Trend Sonar — Adaptive Trend Indicator with Multi-Timeframe Confirmation for MetaTrader 4

Overview

Trend Sonar is a MetaTrader 4 indicator that combines an adaptive trend line, an ATR-based volatility channel, and a multi-timeframe confirmation panel in a single tool. The line speeds up or slows down on its own depending on how efficiently price is actually moving — so it lags less in trends and stays quieter in ranging markets.

The indicator is non-repainting: values on closed bars are final and never change after the bar forms.

How It Works

  1. Adaptive smoothing. The indicator measures price "movement efficiency" over InpPeriod — the ratio of net directional movement to total price path. Higher efficiency speeds up the line's reaction; lower efficiency increases smoothing.
  2. Volatility channel. The channel width around the adaptive line is calculated from ATR ( InpATRPeriod , InpVolatilityFactor ) and automatically adjusts to the instrument's current volatility.
  3. Slope filter. The adaptive line's slope angle is calculated in degrees and compared against the InpSlopeThreshold . Signals are generated only when the slope confirms a sufficiently pronounced move.
  4. Multi-timeframe confirmation. The indicator checks trend direction on two higher timeframes ( InpConfirmTF1 , InpConfirmTF2 , defaulting to H4 and D1) and displays this on the info panel.
  5. On-chart panel. A compact panel shows the current trend direction and confirmation status on the higher timeframes — no need to switch charts manually.
  6. Alerts. Optional on-screen alerts and push notifications when a new confirmed signal appears.

Usage Recommendations

  • Tune InpPeriod and InpVolatilityFactor to the volatility of the specific instrument.
  • Use the multi-timeframe confirmation panel as a filter, not as a standalone signal.
  • Test the indicator's behavior on history and on a demo account before live trading.
