real).
- Leg send order - oldest leg first, or the winning leg first to free margin sooner.
- Maximum slippage, points and Block trading above this spread, points - execution quality filters.
- Minimum seconds between two closures per side - keeps closures from firing back to back.
- Send attempts per leg and Keep verifying a stuck leg for N seconds - how persistent the EA is when the server is slow.
- Market closed means wait for the session and Retry a leg only every N seconds - calm behaviour over weekends and gaps.
- Clear a halt automatically after N seconds - the EA resumes by itself; 0 waits for you on the panel.
- Abort the plan if a leg changed between scan and send - safety against stale plans.
- Count commission for both sides and Commission per lot fallback - make the profit target honest; 0 reads real commission from history.
- Comment written on the closing deals - the label on closures.
Hedge cycle - the IB volume engine
- Enable the hedge cycle - off by default.
- Symbols to hedge on - a comma separated list; repeat a symbol to give it more turns.
- How to pick the next cycle symbol - never rotate, next in the list, or random.
- Strategy Tester only: cap the rotation to N symbols - keeps tests fast; 0 means no cap.
- Lots on each side of the perfect hedge and Lots retired from each side per slice - the size of the pair and of each retirement step.
- Trader bonus on top of the slice cost and Bonus is a percent of the slice cost - the surcharge added to closures, as a percent or flat money.
- Hard cap in money on one surcharge and Safety: max percent the hedge may raise any closure target - two limits that keep the surcharge reasonable.
- Magic for the hedge legs - must differ from the grid magic.
- Open a fresh cycle when one finishes and Wait for the grid to open something before the first cycle - control the rhythm of cycles.
- Re-verify both legs every N seconds, Repair a naked leg automatically and What to do about a naked leg (re-hedge, close the orphan, or halt) - the integrity system.
- Block hedge orders above this spread, Maximum slippage on hedge orders, Send attempts per hedge leg, Keep verifying a stuck hedge leg, Commission per lot fallback for the hedge and Comment written on the hedge deals - execution details for the hedge.
Weekly cash day
- Open no new cycle and fire no slice over the withdrawal window - for traders who withdraw on a fixed day.
- Banking day (0 Sunday, 1 Monday and so on) and Server hour after which no new slice is fired - define the window.
Panel and chart
- Show the panel, Panel X / Y offset, Base font size - basic layout.
- Show the Arabic line under the English - an optional second text line.
- Draw the plan and the levels on the chart - on-chart marks.
- Max order rows shown per grid - how long the tables are.
Entry trigger and signal
- What arms the first level - the strategy only, distance only, or both together.
- Signal bar - 1 means the last closed bar, so nothing repaints.
- A signal stays valid for N bars - how long a signal may wait for its grid to start.
- Let the strategy arm BUY / SELL cycles - allow one direction or both.
- Invert the strategy direction - flips every signal.
- %K period, %D period, Slowing, MA method, Line read - the speed and smoothness of the oscillator that drives the signal.
- Oversold level and Overbought level - the two zones the oscillator is judged against.
- Verbose logging - detailed messages in the Experts journal.
Who it suits
Traders who like the steady rhythm of a grid but dislike carrying a huge old order for weeks. Everything is adjustable, the defaults are conservative, and the free Strategy Tester run lets you see the whole behaviour before you commit. Remember that grid trading carries risk, so use a lot size your account can comfortably support.
