Same Product, Two Platforms: MT4 Gets About Half the Free Downloads and One in Eight of the Paid Demos

We publish most products twice, once for MT5 and once for MT4, with the same logic and the same description. That gives a clean comparison nobody outside the seller account can run: the same product, the same seller, two platforms. Counts are from our daily Market log as of October 8, 2026.
Free products: 10 pairs
Product | MT5 downloads | MT4 downloads
Volatility Squeeze | 798 | 256
Donchian Trend Engine (EA) | 395 | 260
Dip Buyer Zones | 373 | 209
MTF Trend Dashboard | 364 | 234
Pivot Trend ZigZag | 304 | 123
Donchian ATR Trailing Stop | 247 | 159
Aegis | 87 | 21
Crypto Trend Channel | 86 | 49
Spread Guard | 70 | 40
Falcon | 64 | 35
Total | 2,788 | 1,386
MT4 took 1,386 of 4,174 downloads, 33.2%. Put the other way, every MT4 version got roughly half of what its MT5 twin got (1,386 / 2,788 = 0.50). MT4 did not win a single pair. The closest was the free EA: 260 against 395.
Paid EAs: 8 pairs, demo downloads
EA | MT5 demo downloads | MT4 demo downloads
Gold King Breakout Grid | 26 | 4
Bitcoin Comet Trend Follower | 24 | 4
Nasdaq Dip Buyer | 22 | 3
Monthly Burst USDJPY | 16 | 1
Megamax Donchian Trend | 15 | 4
Ethereum Trend Follower | 13 | 2

Overdrive Usdjpy Aggressive | 12 | 1
Total | 141 | 19
Here MT4 took 19 of 160, 11.9%. So the MT4 share falls from a third on free tools to about one in eight on paid EA demos. Two of our paid pairs are left out of this table because we are not quoting figures for those products at the moment.
Two things that weaken the comparison
- Listing dates differ. The MT4 versions of Falcon and Aegis first appear in our log on August 2, later than their MT5 versions, and we did not correct for days listed anywhere in these tables. Some of the gap is simply time.
- These are our products and our descriptions. A seller with an MT4-first audience would see something else.
The rank numbers are not comparable across platforms
This surprised us. The MT5 Donchian Trend Engine has 395 downloads and shows rank 1,725. The MT4 version has fewer downloads, 260, and shows rank 522. Volatility Squeeze: 798 downloads and rank 929 on MT5, 256 downloads and rank 437 on MT4. A product with a third of the downloads carries a number twice as good.
The same shows on the paid side: our paid EAs with no purchases sit around rank 31,000 on MT5 and around 24,100 on MT4. The two platforms appear to be ranked as separate lists of different lengths. We infer that from our own numbers; it is not documented anywhere we have read.
What we take from it
- If you compare two products by rank, check they are on the same platform first. Rank 500 on MT4 and rank 500 on MT5 are not the same achievement.
- For sellers: the MT4 port of a free tool is worth the work (half the downloads again). For a paid EA the demo interest we measured on MT4 was small, and one of our 9 purchases was an MT4 version.
