Pitbull Gold on prop firms and shared accounts: how to size your exposure
Pitbull Gold works well on an account with limits and on an account shared with other EAs. This guide shows how to set the exposure in both cases.
Prop firms: a fixed lot and the daily limit
Most prop firms work with a 5% maximum daily loss and a 10% maximum overall loss, measured on the challenge's starting balance. Because those limits are fixed in dollars, the simplest approach is a fixed lot: what a trade costs at its stop stays constant instead of growing with the balance.
The math we use: on the worst day in the backtests, with a fixed lot, Pitbull lost about 70 USD per 0.01 lot with gold at about 4,230 USD an ounce. That gives:
| Account | Fixed lot | On the worst day in the backtests | Daily limit (5%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 USD | 0.02 | about 140 USD | 250 USD |
| 10,000 USD | 0.05 | about 350 USD | 500 USD |
| 25,000 USD | 0.14 | about 980 USD | 1,250 USD |
| 50,000 USD | 0.28 | about 1,960 USD | 2,500 USD |
| 100,000 USD | 0.57 | about 3,990 USD | 5,000 USD |
| 200,000 USD | 1.14 | about 7,980 USD | 10,000 USD |
Want more headroom? Use a smaller lot than the table: the cost drops in the same proportion.
How to set it up:
- Lot mode: Fixed lot size. Fixed lot size: the lot from the table.
- Max lot per trade: the same lot, as a safety cap.
- Daily loss limit: "Close open trades and pause for the rest of the day", at 4.5%. It adds what Pitbull has already lost that day to what is open, closes everything a little before the limit, and only comes back the next day.
- Short Friday: 21, if your firm doesn't allow positions over the weekend. From 21:00 on Friday (GMT+2/+3), Pitbull opens nothing new and takes its pending orders off the server.
- Pause new trades around high-impact US news: on. It takes the pending orders off the server from 30 minutes before to 30 minutes after each high-impact US release, which is when a stop slips the most. In the backtests from 2021 to 2026, the worst day on Conservative drops from -8.5% to -5.0%.
Before you start, check your firm's rules: some don't allow EAs or hedging, and many give lower leverage on gold. Pitbull needs a hedging account.
Sharing the account with other EAs
- Automatic lot calculated on: A fixed amount. Use Pitbull's slice of the account as the fixed amount. For example, on a 20,000 USD account split between four EAs, 5,000 USD for Pitbull.
- Magic number: give the other EAs on the account magic numbers that already differ from Pitbull's in the first four digits.
- Panel: the drawdown on the panel is Pitbull's, not the whole account's.
- Daily loss limit: it also counts Pitbull's trades only. Losses from the other EAs don't trigger it.
Keep in mind that margin belongs to the whole account. At 1:100 or higher, Pitbull trades the same on any profile; if free margin runs short, it cuts the lot to fit.
